Kendal mint cake dilemma

I need the wisdom of Mumsnet...

My husband bought me Kendal mint cake as one of my birthday presents. He's got a bee in his bonnet that I should try Kendal mint cake because I used to live in Kendal. I don't really see what that's got to do with anything. It's supposed to be rank and it's not like he's bought me the chocolate variety.

So what should I do? Give in and try the KMC? Or be irritating and refuse? I promise to bow to your wisdom...

On the random occasions that it's crossed my path I really liked it and I've never even had the chocolate variety.

ceebeegeebies · 26/06/2012 21:07

I love Kendal Mint Cake - it is like eating pure mint-flavoured sugar so what is not to like? In fact, covering it in chocolate actually ruins it Grin

Now has he bought you the white or brown version?

EAT, EAT, EAT

It's quite nice - try it Grin

Get it down you, mint's good for your digestion and the sugar will give you the energy to climb a fell, do some extreme TV watching or tackle the ironing, as you see fit.

jammic · 26/06/2012 21:11

He says its white. It's in a blue packet. He's sitting here cheering...

It is nice, but the chocolate coated one is better!

AWomanCalledHorse · 26/06/2012 21:12

If you don't like it, I'll have it.

ceebeegeebies · 26/06/2012 21:13

Oh, I do prefer the brown one but the white one is still yummy..go on, eat it and report back Smile

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 26/06/2012 21:13

Try it, but only a tiny bit as it is revolting in case you dont like it. My DH loves the stuff, I think it tastes like the crusty bits at the top of the toothpaste tube...

WandaDoff · 26/06/2012 21:14

I love Kendal mint cake

Trills · 26/06/2012 21:14

Who said it was "supposed to be rank"? Confused

Would you really not try a commonly known foodstuff because someone once told you it wasn't very nice?

Are you four years old?

Smell it. If it smells OK, taste it. If you like the taste, eat it.

jammic · 26/06/2012 21:19

Ok, Trills fair point. I'm normally pretty adventurous with food. I guess I've just never really seen the point if I'm not up a mountain and chocolate is readily available. Mmm... Chocolate...

Send it to meeeeee, I love it!

Heavensmells · 26/06/2012 21:21

I also have never eaten KMC.

You need to try it so you can tell me what it tastes like.

Trills · 26/06/2012 21:23

It tastes of sugar and mint. Don't be scared. Try it. Then get him some unusual "local" foodstuff from his hometown for his birthday.

OddBoots · 26/06/2012 21:25

I've not had it since childhood but from memory it is like peppermint creams.

Bluestocking · 26/06/2012 21:25

Oh, don't be such a baby! It's delicious - as several posters have pointed out, it's just sugar and mint. The brown version is slightly nicer but you can move on to that once you've learned to love the white version.

FrillyMilly · 26/06/2012 21:26

Just eat it!

I agree that you should make your husband eat food local to where he is from.

Eat it! Eat it! Eat it!

fivegomadindorset · 26/06/2012 21:28

So eat it and let us know.

jammic · 26/06/2012 21:28

Ok I've found it. You do realise this has been an ongoing 'discussion' since we met 8 years ago. I can't believe I'm about to lose!

Liking the idea about the random foodstuffs from his area though. If anyone knows of anything suitable from Cambridgeshire...

Oooh I like peppermint creams. Ok I'm more interested now.

Reaching for the packet...
