MAssive just watched your 24, that's fab! Grin

PassTheChocolateTwiglets · 19/04/2011 09:30

Ah, love that song - 'twas always known at the Beeb (and maybe elsewhere?) as "I've Thrown A Custard In Her Face"...

TheEasterBunnysSmallFootPrint · 19/04/2011 10:42

What song Twigs?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 19/04/2011 10:54

Morning all! You may take my place on the chaise longoo, Small, but you will never take my place in Mr Thornton's affections.

::Finally lost it emoticon::

. I guess it is a very Radio 2 kind of song. I love it.
SupermassiveEasterBonnet · 19/04/2011 11:23

Hello, folks! Maud, I was too sleepy last night to say how chuffed-making it was that you picked up my sly allusion to what Twiggy calls the custard pie song,

What a joy you all are.

I have some RL to deal with, I fear -- a trip to the coster-mongers to mong some costers, and other horrors, but like General Macarthur, I shall return.

This is a message for Spiro. Please get well soon. I need you to rescue me.

I'm so glad that Spiro is well enough to get to Butlins. Yippee indeed!

Massive - I am chuffed that you are chuffed. As you know, if it's a reference to a song from a Hollywood Musicale, there's a pretty good chance that I'll get it, but anything after about 1990 is a Blur (or do I mean an Oasis, geddit?) to me. Small is my Muse (geddit) for all modern musical offerings. Twiggy really is much too young to be au fair with the oeuvre of Rex Harrison, but I guess all that time learning at the Beeb has paid off!

Interesting etymological question: is it you who mongs the costers or is it the costermonger?

::Goes to consult the Department of English and Applied Linguistics::

ComeIntoTheEasterGardenMaud · 19/04/2011 13:00

And ::guffaw:: at Twiggy's adventures in rope-nibbling.

PassTheChocolateTwiglets · 19/04/2011 14:01

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY for Spiro!!! Woohoo!!!

Bless you for thinking that a child of the 60s is young, Maud :) My musical knowledge stops at about 1987. I have heard of these Modern Bands but I have no idea what it is they sing. Occasionally I will hear a song and the DJ will say "and that was.... by... " and I go "oh so that's who they are!!! The Kings Of Leon is a perfect example of this. I knew they existed, I know who've been to seen them live and I know they're jolly popular but I until a week ago I couldn't have named you one single song of theirs. But then I heard 'Sex On Fire' which I've loved for ages (not knowing what it was called so unable to Google it( and I suddenly found out it was KoL!

Massive, that Bayeux Tapestry thing was so clever! Now what did they say about the Tapestry on QI recently? It was one of those "NO WAY!!! REALLY?!" things which I am amazed at for about 12 seconds before I forget it.

PassTheChocolateTwiglets · 19/04/2011 14:11

Gisborne Twiglets!

Twigletski

Thornton's Easter Twiglets

SupermassiveEasterBonnet · 19/04/2011 14:45

Back. Either having mongered or watched others mongering, I am unclear as to which is correct usage, Maud, being an iggerunt ex-pat and all.

Three cheers for Spiro, so pleased you are up and about and raring to go. And so must JP be too, with rescue at hand. Does he realise you are going to insist on your reward in advance?

What a tasty twiglet selection, though as would be expected the Russian contribution is subversive and an incitement to riot.

As for music, well I reckon if you wait long enough, the next generation will discover the delights of the music of one's youth, and they will all be transformed into Classics, such as .

LadyVenetia · 19/04/2011 16:38

Ooh I've been away for a while - has Spiro been poorly - glad that seems to be ok now.

How's things?

PassTheChocolateTwiglets · 19/04/2011 16:52

Yes, La Famille Spiro were supposed to go to Butlins yesterday but poor Spiro was ill so just Miss and Mr Spiro went. But she is better today so has gone off to join them, hurrah!

How are you, LadyV? Small and I have been listening to you the last few days :) I had a bath this morning with Damerel perched on the bathroom cabinet - it was lovely :o He is just so..... delicious.

Well The Twiglet household has decided on an impromptu BBQ (by which I mean that DrTwiglets is slaving away over the BBQ whilst I am already on the rose cooking my world-famous BBQ sauce. We've had a really rubbish year few days with the kids (yesterday was particularly shocking and saw me drag MissTwiglets forcibly out of the dentists waiting room, I've never been so embarrassed). So last night we had a Big Talk about everything and we have made a Family Pact of things that we are all doing to try and do better. And as Dr Twigs is on leave today we just decided that a BBQ might be a good start to our new attempt at Happy Families. Well, that and the midday drinking might help :o

PassTheChocolateTwiglets · 19/04/2011 16:56

Sorry just realised that was a bit deep for our usual nonsense discussions, and probably not what anybody wants to hear! Let's lighten the mood a little... BBQ at Twigs' house! This way, form an orderly queue for the sausages please...

TheEasterBunnysSmallFootPrint · 19/04/2011 17:35

Afternoon all.

Twigs we have had lots of 'moments' like that with Smallboy Major, I think it is their age but Mr Small and I often find ourselves sitting of an evening wndering what we are doing wrong. The answer is nothing, we are generally good parents and believe in good manners in children but they are sent to try us push the boundaries as part of growing up. Good luck with the new plan though.

Lol at your rope and twiglet nibbling btw! Grin

Sprio, so glad you got to Butlins-enjoy!

PassTheChocolateTwiglets · 19/04/2011 17:58

I am having a momentary panic. Does my new MN name sound rude?! It does, doesn't it?! Sounds like a euphemism for.... well, at the best it sounds like poo, at the worst it sounds like something else altogether.

ComeIntoTheEasterGardenMaud · 19/04/2011 18:14

::Is relieved that Spiro isn't here to respond to the invitation to form an orderly queue for the sausage::

::Is too old and yet also too naive to know what the even ruder than poo meaning would be. (Please don't tell me, by the way)::

Was there any particular reason you were thinking of , Twigster?

ComeIntoTheEasterGardenMaud · 19/04/2011 18:21

Oh, and I think children just can be unspeakable at times. It's not bad parenting, it's just that they're not yet fully formed as human beings, like wot Rousseau said, I think. There's not much one can do except keep slogging away at trying to instill good manners, empathy and so on. And Polish cordial does help, too.

LadyVenetia · 19/04/2011 19:36

They can also be angels with other people and devils with their own parents...I figure that even If I'm telling them off I do it politely and I hope that they will pick up good manners from me (or hubby) rather than just losing my rag.

DumSpiroSpero · 19/04/2011 20:00

OMG! I am being forced to watch live wrestling...

...maybe I should have waited & joined them tomorrow!

Remember, Spiro, I went to Butlins when it had been taken over by a million Brownies. Nothing would surprise me!

DumSpiroSpero · 19/04/2011 20:28

DD is now standing on a chair shouting and gesticulating wildly at the 'bad' guy - clearly there is no denying her East End ancestry Grin!
