Help! Where's the defibrillator?

SupermassiveLBD · 11/03/2011 22:21

I do miss that program, when I get back here, and all the cheesy phone-ins, on the local stations.

Nothing local like that here and I haven't got a radio that gets the World Service.

Mind you, the audio books are a great alternative.

I do admire your meticulous research, looking for the right comtemporary song etc. I have read stories set in castles that have master bedrooms...That reminds me, I must do one about the sheriff's jacuzzi one day.

Ah, La Streisand - can't beat her for love songs really - would love to see her live but don't suppose that'll ever happen.

I remember buying my mum a tape of hers for Mothers Day a couple of months before splitting up from my first serious boyfriend. I listened to it on a loop while I was being a teenage drama queen full of 18 year old angst, and all of it broke my heart at the time, especially [ this one]]

is a lovely duet of hers with Bryan Adams. If you haven't seen the film I'd really recommend it.

Thanks ladies, I really enjoyed those.

Maud, hello! YT wouldn't let me see your vid, the mean things. I have just snivelled disustingly at the Daniel Bedingfield one, so that makes it two for the price of one -- a Love Song that Makes You Cry.

Was there a glimpse of cravat in that Striesand/Adams vid?

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/03/2011 22:52

Hiya. Massive. My vid was La Belle Dame Streisand singing The Way We Were, accompanied by stills from the film.

::starts to sob all over again::

Confession time. I didn't open the Bryan Adams one because, well, because of Bryan Adams. I still bear the scars of Everything I Do, I Do It For Yeeeeeewwwww. Whereas, of course, if we want a song with a Robin Hood connection, . And if we want cravats, there is this magnificent specimen.

And so to bed.

SupermassiveLBD · 11/03/2011 23:02

ah indeed, The Way we Were.

Ooooh, Mach the Knife, one of my faves, cos of the Boots. That Gisborne is a handsome devil, and no mistake. If a tad obsessed by pointy objects.

Goodnight, then, Maud and hoping tomorrow is a good day for you. And everyone else of course.

I have to agree about true cravat quality. but it's nice to see others, just because they remind you of the Cravatmeister.

DumSpiroSpero · 11/03/2011 23:03

Oh, Maud - you don't know what you're missing (but then I am a big fan of Mr Adams!), although I must admit I didn't register any cravats, but then I was more listening to than watching.

The film (The Mirror has Two Faces) is brilliant.

SupermassiveLBD · 11/03/2011 23:20

I rather liked ''Everything I do'' But then I am a sentimental fool.

It was only a nanosecond of cravat, Spiro, I might even have been mistaken but I'm too lazy to go back and look again.

DumSpiroSpero · 11/03/2011 23:37

I am back to NMG. I could have carried on all afternoon if RL hadn't so rudely intervened. In the end I resorted to writing in long-hand while I was cooking the dinner, so have just been typing it up (PITA!)

SupermassiveLBD · 11/03/2011 23:45

Oh, lovely Spiro, I am looking forward to the next chapter. I hope your dinner went unscathed what with you being a little distracted and all . I nearly burned mine yet again.

I bet Willy Wigglestick never had these problems when he was writing Macbeth, or the like.

Don't know if you're still about Massive, but have just uploaded Chapter 6.

Dinner was just reheating something and adding cous cous so not too challenging Grin!

Night night!

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 00:07

Night, Spiro, was just about to call it a day, so will comment tomorrow.
Great, a lovely bedtime story.

Night all

Morning. So I was woken at 4.30 by DS2 and decamped to the spare room only to be woken again at 6.30. I am tired.

Spiro, I am really enjoying the story - keep going!

DumSpiroSpero · 12/03/2011 08:58

Hi Small - sounds like you're having fun at the mo Hmm. DD was up at 5.30 today but that's quite normal for her and she will occupy herself in her room until 7 or so I can go back to bed for a bit. The only thing is that once she does get up she literally does not stop talking until bedtime - I cannot even think in whole sentences while she's awake - don't know if that's just a girl thing? Confused

Will you be able to have 40 winks later? I do love an afternoon nap on the rare occasions I get the chance.

We had the kitchen done last year and I cunningly moved the cereals andm bowls to low level cupboards so she could get her own brekkie, but unfortunately the novelty of that has long since worn off so I get hauled out of bed to make toast!

Well it's chores and helping with homework for me this morning. Then I'm off into town for a potter and a massage later (had a voucher for my birthday 6 months ago!). H is out tonight - may have a friend round but if not I might knock out another chapter - glad you're enjoying it Smile.

PassTheTwiglets · 12/03/2011 15:26

Spiro, I've just read Chapter 6 and it was fabulous - my favourite chapter yet. It literally brought tears to my eyes when John said "I wouldn't expect you to want to be with me like that... I know I'm not him". Poor, lovely John :( He is just the most wonderful character and I am falling in love with him all over again. I need to rewatch it now. And what in the name of arse is tupping, btw? :)

Dammit, I am dying to know what's inside that blue box :o

So I had a dReAm last night! I'm not sure if it was nice or not. It was partly to do with your story, Spiro! He was half John Standring and half The Man - he was with a woman in a partnership of conveniece but another woman was desperately in love with him (I think I was the latter but at times I was the former) and it was all about which one he was going to be with. At the same time there was a mystery going on - there was a secret house next door that he knew all about and he was involved in something msyterious and I was trying to find out what was going on. All very odd!

Dear me though, I feel rough today. Went out last night and got sooooo drunk that I actually threw up when I got home Blush I was so angry with myself (and so embarrassed!) as it was a teenagery thing to do! I'm sure that's why my dream was so all over the place. I was meant to go and pick up TwigBoy from my parents' house this morning but I wasn't up to driving so DrTwiglets had to do it and I laid in my bed with a thumping head, playing Angry Birds on my mobile to try and distract me from my misery :)

PassTheTwiglets · 12/03/2011 15:34

Oh and who was asking about love songs? is Our Song and was our first dance at our wedding.

My other favourite is which always makes me cry, followed by .

TheSmallPrint · 12/03/2011 16:49

Our wedding song was The Wannadies- You and Me song and also Love is The Tender Trap.

Twigs, I rarely drink anymore, certainly no more than a glass as I just can't cope with alcohol since having children and I can't stand being drunk or sick. Hope you are feeling better now. I imagine your dream was wine induced Grin

Spiro I can't sleep in the day, my head won't let me- unless I am ill. I am envious of those who can. Envy

DumSpiroSpero · 12/03/2011 17:10

Small I expect my underactive thyroid gland has something to do with it - that and the fact I'm more of a night person.

Twigs if it makes you feel any less Blush the last time I got hammered was at my BIL's the other week. I was so sick on the Saturday morning my body ached until the Wednesday - that'll teach me to mix red & white wine. How we made it to the V&A I'll never know.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my story - I really appreciate the feedback and am glad you seem to like it (although constructive criticism is also welcome!). As of this morning I have 5 more chapters to write, which I've started doing in my head but probably won't get down 'on paper' til Monday.

Hope everyone has a good Saturday night. I will probably pop in at some point but H is out and I have a friend coming over so it will no doubt depend how much RL Gizzy is consumed!

TTFN Grin

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 18:55

Hello ladies. I finally got a moment to myself so now I can say how good I thought Spiro's latest chatper is --the story just gets better and better. You have got their characters so right, and it's yummy to see the trust building between them. I know John isn't the type to spoil it and pounce too soon. The dialogue, the emotions, are all so real.

Funny how a strong sensitive type like this is the subject of so many women's fantasies. What luxury to have someone take the trouble to consider your feelings like that. Maybe it's because in so many relationships it's mostly the women that does all the emotional spade-work.

Men aren't even expected to be good at it. Which brings me back to one of the things that really puzzles me and I was puzzling about it again last night when we were listing our favourite love songs- how so much of the literature of love is written by men - poems, plays, songs, novels, etc.

So why are they such rubbish at this sensitivity in RL? Or is it just that they can't be arsed? I shall never understand it.

I really have to re-watch Sparkhouse so I can revel visually in sweet sensitive John again, while I look forward to further chapters from Spiro.
