Am I being made a fool of?

I have a friend of a friend staying with us for four nights. He is visiting the UK from Japan and it's his first time here and we are just putting him up for a little bit while he travels round. We have the space and don't mind having him and he is very polite and nice. But I am getting very pissed off feeding him. I am very happy for him to stay but I don't want it to cost me money to have him. He eats three meals a day with us, plus drinks, and hasn't contributed anything. Maybe it's my own fault for cooking for him the first night.

Come on the all, tell my what an idiot I am for hosting him.

Kendodd you should not have made assumptions, you should have been explicit with your expectations as soon as he arrived.

Strange expectations for you to have considering it is customary in almost all cultures to feed people who are staying at your house for short periods(unless they are paying tenants etc.). Hosts feed their guests, even if they don't know them.

He can't read your mind, either you tell him you don't want to feed him, or carry on feeding him and stop complaining.

How did you expect to put someone up for four nights without it costing you money?!?

I once had a couple stay with me and an ex DP- for THREE weeks after saying it would be just a couple of nights. I had never met one half of the couple. One night after the pub the bloke (we both knew him from college) accidentally tried to get into bed with us after going to the loo. AND they ate everything in the house.

In my experience the Japanese are VERY generous and are
excellent hosts... So he probably expects hospitality to be generous.
