Time for a new specialism, methinks!

Not half as glad as I was Small! Grin

Morning all.

Spiro - Let us know what you think of Gnomeo and Juliet. For us it's a half term choice between that and Yogi Bear. Think I'd prefer Yogi Bear, myself. The good thing about being a one child family is it's easy to rig the vote.

All members of the Garden family have names which could be abbreviated but never are. Anyone calling me by the usual abbreviation of my name is likely to end up with their head on a spike at the Tower of London.

::evil cackle::

Tea and toast on the common room sideboard for anyone who hasn't got round to having breakfast yet. And .

PassTheTwiglets · 19/02/2011 11:18

People always abbreviate my name, even people who I hardly know and I often wonder what image I give off that makes them do it. It doesn't bother me at all - in fact I quite like it - but it does make me wonder. Especially because it's not a name that is traditionally be shortened to make another, like saying Sue instead of Susan. My abbreviated version is like saying 'Chelle instead of Michelle - like a matey thing, you know? Most odd when it's someone you've only just been introduced to.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 19/02/2011 12:29

It doesn't, but neither am I willing to play eliminations until you guess! But let's just pretend it's Margaret (ahem). I was staggered the other day when someone I had never met before introduced me to other people as Maggie. Needless to say, her head is now on a spike at Tower Hill.

SupermassiveLBD · 19/02/2011 12:43

Hello folks. Still croaking but staying alive, ya know.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 19/02/2011 13:13

I know, Massive, it denies logic and reason. But isn't this whole thread about defiance of logic and reason?

Could you not persuade people to call you what your dad did (unless it's Snufflekins or something else that won't really wash outside the family)? Anyway, I'm glad to hear you're .

SupermassiveLBD · 19/02/2011 13:38

It's not quite as bad as Snufflekins, but so far no one will oblige me. Mostly I get references to a certain physical characteristic of mine -- you can guess which one.

Maybe I should try the head on spike gambit.

How funny, I tried to link to the 'staying alive' walk when I did my post but for some reason Google and YT had gone on strike at that moment. It's like that on the island at peak times

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 19/02/2011 13:56

Wot, your serene and ineffable beauty?

Heretical thought - the Man is about the age to have been called Darren or Wayne. For reasons heretofore discussed, it wouldn't have been the same, would it? And what if Mr Thornton had been called Eustace or Cecil?

:o

SupermassiveLBD · 19/02/2011 14:06

what if Mr Thornton had been called Eustace or Cecil?

Indeed. Quelle horreur. All those Johns might be confusing but one must be thankful for small mercies.

SupermassiveLBD · 19/02/2011 14:24

Perhaps it really was Darren, Twiggy, but he changed it.
I still can't stop thinking about that unfortunate Guy Gisborne chappie...
I mostly get nicknames, not always the same one, but none I would have chosen personally as all cast nasturtiums on what Maud was pleased to call my serene and ineffable beauty

PassTheTwiglets · 19/02/2011 14:26

Oops, I probably shouldn't have put my nickname here as it identifies me more than my acutal name does! Will ask for it to be deleted - ust explaining why my above post may suddenly be withdrawn :)

SupermassiveLBD · 19/02/2011 14:32

Out of interest, how does one do that, Twiggy? Might come in usefu; one day if ever I say more than I mean to under the influence of too much Chateau Gizzy!

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 19/02/2011 14:44

My name, being so short anyway doesn't have a shortened form. My bugbear is misspelling, because there are alternative spellings, but people don't ask what mine is, they just assume...

My maiden name was also very hard for some to spell, so put them together and I have had some very strange versions of my name.

The name Richard means "stern ruler" - I know that for a specific reason that probably only Twigs could guess. I think I read somewhere (don't know where) that he gets called Rich.

DumSpiroSpero · 19/02/2011 15:00

Thank God he doesn't get called Dick!

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 19/02/2011 15:03

As usual, Spiro spots the elephant in the room. Smile

Richard III is called Dickon, according to SIS, which isn't so bad.

DumSpiroSpero · 19/02/2011 15:19

Call a spade a spade that's me! Grin

Glad you're not feeling too rough Massive.

DH has just asked to use the memory card from my phone for his, as apparently after his phone's recent breakdown his doesn't have all the setup info he needs.

HELP!!!

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 19/02/2011 15:26

Eeek!! Can you do a quick purge?

DumSpiroSpero · 19/02/2011 15:32

Am in bath with door locked atm think goodness. Will tell him I need to clear some stuff and shove it on memory stick, then delete. Don't know what would be on there rather than phone memory - have gallery of pics and several web pages bookmarked (not just RA other stuff I can't have him seeing).

He's already been quizzing me this morning about the browsing history on the pc being deleted.

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 19/02/2011 15:41

You could always drop the phone in the bath I suppose Sad

Haven't you got anything to quiz him about, in retaliation?

Okay none of my business.
Thinking of you anyway...

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 19/02/2011 15:49

I think that there is only limited stuff on the memory card - people used to be able to store contact numbers on there instead of the phone. With smart phones and wifi, I think most stuff is actually on the phone (because the chip has small amount of storage in comparison).

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 19/02/2011 15:51

Actually I think I am referring to the SIM card, so ignore that!

PassTheTwiglets · 19/02/2011 16:11

Massive, it's easy to report a post - on the bar with each poster's name on, there is an option to "report" - just click on that and away you go.

Yikes, good luck with the memory card business, Spiro!!

I am off to babysit my little niece soon and am staying overnight. Not sure how much internettage time I'll have so may be off comms until tomorrow. I was lookgin forward to a nice quiet evening sans Miss and Master Twiglets, and planned to take Lucas with me, but apparently Niece Twiglets doesn't go to sleep until about 11pm Shock
