Just in case no one opens a better one

Just been looking at Twiggy's contribution to the ''unneccesary'' thread. Grin squared

Of course, ladies never fight, I know, Peaches. It's just a nice friendly contest with hatpins at the ready

I have been having a look at RS whom I have seen before of course but didn't know his name. To each his own, and all that, but he doesn't have the factor for me.

And I do sometimes . at other gentlemen besides Mr Armitage, believe it or not. Colin Firth as Mr Darcy, for example.

I wan't joking either, Theresa - I did literally blush whilst walking past it this morning!

TechnoDimmock, I had no idea that there were indoor and outfoor tomatoes! I will make sure when I choose seeds for this year. It could well be the shade that was the prob then, as I put the growbags on the sunny part of the garden - I assumed it was the growbags that made them, well, grow, but sounds like it was just the sun! Really appreciate your advice, Techno. If only there were a way I could thank you properly

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 10/01/2011 18:16

::points fire extinguisher in Theresa's direction::

PassTheTwiglets · 10/01/2011 18:17

The caption to that pic I just posted should be "look into my eyes, not around the eyes, not around the eyes" :o

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 10/01/2011 18:23

::wibbles::

Oh Twiggy. My afternoon is descending into utter, ahem, manure, but that is just wondrous. And so, err, large. If that is to be my reward, I am willing to start a weekly column offering Techno's Tips for Novice Gardeners.

SpottyPeaches · 10/01/2011 18:27

That's some reward! Definately a look into my eyes kind of moment!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/01/2011 18:29

Another important Blighty cultural reference that has passed me by, Twiggy, the one about the eyes, but that piccie was, awful hot. Lawks!

Techno, I couldn't even attempt to watch the BWWMD, I went whoosh, as soon as I saw the caption, and had to retire immediately, like you used to do with fireworks and lighting the blue touch paper. And maybe still do.

Am I wrong, but is it mostly the women in these, er, scenes, who are the grabby ones? And if so what is the philosophical point the director is trying to make here?

OP posts:
LaVieEnTechnicolor · 10/01/2011 18:39

Philosophical point? Well ::dons challenging spectacles and reaches for copy of Plato:: I think these scenes are capable of at least two interpretations. In the first, the Personnage is so Alpha-Maley attractive that all women are putty in his hands and quiver at his touch, powerless to resist his Alpha-Maley need to conquer them. In the second, these Minxes are so empowered and liberated that they feel able (possibly even entitled) to, err, grab. And, of course, in a parallel universe kind of way, both interpretations may simultaneously be true. Or false.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/01/2011 18:49

I think your first interpretation might be a little shakey, Techno, as surely delicate quivering and puttified women should , sort of, wait to be asked instead of helping themselves so enthusiastically. But I might be completely wrong here.

OP posts:
LaVieEnTechnicolor · 10/01/2011 18:57

Fair point, but I don't think we can treat the scenes as if they were homogenous - there's a lot of variation between them. Nuance, as my old professor would say. There are some, I think, in which the women might be seen as so paralysed/intoxicated/puttified that they are no longer capable of even token resistance. But that's a common Hollywood trope, perhaps.

Of course, whether a laydee should wait to be asked or should help herself is a whole other feminist debate.

::sends Theresa a fire blanket, as an essential prop for the thought experiment::

Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/01/2011 19:09

Thanks for the fire blanket, I think I'm going to need one of those special environment suit thingies as well, or never live to tell the tale.

Good job it's only all in the mind, the Limpopoville Fire Brigade would never be able to cope.

JP, in his towel Blush

A thought: if I change my name, am I going to have to change my loction too?

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/01/2011 19:13

or even location

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/01/2011 19:19

Oh bother, RL demands attention. BBL as they used to say in those heady days of chat rooms...

OP posts:
SpottyPeaches · 10/01/2011 19:43

BBL??

MrsLucasNorth · 10/01/2011 20:22

Be back later, Peaches!

Theresa & Techno - have you watched Strikeback? There is a quite a back story to the nuances in that scene!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/01/2011 20:56

And here I am! MrsLN I haven't seen Strike Back yet, I have to take it slow with the Amazon orders. Still waiting for my last one to arrive, worse luck.

OP posts:
SpottyPeaches · 10/01/2011 21:17

Mrs LN will we get to hear the end of Santa story?

PrairieOyster · 10/01/2011 21:17

I note the Rufus Sewell University Challenge but was wondering if might not be a better option

Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/01/2011 21:25

Fancy not knowing the answer to that question, Oyster! Shock
I could expect it on Weakest Link , but I thought MM was supposed to be for intellectuals...

OP posts:
LaVieEnTechnicolor · 10/01/2011 21:27

Ah the old Mastermind question. There was a Spooks question this week, but (amazing but true) they did not mention Lucas.

PrairieOyster · 10/01/2011 21:36

All my RH audiobooks are also on their way now! I will soon own a copy of every RA audiobook known to man...

Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/01/2011 21:40

The RA audiobook world is your oyster, you might say, Oyster.

Not mention Lucas? How very dare they?

OP posts:
LaVieEnTechnicolor · 10/01/2011 21:43

No, the question was something like

Harry, Roz and Tariq were characters in what popular BBC drama?

Well, if they wanted popular they should have added another name to the list, surely?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/01/2011 21:48

Maybe they couldn't decide whether they should say Lucas North or John Bateman, in that case. Sad

I have already started writing my way round that one, in my head. Trying to stop myself though, I have more important things to do than write LN fanfic!
