Just in case no one opens a better one

Ready for some serious perving....

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 17/01/2011 21:06

Is this any good for you, Teri?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 17/01/2011 21:12

It's a thread, Phoenix, where they are gnashing their teeth because DT is getting married and having baby. It wasn't a serious plan, Theresa, just a silly bit of whimsy (and wowuld backfire badly if The Man announced his upcoming nuptials tomorrow, eh?)

Theresaholeinyourmind · 17/01/2011 21:15

Phoenix, that is pretty mad. And mucky. (So why am I thudding, here?)

Thank you, that is a good one, indeed.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 17/01/2011 21:19

I know you were joking, Techno, and so was I, though not about the ooohfulness of our Man of course.

Why the gnashing of teeth over DT, though? If they like him, don't they want him to be happy?

OP posts:
LaVieEnTechnicolor · 17/01/2011 21:27

Well it's about different experiences and interpretations of fandom, I guess, and depends on whether one expects that the object of one's, ahem, regard will, magically, one day hove into view, declaiming his passion and plighting his troth. (And I do know that the weeping and rending of garments may well be in jest too).

MrsLucasNorth · 17/01/2011 21:36

I think it's pretty tongue in cheek Techno ( hope so anyway).

I must admit to having had some outrageous fantasies about MrA over the last few months, but I would rather stick pins under my nails than loiter at stage doors for a glimpse or send him undies in the post!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 17/01/2011 21:38

You are right as always, Techno. On all counts. Having been a fan of something or other most of my life, I have experienced some of the wilder shores in my past, I must admit.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 17/01/2011 21:41

Well to my shame I have actually lurked at stage doors but I was a teenager! However even I never went the knickers by post route.

OP posts:
LaVieEnTechnicolor · 17/01/2011 21:47

I am seldom right, Theresa. I am always opinionated and willing to shoot the breeze.

I have never understood the attraction of loitering by stage doors for a Sacred Glimpse (and am therefore baffled that, for example, a grainy vid of the back of The Man's head as he gets onto a bus after the Old Vic plays is on YT. Why? How does it add to the sum total of human happiness?)

Am I the only one here, then, who has sent knickers by post?

::Hark! The sound of a million minds boggling::

MrsLucasNorth · 17/01/2011 21:53

I have done the odd bit of stage door lurking for the sake of an autograph, but ironically could never do it for the sake of seeing/meeting someone I actually fancy. I'd feel a prat and make an idiot of myself (and I'm quite happy doing that anonymously on here)! Grin

MrsLucasNorth · 17/01/2011 21:54

That vid on YouTube did make me chuckle I must admit, Techno. I can't help but cringe at some of the 'candid' photos to be found online too - it must be such a pain in the arse for him to have to deal with that.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 17/01/2011 21:59

That's exactly what I think is so alarming, MrsLN - some of the apparent devotion looks more like harassment or intrusion to me.

::Thinks of Kathy Bates in Misery::

MrsLucasNorth · 17/01/2011 21:59

Digressing for a moment, what would you think if you saw a woman in her mid thirties wearing this?

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 17/01/2011 22:03

I've never done the lurking by stage doors thing either, though in the case of The Man...well perhaps...but I feel that's just a tradition and acceptable in a funny sort of way...my mum used to lurk at stage doors at the RSC, she told me many moons ago...

I have been at events with movie stars a stones throw away from me, and managed to refrain from swooning...but I guess it depends who it is....

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 17/01/2011 22:04

My judgment (and I'm afraid I do judging of a professional, nay Olympic, standard) would have nothing to do with her age but a lot to do with the state of her upper arms. I love the style and I love the print but it would never work for me (norkage and bingo wings issues).

Theresaholeinyourmind · 17/01/2011 22:04

For an opiniated lady, you make a lot of sense, Techno. I suppose the Sacred Glimpse phenomenon has some element of curiosity and another of wanting to confirm for yourself that the Sacred Being has some existance in the Real World.

But that is only the proverbial thin end of the wedge, perhaps and everyone is different..

I could never do it now. In the old days i was with a load of equally silly squealing girls, which was camouflage of a sort.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 17/01/2011 22:09

Oh, yes Misery.
I'm your number one fan!
Eek. I did know someone marginally famous once and he used to shudder and laugh at the same time at that one

OP posts:
LaVieEnTechnicolor · 17/01/2011 22:13

Theresa. I hadn't thought it through that carefully, but your point about seeking confirmation of the Sacred Being's existence in the Real World hits the nail on the head, I think.

MrsLucasNorth · 17/01/2011 22:15

Fair enough Techno. I love it - couldn't wear it at the mo but am thinking of ordering it for the summer by which time I could have sorted out any bingo wings/norkage issues.

Obviously the sensible thing would be to wait until summer and reappraise the bw/n situation then, but it'd no doubt be sold out be then.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 17/01/2011 22:19

Oh no! Don't let my issues put you off, MrsLN. It's a great dress - really distinctive. Even if your norkage/bingo wings issues are as severe as mine (which I very much doubt) a nice shrug would take care of them. Plus you have youth on your side.

MrsLucasNorth · 17/01/2011 22:20

Trust me - mine are probably considerably more severe than your I'm just delusional an eternal optimist!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 17/01/2011 22:22

Was that dress very Mad Men, MrsLN? I haven't seen the show, only articles about it but the dress has a fifties flavour which I think is all the go now perhaps?

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 17/01/2011 22:23

I don't think it's to do with age though, Techno, like you said earlier.

I have a friend who'll be 57 in March and I can imagine her wearing that and looking brilliant. She's not the skinniest of women and doesn't look ridiculously younger than her years - she just has the attitude and the personality to work something like that.

MrsLucasNorth · 17/01/2011 22:24

Haven't seen Mad Men, Theresa. But I have a thing for anything with a newsprint pattern - handbags, teacups - you name it...Grin
