Welcome to the new common room! Grab yourself some Twiglets and a glass of Chateau Gisborne or some Polish Cordial and come on in - the water's lovely!

Well, she certainly knows what she wants and is, ahem, assertive in stating her requirements.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/12/2010 12:40

''He walks in beauty, like the night

Of cloudless climes and starry skies;

And all that's best of dark and bright

Meet in his, er, aspect and his eyes...''

How is that epic work of yours coming on, BTW, Flowers?

asmallbunchofflowers · 07/12/2010 12:47

Another angelic face

This one is numinous

and so is this

BodenBabe · 07/12/2010 12:50

My booze wasn't virtual :)

Lady Gaga is very rude, isn't she? DD adores her but I refuse to let her look up lyrics! Luckily, when LG sings "I Like It Rough", it sounds exactly like "And I Give Up" :)

Canova sculpted the most beautiful lion on Titian's monument in Venice. It's one of my must-sees whenever we go there. I just want to stroke his mane.
Speaking of which...

Those make you realise the vast gulfs that exist between ''real'' angels and rather naughty boys in black leather.

Human imagination is a strange animal, I often think. We spend so much of our time diverting ourselves with make-believe.

But. The continuation of that Byron piece reminds me of your Mr T so much

''And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,

So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,

The smiles that win, the tints that glow,

But tell of days in goodness spent,

A mind at peace with all below,

A heart whose love is innocent!''

asmallbunchofflowers · 07/12/2010 12:57

Work on My Bad Boy Byron has stalled - I have writer's block - but I shall resume soon.

This is the reading I omitted to give last night.

It appeared to Mr. Thornton that all these graceful cares were habitual to the family; and especially of a piece with Margaret. She stood by the tea-table in a light-coloured muslin gown, which had a good deal of pink about it. She looked as if she was not attending to the conversation, but solely busy with the tea-cups, among which her round ivory hands moved with pretty, noiseless, daintiness. She had a bracelet on one taper arm, which would fall down over her round wrist. Mr. Thornton watched the replacing of this troublesome ornament with far more attention than he listened to her father. It seemed as if it fascinated him to see her push it up impatiently, until it tightened her soft flesh; and then to mark the loosening the fall. He could almost have exclaimed 'There it goes, again!' There was so little left to be done after he arrived at the preparation for tea, that he was almost sorry the obligation of eating and drinking came so soon to prevent his watching Margaret. She handed him his cup of tea with the proud air of an unwilling slave; but her eye caught the moment when he was ready for another cup; and he almost longed to ask her to do for him what he saw her compelled to do for her father, who took her little finger and thumb in his masculine hand, and made them serve as sugar-tongs.

Finally for now, I have one more numinous angel face to show you before I depart for the costermonger's.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/12/2010 12:58

Hello, Boden. Nice lion. Nice mane.Wink

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/12/2010 13:00

Another truly good face. That's me put in my place!
Have fun at the costermongers, Flowers. And don't pinch the peaches.

asmallbunchofflowers · 07/12/2010 13:06

Hello, Boden. Very leonine indeed. Rrrrr.

I had not made the imaginative leap, Theresa, to seeing dear, dear Mr Thornton in that poem. I fear he is not always calm and not always at peace with all below, as he is so often in silent torment, poor lamb. But, oh, that cheek and brow.

And as for the diversion, well, humankind cannot bear too much reality.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/12/2010 13:12

I was sort of imagining the glow in the face of Mr T at the station, and for the rest of his life with Margaret.

Of course, that is in just one universe. In others he spends time with a charming lady of refined sensitivity named Flowers.

Mais revenons a nos peches. Au revoir!

asmallbunchofflowers · 07/12/2010 13:18

No, you are quite right. It's just that in all my time reading that poem I had failed to see the connection.

The day I really start spending my time with a 190 year old, fictional man, you have my permission to call NHS Direct on my help.

Aux peches, citoyens!

BodenBabe · 07/12/2010 13:48

NHS Direct? Did someone call for a Doctor?

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/12/2010 13:58

I think they must have locked him in the on call room, Boden. That link won't let us see him. :(

BodenBabe · 07/12/2010 14:13

Oh shame - must be a Limpopo thing as it still works fine for me. It was a pic of Dr Track talking into a phone, looking all anxious.

Must attend to RL now, dammit.

Hello Ladies, have been catching up. My phone died a horrible death last night so missed the end of the party. Hope your heads are OK today.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/12/2010 15:05

My head feels like your phone, Stripey

Here's a

asmallbunchofflowers · 07/12/2010 15:10

Hello Stripey.

I couldn't open your link either, Boden. Was it anything like this?

A most successful trip to the costermonger's. .

BodenBabe · 07/12/2010 16:22

How odd, I wonder why it didn't work for you both? Anyhoo, Flowers if you click the forward button twice, to skip 2 photos on, that was the one I posted.

Temptation Eyes is beautiful, Theresa!

I probably won't be around until tomorro wnow so I thought I would leave you all with some Lucas homework (hope my links work this time!)

Oh and I just ADORE [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRxGnB0xCxs&feature=related
this one]]. Some of my favourite photos in here (and also one of my worst - take a guess!) If you'er handy with the pause button, look at the 'smiling in a tux' photo at 2.48-2.49

OP posts:
vintageteacups · 07/12/2010 16:35

It worked for me. Lovely Wink

vintageteacups · 07/12/2010 16:41

Well Boden, that last video has set me up for the night.

I think your worst might be the long stubble one? To be honest, they're all hot so not quite sure what you're on about Grin

asmallbunchofflowers · 07/12/2010 17:07

Oh, that Bring him home vid makes me want to weep for its sheer pessimism and bleakness (although maybe I'm just projecting everything I know will eventually happen). Offspring has been watching with me - I shooed her out but she snuck back in - so we have also been throwing shapes to the Killers.

Mind you, I see your tuxedo shot and raise you Commander Bond

BodenBabe · 07/12/2010 17:21

Feeling mega stressed (long story!) so have snuck back in here for 5 mins peace! Teacups, nah I like the stubble :) Worst pic is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it posed magazine photo at 2.55 - suit but no shirt . Lovely chest, of course, but all that's missing is the medallion .

Heh, just noticed a wasted opportunity from the vid-maker. There was a line which went "somebody call the doctor" and there no accompanying visual!

Bring Him Home brought a tear to my eye. I wouldn't have found it sad had I not known about Lucas' ultimate demise. It feels quite uplifting if you don't know about that - he is finally coming home after 8 years and everything is alright now. though of course we know otherwise :( Poor, beautiful Lucas.

Right, really going now.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/12/2010 17:22

Funny though how we all get so involved with the story of Lucas/John, though, isn't it? He always looks so ethereal, other-wordly, with the pale skin and blue eyes and black hair and elfin ears.

Well, Commander Bond is great, but he doesn't rock my world to the quite shocking and unprecedented extent that
''six foot two, eyes of blue '' does.
But that's just me. I am odd, I am sure.

Looking forward to studying the other texts. that first one has me wanting to sob my heart out too. Why do they do this to us? And why do we let them? Angry

We really could do with some more rollicking high spirits or even gentle humour like Dibley to set us to rights.

asmallbunchofflowers · 07/12/2010 17:39

I agree, Boden, that some of the very posed-looking magazine/publicity/whatever shots are cringeworthy.

Today's text has just been sent over from the Department of Eastern Philosophy: When anger rises, think of the consequences. - Confucius
