"...an insatiable appetite"

Y'know I think I could live with that (assuming we're not talking appetite for Locksley apples there...Wink)

Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/11/2010 13:40

Talking of insatiable appetites what news of your creative writing projects, Mrs LN?

asmallbunchofflowers · 30/11/2010 13:42

That may be where we differ, then, Theresa. Shrinkology is very much My Thing.

I suspect it means all kinds of appetite, MrsLN. Not only Locksley apples.

If we want uncomplicated we probably have to go with Harry (although wasn't he running away from something too?)

Time for a gratuitous profile

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/11/2010 13:58

I have just been watching him die a Beautiful Death...
The profile cheered me up, gratuitous or not.

asmallbunchofflowers · 30/11/2010 14:08

That profile is especially beauteous, in my 'umble opinion.

I have only seen the Beautiful Death as a YT clip but his final speech is certainly well-written (rather more so than some other bits of the script, which descend almost into panto). We have just had the BBT armour moment. I almost scorched Offspring's school uniform.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever

That's how I watched it too, Flowers, We won't get it on TV for ages. But I felt the need to immunise myself for the future.I also watched how the petulant little fuckwit bought it. And he has another girlfrend by then. So how is Marion his only love forever? What a travesty. And what a triumph over mediocrity on the part of Mr Armitage.

IIRC Guy was being rather bad when that portrait was painted. But tres alluring even so.

Sorry about your ironing debacle. My solution to such things is do no ironing

asmallbunchofflowers · 30/11/2010 14:32

Well yes, I have a great deal of sympathy with the slatternly approach to housework but I find ironing quite soothing, especially when combined with a choice dvd or two. It used, ahem, to be Casino Royale and Pal Joey.

Yes, Guy was a long way from any state of grace when that portrait was painted.

I do feel that with most of Mr Armitage's tv work he has been better than the material he has been given. That is why I so much admire his Craft and Artistry and yearn to see him in Proper Plays that last more than half an hour.

''That is why I so much admire his Craft and Artistry and yearn to see him in Proper Plays that last more than half an hour.''

Agreed.

I am beginning to have doubts about The Hobbit, things continue to go wrong-- even if that racism thing was just sick publicity it's not a good sign. It must be extemely frustrating for those commited to appearing in it.

asmallbunchofflowers · 30/11/2010 14:46

What racism thing?

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/11/2010 14:55

Oh, somebody claimed the casting director was acting on racist grounds when hiring extras.

asmallbunchofflowers · 30/11/2010 15:00

There are no words, are there?

Right, must be strong, gird my loins and head out into the snow for the school run.

Teresa

Extremely well informed, aren't you - been lurking somewhere hobbitty?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/11/2010 16:31

I could tell you, Oyster, but I'd have to kill you. Wink
No. It was in several of the UK papers, so no need for lurking.

asmallbunchofflowers · 30/11/2010 16:35

Oh Lordy. Just spent half an hour waiting at a bus stop for the bus that never came. We are doomed never to get to the dentist and, meanwhile, I have frostbite.

Err, I found the Hobbit story (following Theresa's clues) in that organ of Middle Earth England, the Daily Telegraph.

OP posts:
PrairieOyster · 30/11/2010 16:46

So who is saying Guy is a psychopath? You're probably right.

must stop reading steamy Guy fics

asmallbunchofflowers · 30/11/2010 16:53

I was. I don't think there's much to be gained from attaching 21st century labels to a 12th century fictional character (BBC version) but I certainly think that Guy has several psychopathic traits, even if he does not have enough of them (or have them to a sufficient extent) to be diagnosed as a psychopath. It's part of his bad, mad and dangerous to know allure.

OP posts:
PrairieOyster · 30/11/2010 16:58

Anyone read / listened to Lords of the North - Uhtred has some similarities to Guy and some interesting differences. You can't judge either character by 21st century morals though.

PrairieOyster · 30/11/2010 17:06

Interesting - I think fanfic tones down the psychopathic traits quite a bit...makes Guy into a lovely puppy dog who follows Marion around with his tongue hanging out...

must also stop reading steamy North and South fic - Lordy!--

PrairieOyster · 30/11/2010 17:10

BTW don't forget to vote

Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/11/2010 17:10

Not yet, Oyster, still waiting for that and another one.

I knew I shouldn't have spent all that time this arvo agonising over a fictional character, I should have gone to the source instead. Who could know better? Alway providing it's accurately reported that is.

I do find that sort of analysis fascinating. It's similar to the sort of thing a writer does when trying to invent characters, which is great fun.

Glad you survived the arctic wastes, Flowers. Did you take hot soup with you?

asmallbunchofflowers · 30/11/2010 17:11

I agree with you to some extent, Oyster. I haven't heard any of the audio books so can't comment on Uhtred, but I certainly don't think there's any sense in attempting a modern diagnosis of Guy's (or Lovelace's or even Lucas' psychologicial issues). On the other hand, I think some (most?) moral values are pretty universal across time and so some judgement is possible. That's why I wince when people try to minimise or explain away the fact that Lovelace drugs and rapes Clarissa.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/11/2010 17:14

I duly voted. Do you want us to keep that link on each page? I am sure we ladies would want to do our bit.

asmallbunchofflowers · 30/11/2010 17:16

Is it first past the post or a single transferable vote?
