... how long could you survive with what you have in your house right now?

Do you have any tins/bottled water etc put away in case of a emergency?

Have been frealing myself out reading some wacky conspiray sites (all baging on about something huge happeneing in the next 2 weeks) - Im not be;lieveing it, but it has made me think that one day there could be an event and I probably would only last a week with my store cupboard!

Oh, rosie, that is a good idea! Bring your DH, he'll be useful!

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 05/11/2010 18:26

Word is getting out then, that's a tennis racquet and 2 lacrosse sticks spotted already.

FellatioNelson · 05/11/2010 18:27

Shit. I've blown my cover. Ok, you can come but only if you bring long life cake.

twolittlemonkeys · 05/11/2010 18:43

We'd be ok for food for months and months - I have a garage full of stuff with a long shelf life (pasta, rice, oats, pulses, all sorts of tinned food, packet mixes, squash, a couple of months worth of breakfast cereal, powdered milk, flour, sugar, syrup, jams etc...) I even have wheat and a wheat grinder (as wheat lasts a lot longer than flour) so can make my own bread easily with the breadmaker. I try to rotate and use what I have in but luckily most of it has a very long life. I probably have enough bottled water for a few days. I need to store more of that.

In addition I just recently put together a 72 hour pack for us, containing enough to keep us alive and comfortable should we need to leave our house for up to 3 days!

Yes, I realise I sound crazy for storing so much food, but I consider it a form of insurance - if DH loses his job or we have some other financial crisis in the family, at least we could eat for quite a while before needing to worry. In the meantime I do use what I have there and rotate my stock, especially towards the end of the month when I can't afford to do another food shop Grin If we were in a situation where this was all we had to eat, my DSs would need to stop being so fussy though!

I too am in East Anglia. It's sort of a shame I don't need to stalk Fellatio any more because the geographical proximity would have made it all a lot easier.

There are posh horses? Do they neigh in accents, like dogs? And I thought we'd agreed not to kill the horses - we need them for our apocalyptic looting and zombie fighting. Only chickens and household pets to be killed.

GawainsLady · 05/11/2010 19:04

Okay - namechanged as don't want to 'out' myself but...

I definitely get a place on the bus along with my 2 children, as DH is a survivalist - as in, he does it for a living. He is on the telly and everything Grin

I and the DC know everything about survival too, secondhand though. DH probably wouldn't agree to go on the MN bus, however, he would more likely have some spirited away location he knew how to get us to where literally no one would be.

Hassled · 05/11/2010 19:10

Mrs Mears, you're in :o. You're as in as an in thing. You could not be more in that bus if you tried. Do you want to sit up with the driver or be cool and sit at the back? Entirely up to you.

GawainsLady · 05/11/2010 19:14

Hassled hooray I would love to sit in the back, and dispense all the wisdom up the rows.

However, on a serious note - Ray Mears's lovely wife who I had the pleasure to meet a few times died a few years ago Sad so Mrs Mears I'm not.

TandB · 05/11/2010 19:17

Got to be Mrs Grylls then.
Although Wikipedia says she has three children - is the two DC reference a deliberate diversion, hmm?

Hassled · 05/11/2010 19:19

Sorry about Mrs Mears.

TandB · 05/11/2010 19:22

So the question you have to ask yourself, Gawainslady, is do you really want to be spirited away to the wilderness, or do you want to travel there in comfort on the Bodenbus?

FellatioNelson · 05/11/2010 19:28

Erm - isn't already a MrsBearGrylls on here somewhere? Either that is you, and you named youself quite literally, in which the name change was a bit poinless, or MrsBearGrylls is an imposter and she needs to be told she can't usurp your position.

Hassles - I love that. 'You're in, in as an in thing.'

That's my quote of the week.

FellatioNelson · 05/11/2010 19:29

So many typos sorry. The gin has kicked in early. I have six 11 year olds in my house after all - what do you expcet?

FellatioNelson · 05/11/2010 19:30

Are there any other TV survivalists? Hang on - will ask the 11 year olds. They know this stuff.

GawainsLady · 05/11/2010 19:32

I am not saying whether I've deliberately diverted or giving any other info Grin I am now disappearing back into my normal name but will enjoy the speculation

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 05/11/2010 19:33

We might let you havea go at piloting the warship Grin

FellatioNelson · 05/11/2010 19:33

What's it like having sex with a bear?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 05/11/2010 19:33

Are you Mrs Canterbury? Thats the only other one i know...

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 05/11/2010 19:36

I'll let you know Fellatio, if there's ever a leg over situation with Boris that is.

FellatioNelson · 05/11/2010 19:36

Anyway - no matter. WE can all now officially defer to you. Could you please ask Mr Bear to come up with the definitive shopping list sometime in the next week pleas? We shouldn't leave it too late, in case everyone cottons on, and there is a national lentil shortage, and a run on UHT milk.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 05/11/2010 19:37

I have 12 pints of UHT Milk so thats a start. :)

FellatioNelson · 05/11/2010 19:37

Hang on Sarah Stratton - are you the Mrs Bear Person?

GawainsLady · 05/11/2010 19:37

Will ask him to make a definitive "Mumsnet List" as he would love it - I very rarely ever get into the whole survival thing so he will be in no small state of euphoria if I act interested.

FellatioNelson · 05/11/2010 19:39

[Hmm.] Sarah, is that you changing back and forth? hmm?

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 05/11/2010 19:40

No no, I just fancy Boris Johnson, he is rather bear-like too.

Mrs Bear would you ask him if a polo stick is suitable zombie defence please. Just that the plumber has left rather a lot of copper piping in the basement and I was wondering...
