Over here ladies!

OP posts:
ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 21:01

Oh Fettle, cross-posted, sorry!

Yes, we've had the usual learned academic discourse and intellectual debate*, supported by some well-chosen audio-visual aids. Enjoy!

*Well it must be intellectual - nobody said phwoooaaar.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 21:02

Welcome home, Fettle!!! We missed you too.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 21:04

''*Well it must be intellectual - nobody said phwoooaaar.''
But we thought it. Oh yes we did.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 21:05

And the fan letters weren't our finest hour

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 21:14

Fan letter? That was a work in progress. I posted mine this afternoon. >

I've been having another rummage in the YT basement. Last night Theresa shared a tune by Lena Horne and now I bring you Dinah Washington and .

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 21:34

I think I must have, like, txtd mine. So far he hasn't txtd back.

Thanks for the look at the Thing of Beauty.
Did you notice the shot of Guy against the flickering red sky? That sequence was in RH last night, and it is almost mythical, with a vibe reminiscent of the big LOTR set-pieces, the whole landscape ominous and overcast with sullen flames. It is nearly sunset so the sun is going down in a blaze of crimson, and soldiers holding torches are surrounding Nottingham preparing to destroy it.

And Guy rides out alone and does his prince on horseback thing.
It really should go down in our thesis as illustrative of the Guy as Fallen Angel theme. With the flames of hell flickering behind him

Myth and Metaphor in Minghella's oeuvre ?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 22:06

Well, when I say I posted it, I mean that I entrusted it to an urchin and told him to hand it personally to Mr Armitage's agent, with the promise of sixpence if he did.

I have, for the sake of meticulous research, just watched Thing Of Beauty 2 again and noted the red sky.

40deniertights · 07/11/2010 22:40

I am concerned that none of you have done sufficient studying of John Porter (from Strike Back). You can't just ignore it because you favour your art a bit less modern and current you know. You have to study all of the topic in depth. Which one of you will be appearing on Mastermind, with brandishing this as your specialist subject do you think? Is it possible to go on as a team, with expert knowledge of each characterisation?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 22:47

Tights! Good to see you.

I do ignore Strike Back because I get far too angsty about modern warfare and depictions thereof. Can you tell me what I've been missing? And do you think we could bluff our way onto University Challenge, as the Armitage Institute for Contemporary Media Studies?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 22:53

Just what we needed, 40DT. Flowers was saying the same earlier on. We need people to flesh out our knowledge of the RA repertoire. John Porter of Strike Back could be an important addition to our fields of study. Didn't someone on the production team refer to RA as''incredibly handsome'' So obviously this work is a worthy vehicle for his Talents.

We hope we can rely on you to head up this important new Armitage initiative.

We shall be casting lots for the one with the Speedos.

'Ecky thump, YT is taking forever to load tonight and I need my Guy at six seconds fix

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 23:01

Leave me out of the raffle for the speedos. I have bagsied Monet and his floppy white shirts.

Have you found your six second Guy yet, Theresa?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 23:01

Well, that was worth waiting for. And the other fours minutes or so are mighty fine. Pass the ice water.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 23:02
cornishpasty · 07/11/2010 23:04

I'll help your very worthy cause.

I have been a massive fan now for ages and have watched almost everything RA has done (except the whole BTS).
You definitely must not neglect John Porter! There's so much more than all the war and guns stuff.

What about the Moving On episode he was in last year? Anyone see that? He played John (are you noticing a name theme here?) Mulligan and was another bad boy!

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 23:13

Nah, can't do soldiers and warfare (except of the medieval type). But what was Moving On? I missed that completely.

And Mr Armitage is "incredibly handsome"? What an amazing insight! What a brilliant apercu! Can I have that person's job?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 23:15

''I have bagsied Monet and his floppy white shirts.''
Give him a bit of a shave while you're at it then, Flowers. That face fungus is tres dodgy.Still we should be thankful, At least he didn't play Van Gogh and appear with only one ear. Zut alors.

I have just got really disgusted with myself. How can I have found watching a man run people through with a big sword , ahem, interesting?

cornish I am sure we will be really glad of your contribution. We must all do our bit.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 23:23

''Passes Theresa a hot milky drink, as otherwise there's no chance she'll get to sleep tonight''

Any chance of a drop o' Polish Cordial in that?

Perhaps a listen to Clarissa will send me off....

Maybe not quite in the right way, though...

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 23:27

Now you see, Theresa, I am a bit of a pogonophile. On the right face. And I think here we are talking about The Right Face. Do you think it was his own, or did some lucky make-up artiste get the job of fondling his granite jaw every morning?

I agree that we need to do some collaborative, multidisciplinary research with everyone pitching in.

Frankly, I think there is probably a whole other thesis to be written about the, ahem, symbolism of big swords but as I am a Serious Academic and Aesthete - and am still rather busy on My Bad Boy Byron, having today bought Edna O'Brien's biography of him, for comparative research - I do not propose to write it.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 23:36

Of course. Polish Cordial in the ovaltine, why did I not think of that before?

Having now caught up on Strictly, I am listening to the end of episode 3 of Clarissa. He is such a good Villain, isn't he?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 23:37

''Do you think it was his own...?''
Looked like ze sweepings of ze old shag pile carpet to me. I prefer to stick to a three day stubble, with a few cuts and bloody scratches. And a big sword.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 23:42

Was just thinking of which Shakespeare plays or roles I would like to see Mr Armitage in - virtually all of them although I admit he is now too mature for Romeo and I'm too squeamish for Lear or Coriolanus - so will just say get thee to a nunnery.

I know that (just as with Spooks) one should not pick holes in the plot of Robin Hood, but how did Guy manage to have three day stubble every day? Did he have Ye Remington Beard and Designer Stubble Trimmer?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 23:58

A collectors' item of the future. Get your bids in quick

Theresaholeinyourmind · 07/11/2010 23:59

He'd look bonny in a snow white toga, that's for sure.
How would you rate him as Anthony in A&C? Nice Roman soldier outfit and all.
I don't like Lear either, all that ''out, vile jelly'' palaver. And Goneril always sounded like an STD to me.
He'd make a great Henry V,imagine him doing the St Crispin's day speech in The Voice? But would have to be careful about the armour.
He wants to be Richard III doesn't he? I suppose it could be permitted.

Funniy enough, Guy's stubble does vary. Sometimes he's almost sleekly clean shaven. And sometime he isn't. And tres mucky-looking with it.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 08/11/2010 00:03

''A collectors' item of the future''
I don't think even Teri the fangirl would sink that low. Twenty smackers? Yer 'avin a larf!

Does it come with a widdle pwastic sword?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 08/11/2010 00:06

''You are bidding on the following

ROBIN HOOD ACTION FIGURE:

GUY OF GISBORNE

w/Sword & Scabbard''

Ooooh, it does!
