Over here ladies!

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 14:53

Must be his tea break, Flowers. Or he has gone to snog the nurses in the on-call room or something

MrsLucasNorth · 09/11/2010 14:53

Afternnon Ladies - am just off on the school run but need your help to answer a couple of questions, firstly:

The episode of Spooks where Lucas appears to be a in Russian Brothel - Series 7 or 8?

And, Clarissa - am I being dense cos I really am not at all sure what Lovelace was after with her? If it was her inheritance he could have just been nicer to her and she no doubt would have married him anyway - so presumably it was just sex, but why? It sounds like he could (and did) have the pick of pretty much anyone he fancied, either by virtue of his charm or his ability to pay for it - was she really supposed to that special? And would a lady in that day and age really have reacted the way she did to his advances? I know she'd have been horrifed regardless of our personal persuasion with regard to RA playing Lovelace, but she seemed a bit overly dramatic about it all to me?

Right - will be back later - must collect MissLN!!!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 14:57

7 I think, Mrs LN,I saw the ep yesterday, either ep 7 or 8
Can't think why you want to know

Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 15:10
Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 15:44

On a more worthy note, you have to take a look at this
What do you think? Grin

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 09/11/2010 15:55

Have you ever lost something?

Yes, my composure listening to you.

MrsLN. About Clarissa. What I took from it [disclaimer: am not Professor of English Literature] is that Lovelace had, he said, vowed revenge on the entire female sex after suffering the humiliation of finding some previous inamorata in the arms of another. Women, he said, do not have souls. And I suspect that Lovelace was probably addicted to the chase and the conquest of (often not unwilling) women. Clarissa was initially flattered by his attentions - he was, after all, the handsomest man in all England - but then deterred by her brother's condemnation of Lovelace as a rake, with whom no respectable woman (in an age when reputation was everything) could consort. Lovelace pursues her, I think, because he cannot bear to be defeated, whether in winning her affections (he constantly craves forgiveness for unforgivable actions), outsmarting her family or simply adding her to his many conquests. Gaining her estate seems subordinate to all of that.

Bodenbabe · 09/11/2010 16:00

good lord, Theresa - that's uncanny :)

MrsLucasNorth · 09/11/2010 16:03

Thanks Flowers. So it is largely about sex and revenge. Seems an awful lot if effort to go to for the sake of it. hey Ho....

Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 16:04

I had heard the comparison before, Boden, and poo-poo'd it to myself. Maybe it owes a lot to the hairdo and costume?
We need Flowers to give a verdict, she's the Professor of Thornton.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 09/11/2010 16:08

I don't think much, Theresa, because Harry Potter leaves me cold (although I do note that Mr Armitage seems to be the only Brits actor of any consequence not to have appeared in it). But the Offspring watched that clip and the trailers, turned to me and, unprompted, said "he looks like Richard Armitage, doesn't he, mummy?"

Is that what you were looking for? Wink

Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 16:12

Offspring is obviously receiving a Proper Education.

I do tend to think it's mostly the cravat, myself. But near enough to make me do a double-take Grin

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 09/11/2010 16:13

Aha. Crossed posts. My, cough, expertise is in demand.

He looks very nice, but fails to reach the (stratospherically high) standard set by Mr Thornton in the chiselled and sculpted department. But, bless him, he's still very young. Let's see in 2030.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 09/11/2010 16:16

Makes me realise how much of an education Offspring has received. Blush

Just as I feel uncomfortable discussing Mr Armitage rather than any of his personae, so I don't want to discuss Young Mr Radcliff. I am old enough to be his mother.

Bodenbabe · 09/11/2010 16:37

LOL at Offspring's observance, Flowers! :) I always thought Daniel Radcliffe was quite cute in an "ah, bless him" kind of way but that Thorntonesque get-up does unnerve one somewhat...

Result for Boden - free Mr Armitage! The DVD of Golden Hour was faulty (in the sense of 'works sporadically', not in the sense of 'my word, this is dreadful tat') so I asked for a refund. They refunded me but said I can keep the disc, how nice. So now I feel utterly justified in ordering another fine piece of drama instead :) Wishing I hadn't put N&S on my Xmas list so that I could watch it soon...

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 09/11/2010 16:54

Yes, but the cravat was defective - tied like a tie, rather than in a bow. I am Very Particular about cravats.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 09/11/2010 17:01

Tee hee at Gratis Golden Hour. I'm wondering how bad it would have to get before we wouldn't watch Mr Armitage.

Mr Armitage does Celebrity Cash in The Attic

Mr Armitage does How Clean Is Your Celebrity House

Mr Armitage does Come Dine With Celebrity Me? Shock

Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 17:12

Has anyone thought of checking out Cold Feet yet? I fear that is a load of dreadful tat too, but with some redeeming features, mayhap..

A bit of a re-cap. I have been thinking there should be a Sequel to Clarissa In which Lovelace is Redeemed after getting a taste of his own medicine sympathetically administered by a bevy of all our alter egos. They could sit on him till he took it back about their souls.

Finally on the Shakespearean front, I have been imagining RA as a very dark and angry Oberon, with elf ears.

''Ill met by moonlight, proud Titania''
Smoulder.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 17:22

I thought CBeebies was pretty bad, if I'm honest. But sweet I think I'd draw the line at Top Gear though...

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 09/11/2010 17:23

The tragic thing is that I gave up on Cold Feet long before Mr Armitage and his, ahem, minimal costumes hove into view. 'Twas dreadful tripe.

The only flaw in your Clarissa sequel plan, Theresa, is that Robert Lovelace expires at the end of Clarissa from blood loss and (probably) septicaemia as a result of a duel with Clarissa's cousin. But we could tweak that too, I'm sure.

I've been thinking of something by Arthur Miller or Tennessee Williams. Lots of potential for anger and smouldering - thinks a notably handsome Willy Loman - and an opportunity for that American accent (which I rather liked, sorry Boden) to reappear. Or he'd be a magnificent Frank Butler in Annie Get Your Gun, singing I'm A Bad Bad Man.

We're likely to fill this thread in the next 24 hours. What next? RAA Redux? RAA Resurgens?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 09/11/2010 17:24

Actually, Mr Armitage as the star in a reasonably priced car would be very very popular with all members of the SmallHousehold .... Blush

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 09/11/2010 17:31

Eeek! Hadn't spotted how close to the 1000 count we were.

Richard Armitage Anonymous Resurgens

Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 17:35

Re dreadful tripe, remember Fast Forward is a wonderful thing...

Lovelace death tweakable, I'm sure, Flowers, no worries.

I think we should go for something intellectual for the new thread. which may be needed sooner than you think.

Academy for Advanced Armitage Studies at Miltown-North ?

I lied about Top Gear

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 09/11/2010 17:47

Oh dear. I've already started the new thread (see link above) with a fairly dull title as I didn't want it to be too opaque to newcomers. Your title is far better, though.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 18:06

I added this because I didn't like the sight of the 999. Too like 666 upside down

Theresaholeinyourmind · 09/11/2010 18:08

The Johns, Guy, Lucas, whoever. We love you.
