So how much exactly will it cost the tax payer to incarcerate him for 4 weeks?

And in 5 years he will have his licence back.Hmm

Why not give him a life driving ban, and a (much) larger fine?

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 14/09/2010 18:47

Because he has enough money not to worry too much about fines and he could easily have a chauffeur. Prison will presumably get the message through to him.

LynetteScavo · 14/09/2010 18:58

Yes, he could easily have a chauffeur (so why didn't her have one?) If the message gets through to him when he's in prison, he would employ a chauffeur from now on, anyway.

Driving is a privilege not a right, IMO. I think he should have just had his licence taken away permanently, and a big enough fine to cover all police/court costs, plus more.

About time.

This is his fifth car offence in 4 years.

Nothing else has worked, prison is a last resource for habitual offenders.

LynetteScavo · 14/09/2010 19:37

Yes, but prison is a very expensive option. Why not just take away his licence for life last time?

And if he gets his licence back in 5 years time, he's free to do it again. Or worse.

nikkershaw · 14/09/2010 19:38

i feel sorry for him

HerBeatitude · 14/09/2010 19:49

oh because for some reason driving a car is treated as if it's a basic human rihgt.

Don't know why

whomovedmychocolate · 14/09/2010 20:14

Why can't he be sent to prison and be forced to pay for his own care in prison? Seriously I'm interested in why this can't happen?

scurryfunge · 14/09/2010 20:16

Because the law should be treating people equally and not according to your wallet.

whomovedmychocolate · 14/09/2010 20:17

So he's gone to a regular prison unit then - no special treatment?

scurryfunge · 14/09/2010 20:19

He will go to the nearest available prison first and then probably get moved soon after.

Tweeze · 14/09/2010 20:24

I think he's in Pentonville prison. It would explain the photographers outside the back gates as I shambled past this evening.

Hmmm, my teenage crush is but a few streets away. So near yet so far and all that.

LynetteScavo · 14/09/2010 20:26

It'll give him something interesting to put in the next autobiography, anyway.

When Prince Nassem Hammed, the boxer, went to prison he went first to the local prison and then almost straight away to the Cat D/Open Prison. However he was in a normal prison routine, although had a single cell IIRR, and was expected to follow the same proceduares - working, ecucation, etc. He did get some preferential treatment for some staff and other offenders at times, but on the whole treated normally within the system. Howver he did seem to get to an Open Prison quicker and a better line of "work" easier.

Shock
cyb · 14/09/2010 20:31

I'm organising a 'Pepsi and Shirley' prison roof protest if anyone is interested

Lizzylou · 14/09/2010 20:31

I am gobsmacked, had no idea.
I agree a lifetime ban and humungous ban would have been better.

Goodness, imagine GM in prison????!!!

I am with WMMC, in prison he costing us, he should have been fined massively and given something back.

justwhen · 14/09/2010 20:32

i still love him xx]

NiceShoes · 14/09/2010 20:43

With all his money why couldn't he prvately pay for therapy? How did his problems come to this?Progressing so far into addiction is sad.I still love GM though.

LynetteScavo · 14/09/2010 21:00

cyb, shall I be Shirley or Pepsi? (I don't look like either) And Maybe Heather from EastEnders can join us.

PaulineCampbellJones · 14/09/2010 21:01

I'm sure he is mortified he crashed into snappy snaps and not Harrods. But I think he needed a shock before he killed someone or himself.

Lizzylou · 14/09/2010 21:01

I'll be Shirley, puffball dress at the ready (and then I could finally sleep with Martin Kemp Envy).

GM's predicament puts me in mind of Winona Ryder, a sort of "let's see how far I can push it" thing.

cyb · 14/09/2010 21:02

I agree btw, prison a total waste of time. SOmeone on Twitter said 'Hang on, a bloke who like meaningless sex, cannabis and prescription drugs is being sent to jail AS A PUNISHMENT!' which made me laugh

sharbie · 14/09/2010 22:46

he sounds like he's in denial maybe this will shock him into quitting?about time imo.

cyb · 14/09/2010 22:48

nah, he'll never quit

sharbie · 14/09/2010 22:52

shame tho innit - his career is pretty much static/over now and he's looking his age isn't he?
