At least she has admitted she has problems. It may be the case that she realises it's not in her son's best interests to stay with her, which is a very brave thing to own up to. Good on her, if this is the case.

I don't think it's sad at all. SHE has the space to recover, the child gets raised by someone capable. It's a good outcome for a bad situation IMHO.
