So why do it.

It's a lot of money to spend on nothing (like smoking)

Oh ok. That brings up another question then. How is this normalised?! You're having drinks or something and someone just offers you some coke and your reaction is just to say 'oh yeah, why not' rather than being horrified and running a mile?

You don’t have to drink every day to have a problem with alcohol. The fact that when you drink you then engage in other dangerous behaviours suggests you do have a problem.

The old stereotype of alcoholics drinking bottles of cheap cider on park benches is just that - an old stereotype. Yes, some people still do that, but alcoholism is on a spectrum. You’d be really surprised how some alcoholics can function and you’d have no idea about their drinking habits.

I’m not saying you’re an alcoholic, but you are potentially a problematic drinker.

Nearly all my mates who do it 'recreationally' ie maybe a gram or 2 a weekend have noticed some damage over the years.

I actually feel sorry for you Op. I think you are trying to convince yourself you're not addicted, but if that's the case, why do you continue to use it on a regular basis? Are you depressed? Are you lacking confidence and feel you need it when socializing? I read somewhere that users even get the feeling of euphoria just at the THOUGHT of taking it, rather than actually doing it.

Too often drug users, particularly those boasting online, really just don’t understand this. They say they do, but I think they need to see it to believe it.

Maybe the Op has been given food for thought with this thread, and is now realising the enormity of her situation.
