My sibling is a celebrity AMA

I won’t be saying who they are.

I recently spoke to a friend about it who
had lots of questions which lead to an interesting conversation, things I’d never said or thought about before.

When I was younger I used to feel incredibly jealous of them and had a very short and unsuccessful attempt at creating my own fame.

Now I’m older with my own dc and have seen the effects up close I definitely think the negatives out way the positives and it’s not something I would ever want for my children.

I think people imagine there’s lots of perks or that it’s exciting, there’s been nice experiences but I would have found life easier if they weren't famous.

In what way?

Digerydont · Yesterday 22:00

Running the replies through Gemini 😂

I have been asking aperçu.

LivelyGreyShark · Yesterday 22:00

Did your sibling's fame cause any problems for you personally, rather than just being something you witnessed happening to them?

ToKittyornottoKitty · Yesterday 22:01

zedtree · Yesterday 22:00

Yes, we have spoken about that.

And they’re happy with you sharing that on the internet? Where everyone can run all your answers through AI and try and work it out

Robogob · Yesterday 22:01

I think your sister is Myleene Klass.

Herenowatbroad · Yesterday 22:02

zedtree · Yesterday 22:00

Yes, we have spoken about that.

You haven’t told them that you are now broadcasting what they have discussed with you privately about their unhappiness and their children suffering

Digerydont · Yesterday 22:02

Carol Vorderman?

Herenowatbroad · Yesterday 22:03

zedtree · Yesterday 17:47

They’ve been used and betrayed a lot. They’re not very happy and struggle to have any sort of life away from fame.

You say your sister would have no problem whatsoever with you posting things like this?

ToKittyornottoKitty · Yesterday 22:04

Digerydont · Yesterday 22:02

Carol Vorderman?

Are you just literally popping up every half an hour with a different random pointless guess? 😂

quaintireneofrye · Yesterday 22:04

Nigella Lawson. You're Dominic and you've always been jealous.

Quokkas · Yesterday 22:05

zedtree · Yesterday 21:54

I don’t think they would be that interested, I haven’t outed them. We are close, we speak almost daily.

Oh I’ve got it. You’re Mummy Pig’s sister!

I don't understand why the people who just want to know who the celebrity is, or play a guessing games where the OP gives clues, don't just leave the thread. That's not what this is about, it's about the experience of someone close to you being famous, it really doesn't matter who it is - a name won't change anything. I'd like to know how your life changed when your sibling got famous - did lots change for you or was your life basically the same? I'd also like to know if your sibling changed when they got famous, and if it was a permanent change. For context, I had a good friend who was suddenly very famous in our early 20s (think on tv several times a week) and she suddenly went very distant - we'd been friends since primary, and she didn't exactly cut me off, but she definitely went quiet and was all about her new famous friends. However, she sort of 'came back' about a decade later, when she was more jaded by fame (and a lot less interested in it). I'd like to know if that was a common trajectory.

It’s clearly not Colleen. I don’t think she even has a job.

Error404FucksNotFound · Yesterday 22:08

Are they traditionally famous, like tv presenters for example or are they part of the wave of influencers who found fame through the Internet? Has fame changed their personality?

Beryl92 · Yesterday 22:09

I am sort of curious about finances too - if she's a lot richer than you how does that work out for the family as a whole? Is it weird? With my friend I was surprised that the pay she received didn't really match up to the level of fame immediately (maybe later on) - so there was a period when she was super famous but not actually that wealthy

@Beryl92- yes, but it's impossible to gauge and have a meaningful discussion, because there's quite a difference if the sibling is Nigella Lawson or Les Dennis or David Attenborough or the weatherman on Granada news. Everyone is just asking questions which can only have the broadest of answers.

Bedhead1234 · Yesterday 22:12

Do they do a lot of interviews? Do you think they are generally truthful or not very self aware? Have they been ripped of / betrayed by bizness managers/ assistants? Have they struggled with drink / drugs

What changes would you like to see them make in personal life or professional?

Do they freebies and material perks ?

Are you concerned about their mental health or financial long term stability?

Is there any ex partners you'd wish they'd stayed with ?

Do you good presents from them? Thoughtful or expensive?

ItsGettingHotInHerre · Yesterday 22:12

As someone also close to several celebs, it absolutely definitely makes me not want to be famous! They get bothered walking down the street, people stare at them, people shout abuse at them sometimes. They go for a quiet drink on their own in the pub and get cornered. People asking for selfies. I imagine some people might say 'well boo hoo they chose to be famous'. But I don't think people really know what being famous actually entails. One of the celebs is in therapy because of trust issues about being betrayed. I think people only think of the good bits and don't realise the bad bits.

I have a feeling your sister is Amanda Holden hmmm

Do you both still live in the town you grew up? Does your sibling have friends from before they became famous?

Edited

I was a child and still living with mum and dad, they were a young adult and would have been moved out anyway so my life stayed the same.

I think it would have been natural for us not to be super close at those ages because of our age gap so not necessarily their fame that distanced us. Fame has definitely changed them but I don’t know how they would have been without it so can’t really say how it has. They lost and cut off lots of friends to start with but I don’t know the full motivations behind why. That was good of you to let her come back though.

She's said the person would be well known to most people in the uk. So that could be a soap star or a pop star or a newsreader or a minor royal - either way the experience of having a sibling become famous is what the AMA is about, it's not about the celebrity themselves. For all the questions I can think of (how did that feel, were you affected, did it change your relationships, did it change your opinion of the media, what is it like now, does it ever feel normal) the actual identity of the celebrity makes no difference. Anyway, those are the parameters that are set, if you don't like them, just don't engage further.
