For privacy reasons I will not explain exactly how much my husband earns, but I will say he earns over 150k a year due to taking over his family buisness. I also will not mention what his buisness is due to that being identifying information obviously.

Me and my husband have 2 children.

This post is more for people to ask about lifestyle, work-life balance, etc

As much as £150k is a lot of money, and much more than I can dream of earning, in the grand scheme of things if that’s your family take home each year, it’s not that high. Soz.

Cheeseandolivesplease · 23/07/2026 23:46

@randomlife1980 Do you earn your own money?

Chica1990 · 23/07/2026 23:47

How did you meet?

SometimesThingsHappen · 23/07/2026 23:48

Are you in paid employment? If not, why not? He owns a business. That means if you get divorced he can claim it's not making any money and he can't possibly pay you child support.

Not at the moment

Same. Didn’t realise it was so interesting a topic that people would want to ask questions though!

imisscashmere · 23/07/2026 23:51

I’m baffled anybody would find this interesting. We have a much higher income and I wouldn’t dream of starting an AMA 😂

How did you meet?

We met at a friend's birthday party actually. My friends 20th birthday party, she invited her friends and told them to invite their friends. So there was like 100 people there (100 people may be an exaggeration 😭)

I don’t think anyone does, OP just wants to brag.

Namechangedforthis25 · 23/07/2026 23:53

I’m not sure I get it tbh

im working class, a woman and am a high earner (earning significantly more than that) - alongside my other half

£150k is great - but I don’t know why your situation warrants an AMA. I wouldn’t have thought of doing one - many people I know in London earn this

Also if you are not working, then not sure what you can offer in terms of advice on work life balance? My husband and I really struggle with that because we are both working long hours with kids…

Thistooshallpass. · 23/07/2026 23:53

And ? This is quite normal ? Plenty of people marry from different backgrounds .
And £150k whilst a good sum is not life changing high earning - especially in the south of England .

randomlife1980 · 23/07/2026 23:53

Cantwaitforwinter · 23/07/2026 23:51

Why?

My kids are really young, I can afford to stay home with them right now

OP posts:
Cheeseandolivesplease · 23/07/2026 23:54

@Cantwaitforwinter I personally don't find being financially dependent upon a man anything to brag about. Naive yes, enviable no.

Cheeseandolivesplease · 23/07/2026 23:55

@randomlife1980 What was your job before you married and do you intend to return to it?

YoQuieroVino · 23/07/2026 23:55

I came from a working class family, my mum was a cleaner and my dad was out of work due to disability. I married a high earner, approx £200k a year. I now earn £120k. I’m a little bit baffled as to why anyone would think this was an interesting topic to ask questions about!

SuddenLull · 23/07/2026 23:55

DH earns that, and he’s working-class. His dad and granddad were both bin men. I’m WC too, but I have a professional job. It hasn’t occurred to me that either of us was worthy of an AMA. We have exactly the same issues with work-life balance as anyone else.

What industry does your high earning husband work in?

SunBurgess · 23/07/2026 23:57

Cantwaitforwinter · 23/07/2026 23:52

I don’t think anyone does, OP just wants to brag.

But it’s not much to brag about. Our joint income is significantly higher (close to seven figures) and I would never think of starting an AMA for discuss our lifestyle as it’s not very interesting (we work, and we go on holiday with the limited annual leave we have!). I’m not sure what people would even want to know about OP’s situation.

How's your pension forecast looking for yourself?

Cantwaitforwinter · 24/07/2026 00:00

You should have titled this “my husband works hard, I’m a SAHM like 58% of couples with children”
Although there’s not really anything to ask because it’s nothing special.

My partner is a SAHD, I work full time ish, my wage is significantly less than your husbands. Maybe I should start an AMA

Completely agree.

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 24/07/2026 00:02

£150k household income is good but I’m not sure it’s mega high compared to a lot of people. I thought he would be on millions or something.

I’m not sure what to ask. Do you wish you had a career for your own financial security?

Travelfairy · 24/07/2026 00:03

I dont think £150k is considered a high earner these days especially if just a one income household. Depends on a lot of factors though...my DH earns more than that but we still have to budget and watch what we spend to afford holidays etc
I dont really have any questions but I wish you well OP, it sounds like your quality of life has improved

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 24/07/2026 00:06

This is MumsNet

Lots of couples earn that on here, the wife as well as the husband
There are also wives that earn more than their husband.

Generally these people have done it through their own hard work and / or qualifications.

Not taking over daddy's business to do so.

Equally lots of couples earn min wage, the wife as well as the husband .
also many people are unable to work due to ill health / disabilities / their children's health.

Just make sure you are paying your national Insurance for x years so you are entitled to your state pension, this I believe can be done by receiving child benefit.

and get him to pay into a private pension for you whilst you are not working

you may need it one day.
