I think you sound a nice person OP, we share some similar interests. But I wonder if you will become or already are quite sheltered and naive about everyday life having been rich for most of your adult life.

Do you feel awkward around the local community when visiting your holiday home, knowing that most locals dislike second home owners? Or do you tend to avoid talking to the IOW locals?

I can’t believe how bitter and spiteful so many of the posters on this thread are. It is completely unnecessary

They think it is their £2.38 because it’s shared, and widely miss that that’s because their husband shares it with them.

Personally I’d find absolutely no pride in buying a house outright, using money that’s come out of a hose that my ex husband bought without any financial input from me.

I’d feel like I’d never earned or really owned anything.

Being “kept” is my idea of actual hell.

I have access to a joint account and credit card, so even though it's technically his money it's treated as our money. Funds should be shared in a marriage regardless of whether both are working or not in my opinion.

Big purchases are joint decisions. I wouldn't have quit work if I felt he was the type of man to use money as a weapon like some rich men do.

Yes but tend to leave it there so we still get ferries. They are fairly reliable.

Not many people enjoy an evening discussing their job or listening to anyone discussing theirs. In our circle it would be considered rude. I'm sure the OP has plenty of interests she can discuss.

Because if you do, I have news for you about your conversation possibly being not as interesting as you think (and I say that as someone who spent quite a long time as a lawyer in a US firm).

The settlement and splitting of assests would mean I would be financially secure.

I enjoyed rising to a good level in my career and helping to mentor others
It is natural to talk about your outside interactions in a couple, cannot think what I would say if it was instead of "got a Belgian trade mission coming in next week" it was "I cleaned out that cupboard today"
