Ask me anything.

OP posts:

It’s not the ones who think she’s not rich who are jealous is it.

I don’t think she’s genuine anyway that’s why she left - she certainly hasn’t a scoobies about property development.

Well considering it isn’t her who works in it, why would she?

Differentforgirls · 07/03/2026 23:12

Jasmin71 · 07/03/2026 21:38

Do you ever donate to charity or contribute time to other people in your community. Do you volunteer for anything?

Why do you think she should?

alondonerabroad · 07/03/2026 23:22

Do you ever worry about what you would do should the worst happen? Are you confident he wouldn’t leave you high and dry financially and claim you hadn’t contributed anything to the house/property?
Sorry, intrusive question but Mumsnet always insists people have a fck off fund/secret bank account partner doesn’t know about. Especially if you don’t work. Do you have one?

hoxtonbabe · 07/03/2026 23:45

Hootersoutsidemywindow · 06/03/2026 15:48

What does your husband do? I wouldn't say that's classed as rich nowadays.

I thought this too. 600k isn’t rich ( well not in London) that’s nice and comfortable middle class, rich to me is when you are sitting on millions,

Equally a 4 bedroom Victorian terraced house with a not so big garden can easily start at 1.5mil in my high poverty/crime London borough.

etcher70 · 07/03/2026 23:50

Given your lucky position in life, do you ever feel you'd like to help people less well off than you?

Aluna · 07/03/2026 23:51

Differentforgirls · 07/03/2026 23:11

Well considering it isn’t her who works in it, why would she?

If he really did her narrative would be convincing. She didn’t know enough to concoct a plausible scenario.

I feel sorry for the OP. I was interested in her life. Shame the whole thread got derailed by people claiming she is actually poor, can only talk about housework, lives with a controlling husband, and that they are richer than her. Talk about projection.

There are married couples who bring in about £30k between them and pay rent/ mortgage but, apparently, should think £600k is akin to being as poor as a dormouse.

How the other half live their miserable lives which seem to be scoring points on an Internet forum.

As Billy Connelly would say, “they are more to be pitied than scolded”.

Sad bastards.

You've leaned into inventive hyperbole to make your point, but as other posters have pointed out, 600k, in London (usually), at certain levels and within certain areas/industries, in 2026 is not THAT exceptional.

Of course it's a lot of money and soars well above the average, but the people here saying it's not 'rich rich' have usually explained their point of reference.

SquirrelMadness · 08/03/2026 00:15

BillieWiper · 07/03/2026 16:48

Yeah I was talking about the one I knew more closely. I believe them both though. One might have inherited it but I think they just both bought aons ago and never had much money bar that.

So you know two people who made enough money to buy a £2.5 mil house and pay off the mortgage, but now earn so little they claim UC? How? Did they lose high paying jobs? They paid off the mortgage but didn't put anything in savings? Couldn't they remortgage and release equity to give themselves something to live off while they look for another job? Or rent out a room in their house or something?

And what's your point in relation to this thread anyway? It seems like a weird loophole to me, that someone can be eligible for UC despite being so asset rich. Surely they have other options.

answersonly · 08/03/2026 00:42

Curious how many people, other than me, headed off to rightmove to see what £2-2.5 million buys in their neighbourhood?

GreatName · 08/03/2026 02:49

Really interesting thread. I was on OPs side all the way until she mentioned voting for the Tories and then not answering the reform/greens question. Not giving to charity with such wealth is unacceptable IMO. Overall she has a great sense of humour that has come across on this thread, but sounds like a selfish twat who would probably walk past a homeless person without offering a quid. Sounds like she only wants to help out those that she deems worthy (her own family and friends) and not anyone else in genuine need.

I've noticed that many teachers struggle to spell these days. It's barely, nor bearly.....🤦🏻‍♀️
Sorry...I don't want to sound unkind but it's one of my bugbears.... hopefully it was just an accidental slip on your keyboard.
One of my DD's primary school teachers would always get your and you're mixed up!
High school teachers aren't on a too bad salary imo though 🤔 I'm an FE teacher and that really is crappy pay....

Who cares how much a house is in London?

10 million people who live in London?

To be fair the OP mentioned several times supporting just giving threads for people in need.

Our street of £2m+ semi detached houses is about 50% young families and 50% boomers who - just as you say - bought before house prices wildly outstripped earnings. The young families seem to be mainly finance / law - there are a few more arty ones, and I often wonder if there's some family input there. We didn't have any gifting / inheritance - but we are working in very high paying jobs, and - being brutally honest - have prioritised career success and financial security to the detriment of many other more important things.

I guess as boomers downsize or pass away, their adult children will then be able to afford their own £2m semis. What a shitty shitty system we've created.

Absolutely this. My PIL have a 4 bedroom house in Herts, bought 50 years ago for about £30k. It's now worth £900k. That's just how it is, and my DH and his brother, if very blessed with the inheritance, will be lucky enough to benefit from their parents' good fortune.

We're not expecting anything but will be extremely grateful if we do get anything. I agree it is a shitty system and it's not fair for those who have no family inheritance to potentially pay for the next generation.

None. We are more gifters to friends and family.

Really? Charitable donations deliver decent tax breaks apart from the obvious. If course the downside is that you can't use it as a club to beat the recipient with

That's his annual income ( top 1%) I not their 'savings pot'. Av. London Income P.A. is 50K, nationally 39K. The OPs DH takes home 29K PCM. Nonetheless it's a graceless flex she's doing here..

10 million people who live in London?

I doubt they all care.

Nowpause · 08/03/2026 15:18

Didn’t privately educate because wanted sons to rub shoulders with normal folk?

That’s the kind of thinking from someone who can’t afford private but convinces themselves that they wouldn’t privately educate anyway. No way do I think a family that hole themselves away in a Victorian manor (for bargain basement price!) would then want their children to go to state to mingle with normal folk. If you genuinely thought this… you wouldn’t completely separate yourself and kids off from any kind of local community by living in a rural Manor House

FrankiegoestoHolyhead · 08/03/2026 16:10

How do you diagnose normocalcaemic hyperparathyroidism?

On the PTH level presumably…

Curious0yster · 08/03/2026 23:01

OP, I have enjoyed reading your posts, but the hostility it has attracted is most bizarre! Does this ever happen in real life? Your life sounds lovely - especially as you enjoy and treasure it so much.
