Ask me anything.

OP posts:

50 percent nastiness and 50 percent jealousy.

Why can't it be that some posters think calling yourself a 'rich housewife' isn't what a lot of women either admire or would want to position themselves as. Even if they were wealthy.

And maybe people who work don't think a housewife life sounds sufficiently interesting to require an AMA?

I certainly bear someone no ill will by saying that having a 2 million pound house doesn't make you rich in many places.

But they sounded somewhat smug in their OP so they're getting a few catty responses. Which seems par for the course.

It's an AMA and she hasn't answered half the questions.

This probably isn’t as uncommon as you’d think.

My partners ex wife owns a £1.5m property outright - her parents bought her it after she divorced. She drives a brand new car that they also bought. Her bills are paid, and she claims UC for “spends.” Free prescriptions etc etc.

She has access to money, but none in her own account and no savings in her name, because rich people aren’t stupid.

Blimey. I think somewhere someone’s been had for the state to pick up this tab.

Yep. Apparently it’s because she intended to be a SAHW, so when they divorced her parents supported her to just be a … stay at home.

I'm neither. It's just difficult to understand why someone with no financial constraints, dependent children or caring responsibilities spends most of her time doing housework.

The thing is I know people who have 2.5 million pound houses and live on UC. It's just that in some places that is literally just a regular house.

Stop it. You know people, plural, who own £2.5M properties outright and claim UC? Utter garbage.
Even in London 2.5M is not “just a regular house”.

Because it’s her time!

Around 673,143 homes in Great Britain valued at £1 million or more.

So roughly 1 in 45 homeowners in the country owns property worth at least a million; and around 1 in 190 owns a home worth over £2 million.

And? The conversation was properties over 2 million, and how “millions of people” live in them, which is incredibly false.

The upper estimate for properties liable for the 2M mansion tax is only 150k. A far cry off “millions of people”.

So I'm lying? Why would I make this up? I'm talking about the area I grew up in. What do you know more about it than I do? Why would I invent the people I know who own property and are also on benefits?

You're the one that's 'utter garbage' for making assumptions about people lying for no reason other than your own prejudice.

Her parents picking everything up is one thing but the taxpayer? It sounds like she’s scamming the system.

No, she’s on LCWRA, I believe for MH reasons.

She largely goes to the local country club, plays padel tennis and goes for coffee.

paloma7 · 07/03/2026 15:38

The OP is not at all bothered about snippy remarks because this is precisely why she posted. AMA is an attention-seeking forum.

Anyone who is a SAHM or wealthy knows full well the reaction they will get on MN! You certainly wouldn't come on stating the value of your house or your DH's income etc. A bit crass?

The insight you have in to your partner’s ex wife’s lifestyle and finances is quite striking

OP didn't say "I'm a rich housewife you want to be like me"
No one needs to admire her. I don't. She does not however deserve the arsey responses. It leans ridiculous tbh.

I live in north London. Apparently 2M is standard pricing here and in the South East. In my experience, it really isn't but maybe we live in the butt end of the capital. Some of the maths upthread is also dodgy with regards to the number of houses in the 1M and 2M bracket. Given population numbers for the UK is ~69 Million. This thread has brought me lots of entertainment/lol moments.

goz · 07/03/2026 15:40

Pretending to look for work and signing on for a paltry £500 month when apparently your parents have enough money to have gifted you millions of pounds is actually comical.

And yet how many posters have been tripping over themselves to spit out they earn more and live in a more expensive house?

Yeah that's fair enough. I wasn't trying to be mean to her and I'm sorry if it looked that way. But as you say in areas like N London you just can end up with people who are millionaires through their modest home they bought years ago. Very lucky of course. But the 2 million house thing just stuck out to me.

I’d love to tell you it’s because I’m in anyway interested.

But really it’s because until a few years ago they shared a child, who has since come to us full time.

There are lots of complex reasons for that, so that’s not actually something I judge her for, but before that happened the two households were very intertwined and she was very vocal/braggy about the lifestyle she had outside of parenting.

Well many people in MN will indeed wonder why the OP feels her situation is worthy of an AMA? For most 'rich housewives' or people in general, the last thing you would feel the need to do is post your financial details as if these are something to be marvelled at on the internet. The £600k salary doesn't make sense anyway, if the DH is self-employed.

Population numbers has nothing to do with number of homeowners.

Total homeowners in U.K. = around 17 million.

Number of UK households ~29 million - hopefully this holds most of the population.
