Ask me anything.

OP posts:

You don’t sound rich OP, you sound comfortable. I live in London so that may have skewed my idea of what rich is to some people though.

If 600k PA is merely comfortable is everyone on less than 300k poor?

I think Lincolnshire is probably among the areas with the lowest house prices in the UK? So £2m would get you a lot more for your money than in the SE or London. Lincolnshire also had one of highest Brexit votes - people in places like Boston were particularly threatened by 'immigrants taking our jobs' yadda yadda yadda because a large factor in the economy around there is food processing etc - aka jobs British people don't want to do. Hence high unemployment, exacerbated by lack of investment in this area. So I can see how if you have a bit of money round there, you would indeed feel especially loaded and 'different.' Whereas in many parts of London, you would have a very different perception of 'rich.' It's all relative and this thread really highlights the inequalities that persist across the U.K.

Edited

Could you sound anymore patronising. I think you think posting this makes you sound cosmopolitan and 'in the know' but it's one of those posts that really doesn't communicate what you think it does, but it certainly tells us a lot about you. Your desperation to align yourself with 'rich londoners' is palpable.

Nothing fancy. Office work at a hospital.

How is office admin work at a hospital regarded corporate work? Because I don't have to and never enjoyed the corporate world when I was a part of it. Quitting was one of the best days of my life.

I think if people realised how ‘rich’ some were they’d be a revolution.

OP, I say go you!

Absolutely this!

It’s true, though. I noted her saying she hadn’t enjoyed the corporate world, thought ‘Fair enough’ and then saw her saying she’d worked in hospital admin, which is about as far from the corporate world as you can get. It seems a very slight basis to dismiss the entire professional world outside the home on, especially when the OP is in the fortunate position of having the money and leisure to train for any form of meaningful work.

Genuinely LOLing at the idea that many corporate jobs are meaningful work.

Ok not aligning myself with anyone. Just noticing how people live in their own bubbles

This

Do you really think that people don't understand that there are many stratas of rich/wealthy. By Bezos/Musk standards practically the entire world is poor, doesn't mean that Jim Ratcliffe is not wealthy, just because Jeff Bezos is wealthier,

No one is saying 600k makes you the richest person in the world but there really aren’t that many people in earning more compared to the general population that and it’s total nonsense to claim there is.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/03/2026 11:04

"You make it sound like the OP achieves nothing."

But also, why do we have to 'achieve something'. We're not all high achievers. I work, but haven't achieved anything except keeping my job. Plenty of people just go about their lives.

£2M mortgage free home.
Water front holiday home on the IOW.
2 Mercedes.
DH earns £600k pa.

Does he give you full access to the bank accounts? Do you ever feel there is an imbalance in your partnership? My ex once earned around £350k but there was a big imbalance in power. I probably would have been happier with a milkman or postman, but a lot of that was down to the fact he’s not a team player.

I agree. Sometimes just being able to conduct a happy relationship is a big achievement.

didmt you say you didn’t like or enjoy the corporate world when you were in it but then later on you mentioned you worked as hospital admin.

I wouldn’t class hospital admin as corporate!

It might as well be, the amount of office politics, bullying and top band managers creaming all the money.

This is where I would live if I lived in Lincoln 😍

Well I would definitely feel rich living there! (Not my style as I like small, cosy houses but it is very luxurious).

Absolutely! How many people on this thread are going to cure cancer or prevent a war or stop climate change etc. IMO just being nice to people and bringing a bit of happiness into the lives of others is more realistic.

greenrabbit100 · 07/03/2026 11:33

Still not getting what OP thought she was offering with this thread. I’m not against hearing about lavish lifestyles, but OP has said nothing remarkable that’s different to other women who choose not to work. Gardening, cleaning, pets, family visits, one-off donations to charity, not extravagant holidays, kids in state school. Second home and yacht yes a bit unusual.

The £2m mortgage free home I suspect was bought a while back when prices were cheaper, and it was somewhere that needed some work which obviously DH could do. Not sure the £600k pa is actually correct in the sense of a salary, given savings are only £170k. Possibly a lot of the £600k profit is ploughed back into the business. It doesn’t sound like this is the realm of children and grand children set up for life.

You sound like you have a pleasant life that suits you OP, and you obviously are comfortably off, just not getting why you made the thread.

paloma7 · 07/03/2026 11:34

The des res house in Lincolnshire for 1,250,000 or a basic semi in Surrey for the same price or a 2 bed flat over a shop in central London? Where would you live?

I knew what you meant.

My ex in laws live in Surrey, in a £2m house. It’s nice, but it’s not a mansion.

I’m originally from Teesside and could buy the biggest house in the area for £2m, with change.

£600k in Teesside would be hugely affluent, £600k in the SE would probably feel like pocket change comparatively.

Doesn't it just! All the posters being so spiteful or passive agressive on yhis thread. We. See. You.

And it's really not a good look.
