Ask me anything.

Has there been anything that has surprised you about having money? I like to daydream about winning the lottery but I do sometimes wonder if there are things we don't know about becoming wealthy - good or bad!

Edictfromno10 · 06/03/2026 19:46

Can you go to the garden centre and just buy any plants etc you want?

I want to give you a hug @Edictfromno10 for that question

Wtfdoidoplease · 06/03/2026 19:48

You sound like a nice person. My question is: how do you vote?

And, having grown up working class, has anyone made you feel like you’re letting the side down, or has everyone been supportive?

goz · 06/03/2026 19:49

FatCatSkinnyRat · 06/03/2026 19:42

Exactly. Or maybe the question is more - does your husband get bored of your inane convo about housework and cooking? Would you not like a mentally stimulating job to give you something to talk about?

Do you only ever talk about work, housework and cooking?
You must be incredibly small minded to think the only think a woman can discuss outside of work is housework and cooking.

Sorry you're bored but this is not an interesting subject.

I’ve asked the voting question twice, and suspect I know the answer…

I love a AMA however this feels so cringe. You claim to be super rich however you're passing your time on here.

If I were rich, I would not be on here to pass the time.

So genuine question, what are you missing in life?

That’s a bit of a low opinion of Mumsnetters!
I don’t see that being rich means people aren’t interested in doing the same things ( including scrolling on Mumsnet) as anyone else really.

ForBlueKoala · 06/03/2026 19:53

Have you got anything going for you when he eventually cheats and leaves when you’re past your best?

🤣

Mamascoven · 06/03/2026 19:55

Sounds lovely, I don't know why people are so bitter. I'm a housewife too, but a poor one I suppose haha. I'm probably as happy as you though despite having not much money. My happiness is my family's health and our small but very cosy home. Life is what you make it I suppose!

Interesting post. May I ask a couple of questions please;

Would you say you spoil your children?

Do you worry about their future?

How much would you typically spend on a 2 week summer holiday?

Bet you have a beautiful garden 😁

I guess they are spoiled as they get video games etc when they want rather than having to wait for birthdays or Christmas like DH and I had to. I wouldn't say they are spoiled rotten and they aren't particularly materialistic, they like tech, like most teen boys.

I sometimes worry about disingenuous intentions in their future partners, but we can't do anything about that.

£12k.

Thanks, I love my garden.

to be fair being rich could mean so many things in spirit, family, health, job satisfaction, number of cats or dogs owned- so what is it or are you just defined by stuff?

Property developer.

Not being unkind, but I am not convinced that the outlook for the sector is particularly positive…

Op what was your corporate job?

Ik you’re getting loads of flack but this interests me.

Nothing fancy. Office work at a hospital.

During one limited time off work specifically to care for your young baby you felt sad to not be in work?
Do you struggle on the weekends?
Do you go to bed at night wishing for the next day so you can be back at your desk?

What is utterly depressing is the number of posters who seem to have no desire or drive for life outside of the time they are contracted to do a paid job!

No - I love weekends. I do sometimes go to bed thinking of all the things I want to achieve. I work in a creative arts type role and I'm successful/high earning in that space. I love it - I would do the creative work even if no one paid me to do it because I love it so much. I also meet such interesting/creative people every day.

I don't mind weeks or even a month off work. But I took long maternity leaves - 13 months with my annual leave added in - and I missed my creative outlet so much and the social life of working. I can't imagine a world where all I have to do each day is clean my house, like the OP, and I definitely wouldn't choose that life.

Having temped in admin at a hospital I found it wasn’t glamourous at all so not surprised you left when you could.

Edited

The OP hasn’t said that all she has to do all day is clean the house!

Do you and your husband have a plan to entrench your wealth so that is intergenerational? Or are you happy for your grandchildren and their grandchildren to make their own way? If you do have a plan, what is it?

I believe the boys will be wealthy enough that their children won't have to worry for money after inheritance. What happens from there is anyone's guess. I would like to think we have imparted responsible behaviours that will pass on, but we don't specifically plan for intergenerational wealth, we believe that the boys should go out into the real world and work in the way that DH and I both did. Nepotism isn't something I look favourably on.

Not if they want to live down south!

Bang on. OP isn’t rich, and certainly has no class. A £2m house and second home (mortgaged) on IoW does not pass muster.

I didn't say it was mortgaged.
