I think you sound a nice person OP, we share some similar interests. But I wonder if you will become or already are quite sheltered and naive about everyday life having been rich for most of your adult life.

Do you feel awkward around the local community when visiting your holiday home, knowing that most locals dislike second home owners? Or do you tend to avoid talking to the IOW locals?

Thanks. I think I'm quite aware of the struggles of everyday life as I see it with friends and family. I also grew up quite poor so I understand what living pay cheque to pay cheque feels like. The cost of living being what it is, I appreciate people are struggling to buy groceries, it's disgusting what a carrier bag of food costs these days.

Locals dislike second home owners for good reason, but it is often locals selling their properties to outsiders so that makes them responsible in a way too. I don't feel too awkward as our holiday home was a new build specifically targeting our type of custom and in the price range that most people on the island couldn't have afforded anyway, so I don't feel like we stole a family home if you see what I mean. The neighbours are also second home owners so we can be a bunch of wankers together without too much judgement.

Ball ache to get to the IOW regularly!

explains the paltry £2 mil for a Manor House though!

Why are you such a snob?

BestBefore2000 · 06/03/2026 17:14

Have you ever earned your own money?

Yes.

will you help pay towards me being able to get the electric wheelchair I need?

ProcrastinatorsAnonymous · 06/03/2026 19:22

To the nearest £10k, how much did you give to charity in the previous tax year?

Who did you vote for in the last gen election?

Kind of, it's a small island nearer to Portsmouth.
Yes he's their dad.

How dare you! It's nearer to Southampton and Lymington!

I usually spend the first few days of the week cleaning the house which is quite a task. I do lots of gardening. I like cooking. I visit family. Go to the odd appointment, I've recently started having laser hair removal sessions on my legs, pits and pubes. 😅Sometimes I just have a lazy day a binge Netflix.

2 boys who are late teens. I think they have massively benefitted from me being home so I don't think they view housewives in anything but a positive light.

I would be ok in the event of divorce.

He works from home the majority of the time so we spend lots of time together.

No. All of my friends are working class girls as was I, so I like to treat them when we get together.

Money doesn’t change your class. You keep referring to having once been working class but I reckon you still are.

What sort of modifications

She chose a specific leather for the interior which was done in the factory. No idea what the mechanic did? My DB did tell me but it was just meaningless words.

Snob? Oh calm down 😁

Daftypants · 06/03/2026 19:29

Sounds like a nice life , not excessive.
Do you ever hesitate before spending any money just on yourself ?

I was about to say that. If OP was seriously rich she’d have a house in the Bishops Avenue.

She might not want to live there. I think the houses there look like glorified Barrett homes.

Not really on to ask. Imagine there are plenty of people needing help but I don't think that's what this thread is about..

imisscashmere · 06/03/2026 19:02

I guess I think that being rich means spending money on frivolous stuff all the time (like x2 100k cars, a holiday home…) which we don’t do. I’m not sure how high our income would have to be before we started doing that.

If you don’t spend your £650k plus income on anything other than the basics you must have loads of it in savings, you can’t be that out of touch to think hundreds of thousands of pounds in income and savings means you’re barely comfortable?

Breadcat24 · 06/03/2026 19:30

@Arraminta It is about poverty and nutrition. Sorry you think that so boring that no-one should spend their time on it

Following with interested as we basically have the same life.

What skin care products do you use?

Do you have a monthly ‘allowance’?

What hotels abroad would you recommend?

What’s the most you’ve spent on a holiday?

What’s the square footage of your house?

Edited

Retinol serum. I do get botox.

No, we have a joint account and credit card account.

I love history so we tend to stay in suites at Hand Picked Hotels.

We hire villas when we go abroad so I can't really recommend any hotels.

£10k for a week in France.

11,000.

OP posts:
Eufyon · 06/03/2026 19:33

11000 square foot for just £2million??

mind blowing

HotRootsAndNaughtyToots · 06/03/2026 19:35

Everlil · 06/03/2026 15:53

Why the IOW?! I’m not sure I’ve been anywhere so dull. If you had a bit more disposable income, would you have picked somewhere a bit nicer to have a holiday home?

I'd love a holiday home on the IOW, it's a beautiful peaceful place. But then it's where my family is from so it will always be home to me

Iho · 06/03/2026 19:36

muggart · 06/03/2026 17:27

why do you find rich people insufferable?!

To elaborate, those born into wealth can be irritating in their ignorance of normal life for the majority.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed with managing a large house etc and maintaining the trappings of wealth?

Do you get bored?

Do you get fed up of being judged for having so much?

Do you find yourself gravitating towards people with a similar lifestyle?

sorry this is hilarious she likely lives in a reasonable sized house somewhere in the south: 4 beds and a couple of bathrooms. She’s not having to manage an estate and grounds 😂

8 bedrooms and 11,000 sqft is fairly extensive IMHO

FatCatSkinnyRat · 06/03/2026 19:42

Lordofmyflies · 06/03/2026 17:49

Do you not get bored OP? I mean mental stimulation? How do you substitute the growth and satisfaction which comes from developing your skills and enhancing your career?

Exactly. Or maybe the question is more - does your husband get bored of your inane convo about housework and cooking? Would you not like a mentally stimulating job to give you something to talk about?

DancingNotDrowning · 06/03/2026 19:42

Ok 11k sq ft for £2m - where on earth do you live?

I lived in a 7k sq ft home a few years back and we downsized - it was too much for where we were and what we needed. We had 6 bedrooms, all ensuite with walk in wardrobes, 5 reception rooms, staff accommodation gym, offices etc etc

What is your favourite random/interesting room? You know the one no one else has and is slightly redundant but brings you joy.

NunsOnTheRum · 06/03/2026 19:44

Sheila Bloom?

He is a property developer.

The security of it is the best part. Fuck the handbags, of course they are nice, but the most important thing is not having t worry. In fact I don't think there are many more things as stressful as wondering how much you might have left after paying the bills. I know how my parents struggled.

I have picked up more expensive hobbies as a result of surplus money but we don't spend the half of it really.

Edited

Thanks.

I'll send you my bank details. 😉
