This thread is totally fascinating to me. I’m also a SAHM, our household income is higher than OP’s but our lives are very different and I don’t consider us to be “rich” at all 😅

You don’t believe being in the top 0.1% of earnings makes you rich?

You’re just in the poor squeezed middle with a lowly income of 17x the national average.

£2M mortgage free home.
Water front holiday home on the IOW.
2 Mercedes.
DH earns £600k pa.

Where on the IOW?

Rewmin · 06/03/2026 18:54

Does your DH have a good pension fund?

Do you use a financial adviser?

Iho · 06/03/2026 18:55

auserna · 06/03/2026 17:02

£600k? Jeez. Is he C-suite or something else like a successful actor/musician?

Do you find your life is low-stress knowing how financially secure you are?

Do you find that is more money than you can possibly spend? Or do you have very luxury tastes and hobbies?

He is a property developer.

The security of it is the best part. Fuck the handbags, of course they are nice, but the most important thing is not having t worry. In fact I don't think there are many more things as stressful as wondering how much you might have left after paying the bills. I know how my parents struggled.

I have picked up more expensive hobbies as a result of surplus money but we don't spend the half of it really.

There are Mercedes, and then there are Mercedes.

True. My SIL drives a special edition Merc that was specially modified for her in the factory in Germany and was then privately shipped to her with accompanying Merc mechanic to do final tweaks at their house.

It's another world.

What does your husband do? I wouldn't say that's classed as rich nowadays.

Oh come on, that's a huge amount, 600k every year. And wealth can accumulate when you have that much to (potentially) invest.

Is living on the Isle of Wight good all year round? I have visited a couple of times and really fancied either moving or buying a holiday home there but it struck me it might be an April-September place and the rest of the year might be quite hopeless in terms of weather and places open

It's beautiful, just don't ever get ill or need an NHS dentist.

Can you lend me a grand

Longdarkcloud · 06/03/2026 18:59

How many cats do you have?

FloofBunny · 06/03/2026 19:00

Hi OP,

I'm interested in your post.

How does it work regarding money that you get to spend? Does he give you a certain amount each month, or do you have a credit card that he pays off, or what? I often wonder this about Kate and William too!

Can you buy almost anything you want without consulting him? Like, if you fancy a piece of jewellery that's 1-2k, can you just get it?

I was married to someone with quite a lot more money and privilege than me, and he abused that power. Do you every worry about the power dynamics of being with someone who earns so much more than you?

Thank you!!

Did you have “traditional” values before you met your husband, so always aimed for SAHP life, or did he just happen to have the money for you to gratefully do so?

I would say I do have quite traditional values at heart. I didn't aim for a housewife lifestyle as I never assumed that would be a possibility. I knew I would have to work, obviously most people have to.

He set up a business that became successful and that allowed me to quit.

I guess I think that being rich means spending money on frivolous stuff all the time (like x2 100k cars, a holiday home…) which we don’t do. I’m not sure how high our income would have to be before we started doing that.

Iho · 06/03/2026 19:02

Figcherry · 06/03/2026 17:10

Do you have an accent that marks you as coming from the working classes?

What is your favourite perfume?

Yes my accent is common as muck.

I love Chanel No.5 parfum.

Do you think you will look for something outside of home now your DC are older?

Not necessarily paid work, but something that would interest you and be more meaningful than the type of job you had before?

I am sure your DS have benefited in ways, but it’s also role modelling a very traditional split of gender roles, which may not be ideal for their expectations of women and in their own relationships and families.

I would want to do something no matter my wealth and role model my contribution as a woman to society and community outside of my home, so it’s hard to relate. Being by the sea is lovely and so are Greek islands so on the same page there!

Maybe do something with your time and ‘marriage wealth’ rather than bring so egotistical that you would think that any of the answers are going to be of interest to people. Nobody will ever know if you are telling the truth - such a waste of time.

Along with most threads on MN.

Do you fancy a house swap to a 2 bed bungalow on the Scottish Borders because I used to sail when I was young, haven't been able to for years and would love a holiday! 😅

KLD89 · 06/03/2026 19:05

Im a single mom to SEN twins, in a housing association and barely keeping my head afloat.
Im going to bet we have absolutely zero in common, but here’s my question. What is the one thing you think people should invest in, if they can? Is it self care? Or maybe private health care? Paying more to eat well, ect.
What’s your no compromise, if you were to lose it all tomorrow?

Iho · 06/03/2026 19:07

PersephonePomegranate · 06/03/2026 17:10

Do you think that having money has fundamentally changed withered of you?

Do you ever worry about being replaced by a younger model in time?

I don't feel I have changed at all. My girlfriends would tell me if I had! We went through school together so I've known them almost all my life.

No. He isn't that sort of person.

I love a AMA however this feels so cringe. You claim to be super rich however you're passing your time on here.

If I were rich, I would not be on here to pass the time.

So genuine question, what are you missing in life?

Why cringe? Being mega rich does not mean loads of friends or lack of loneliness. If I was mega rich I'd spend a lot more time on Mumsnet, I find it much more enjoyable than interacting with most people.

Ball ache to get to the IOW regularly!

Mrs Morton’s iconic question to Debbie McGee. Not boring.
