What’s your house like

A Victorian manor with high ceilings and original features.

It's adorable that you consider this AMA-worthy rich.

I have to say, if I was “rich” I don’t think a Merc would be my car of choice, or at least I wouldn’t consider it representative of my “wealth.”

Someone I employ has a Merc… she’s on less than £30k.

There are Mercedes, and then there are Mercedes.

How come your kids go to state? The boys are aware it's not a good idea to make it obvious they have wealth when getting to know someone, they certainly downplayed it at school as their friends were a bit shocked when they came over for the first time.

no way would privately educated and the main ones would be a bit shocked at this fairly modest level of high wealth

How come state educated @Iho ?

Must be in the middle of nowhere then, as my semi-detached house is worth much more than this!

Guessing you live very north for a Manor House to be just £2 million.

I am outskirts of London and that wouldn’t get you anywhere close to a manor!!

MissApplejack · 06/03/2026 18:44

I don’t object to this AMA thread, I’m a right nosy parker, but gosh there are some suck ups on here 😅

She's come on here to show off her wealth (earned by her husband sucking up houses for profit as a property developer) - it's fair game.

A Victorian manor with high ceilings and original features.

My uncle once owned a Georgian mansion but it was so expensive to heat that they moved into the outhouses maybe converted stable block? They sold as soon as they could as they’d really stretched themselves mortgage wise. Plus neighbours could be snobby and they were burgled.

ProcrastinatorsAnonymous · 06/03/2026 18:45

How do you vote?

Exactly

the story is starting to crumble

plus the detail of the other kids being shocked by the house. So the children are state educated presumably

imisscashmere · 06/03/2026 18:45

This thread is totally fascinating to me. I’m also a SAHM, our household income is higher than OP’s but our lives are very different and I don’t consider us to be “rich” at all 😅

Iho · 06/03/2026 18:45

LuckyAmy1986 · 06/03/2026 17:00

you sound happy!

How big is your house? Or is it not that big but in exclusive area (or both)?

An 8 bed Victorian manor.

An 8 bed Victorian manor.

In the arse end of nowhere in an unappealing area for it be £2 mil

Wouldn’t get you anything close to that in the southeast for just £2 mil 😂

The very wealthy man I knew made his money from property development, enough to buy a house in Cheyne Walk and one in Spain (huge used to be owned by black sheep of Guinness family) and to send his 4 sons to prep schools and then Charterhouse.

It depends on the model. Both cars are £100k+

You spent more than a third of your income on two cars. Oof!

I was about to say that. If OP was seriously rich she’d have a house in the Bishops Avenue.

DH earns £600k pa.

Feel free to give me a measily 10k 🤣

I have a Merc and I'm a state school teacher! 😂

Yes. But have you ever gone into the showroom and taken collection of a brand new top of the range Mercedes you’ve paid cash for it.

How will you stop your kids from never developing a work ethic as they do not have the financial impetus to work?

(asking as most of my rich friends have adult children who do not want to work unless it is as influencer or very part time yoga instructor )

I think they are grounded as all of our family and friends are working class so they see the importance of work. Both my DH and I have instilled a good work ethic in them and this is being reflected in their exam results. I know I don't work now but I did have to at one point and I do 'work' around the house and gardens.

OP posts:
Eufyon · 06/03/2026 18:52

note the questions the op is choosing not to answer!!

state educated? Yes clearly if their peers were shocked at what is a modest high income family in the private school system

and the “manor” which cost a paltry £2 mil

and the 2x £100k plus cars… which means more than a third of total family income spent on these cars
