Absolutely they view working women positively. They have come from working class families on both sides.

I think the boys would be happy with whatever choice their future wives decide upon. I think it's nice that these women will have the option of being a SAHM if they wish to as so many women don't have the choice.

Well, they will if your children also earn well.

What if one of them pursues a career as a bin man, there’ll be no £2m house for your future daughter in laws.

Unless you/your husband provides for them into adulthood?

What's the best shopping mall you've ever been in?

I'm super boring. I online shop.

Do you not get bored OP? I mean mental stimulation? How do you substitute the growth and satisfaction which comes from developing your skills and enhancing your career?

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 06/03/2026 17:44

I agree. My PIL's four bedroom house is £900k in Herts, but most Home Counties detached houses are average of around that price in naice parts of Bucks and Herts ie Amersham/the Chalfonts/Croxley etc. It doesn't mean people there are rich. Just very comfortable or middle class.

Oh come on, this is all getting a bit desperate.
A non mortgaged 2M home absolutely puts you into the rich category.

An income of 180k puts you in the top 1% of the country, OP’s DH earns well over 3 times that.

not bitter not jealous- just could not define my worth in this way.
I went back to a do a job after retirement as I wanted to make a contribution
I enjoyed rising to a good level in my career and helping to mentor others
It is natural to talk about your outside interactions in a couple, cannot think what I would say if it was instead of "got a Belgian trade mission coming in next week" it was "I cleaned out that cupboard today"

Amusing to me that you think 'got a Belgian trade mission coming in next week' is any more interesting or worthwhile than talking about cleaning out a cupboard. Not all of us define our worth by our jobs, you know.

gdlyig · 06/03/2026 17:53

What have been the main benefits for your DC?

Iho · 06/03/2026 17:55

What do you do all day?

Do you feel under pressure to go to the gym and have lots of beauty treatments to keep up your end of the bargain?

The usual things other women do in terms of housework, it's just on a larger scale. I go out and about, garden, visit family.

I'm not a gym goer, but I keep active enough around the house and garden. I don't see self care as part of a bargain. I do have botox, I'm currently having laser hair removal, I keep on top of my roots, I might look into other treatments later on if I feel like I'm getting craggy. These treatments are for myself more than anyone else.

lol at all the people trying to claim they would stick their kids in childcare and slave away at a 40k job to be ‘fulfilled’ if their DH earned 15 times their salary and they had substantial joint assets.

I'm the higher earner in my marriage and much prefer it that way.

goz · 06/03/2026 17:46

Did that make you feel better?

Edited

Did what make me feel better?

If someone says “I’m a dentist ama” if it turns out they’re not actually a dentist, what’s the point of the thread?

Iho · 06/03/2026 17:57

How large is your sunhat?

This one made me lol. I do have a large sunhat for gardening.

Or maybe they will want to be a SAHP.

Love an AMA, did you send your kids to private schools? If so, did you see it as money well spent?

Why the IoW ? Surely there are better places to have a second home ?

And how do you get there ? Do you have a Sunseeker ?

NetZeroZealot · 06/03/2026 16:47

Where are you educating your children?

A good state school. We wanted kids that have an idea about the real word.

'the growth and satisfaction which comes from developing your skills and enhancing your career'

This puzzles me - do career-oriented people genuinely think this is something everyone feels? I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination and have worked since I was 17, in a variety of jobs, and have never felt any satisfaction nor enjoyed a feeling of personal growth from developing my skills and enhancing my career. I have constantly felt a sense of exhaustion, boredom, stress, desperation and deep desire not to have to do this shite any more.

That's not to say I don't want to contribute to the world - I volunteer, do some activism and am part of some groups, etc. Paid work ain't where everyone finds their joy.

Do you spend a lot each month or is it mostly savings and investments?

Mostly savings. We do spend a lot on nice food. We tend to make occasional big purchases rather than just spending for the sake of it.

I like how you posted about your holiday home on the... Isle of Wight! 😆

But anyway. Do you feel like you are rich-rich or just rich?

If you like to sail it's the perfect place.
Just rich.

MayasJamas · 06/03/2026 16:51

Do you think you look better in terms of your physical appearance than you did before you were rich? And if so, how? Is it clothes/ better food/ products /gym/ treatments/ lack of stress that makes the difference, or all of the above?

Yes all of the above. I think I would look a decade older than I do now if I couldn't have botox and had the stress of work.

It’s 2026.

MxCactus · 06/03/2026 18:07

I'm really interested in whether you feel happy/a sense of purpose without work?

Not because there's anything wrong with not working - but mainly because the few times I've been off work on my maternity leaves I've felt so sad without the drive of my career. Both me and DH are high earning and I could actually afford not to work if I wanted, so I'm interested in what your "purpose" is each day! As that is what I've struggled with when I'm not working

Iho · 06/03/2026 18:07

PippaToryFripp · 06/03/2026 16:51
