No doubt I'd get a load of shade about 'bragging' but that's not the intention. If anyone is interested in asking any questions about travelling regularly with a little own, feel free to ask.

I often travel just the two of us as his Dad can't get as much time off work as I do.

Most dangerous place you’ve been?

I haven't felt unsafe when I've been away with my son. In Trinidad I was told to only do an organised your through the ship as it's dodgy.

I didn't! Lots of people fly, some planes are practically empty! People want to travel, some have to, it's not like what you hear about celebs who have a whole plane to transfer their wardrobe and props.

Of course the environmental factors, same with everything, but with journeys available, yes we do use the opportunity. Have those protesting ever driven a car, put out rubbish, gone abroad? Just because you've done it morecthan the average, those seats would be taken and the planes would fly regardless. Xx

It's supply and demand though, isn't it? If we all do our bit and cut down on our flights, then the airlines will reduce the number of flights they out on. So saying "they're flying anyway I may as well go" misses the point. There won't BE a planet left if you fly all the time. Surely you don't have to go abroad all the time to have quality experiences, or take a ferry instead?!

That’s not a great answer

Indeed. We could all say this!

London2024 · 13/09/2024 17:57

I'd love to stay on xcaret! So expensive though as I'm a teacher.

Ilovelurchers · 13/09/2024 17:59

Dinoswearunderpants · 13/09/2024 15:51

I fully expected all the climate change comments. I assume they are all coming from sustainability Queens who never buy from places such as Shein/Temu and either drive an electric car or better still, cycle everywhere.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones...

This argument doesn't make any sense. Because the people asking you about your horrendous carbon footprint print may sometimes do things that are less than ideal, climate-wise, it doesn't make their points any less valid. Everybody compromises in some ways - maybe they drive - maybe they sometimes buy new when they could have bought second hand - whatever. It is hard to live am entirely carbon-neutral lifestyle, but there's that and then there's flying all over the world just to spend a couple of days somewhere then fly straight back

I find it horribly depressing that you feel taking all these pointless flights is something to be proud of and brag about, and that others seem to admire you for it?

It's a bit like that message Andrew Tate sent to Greta Thunberg isn't it? About how he had all these gas-guzzling cars and he was proud of them and didn't care what she thought......

No wonder the planet is fucked.

Dinoswearunderpants · 13/09/2024 17:48

I kind of expected it. Sad really.

Most child friendly, maybe Switzerland and least strangely Italy as they didn't have a cot at our hotel and struggled with Hugh chairs at time.

Or maybe it’s the fact that a larger number of people than ever before are using food banks now to even feed their three year old and struggling to heat their homes, and this whole thread is in really poor taste.
If this isn’t just a thread based on a massive brag I don’t know what is.

jen337 · 13/09/2024 17:59

Is there any tangible benefit to the child from all this travelling?

Beth216 · 13/09/2024 18:00

People are so boring with their 'but climate change' OP. You can bet they either can't afford to travel or aren't interested, and if they are as saintly and self denying as they make out then they're wasting their time - China has over a thousand coal power stations and plans to build two more every month. They can pretend to themselves they're saving the world when they aren't but I'll be getting the most out of life as I can and that means travelling to amazing places as much as possible.

Good for you OP, have a great time - there's no chance you've done all on 20k though IMO, the Xcaret hotel alone is an eye watering amount and Switzerland costs a bomb.

Fluufer · 13/09/2024 18:01

Is there a reason you haven't ventured to Asia, Africa or Oceania? Do you plan to?
How many of those countries were just brief stops on a cruise?

Anewuser · 13/09/2024 18:02

How on earth can you afford it?

I’m assuming working 4 days a week, you have significant child care costs?

What job are you doing that you have so much excess money to be able to holiday every single month?

I'm gearing up for our first non-direct trip later this year (2 flights and a train ride each way) - any tips for managing this with a 2.5 year old, @Dinoswearunderpants?

Also, are those toddler handcuff things useful when travelling?

Do you have plenty of time between the journeys? My advice would be to take it at little ones pace. You need to factor in toilet trips and snack times.

I've bought one to use in Orlando for the first time as I'm worried how busy it'll be. I also have an air tag on a bracelet for him to wear.

Yes, it’s such a shame they don’t have the option to not click on and/engage in the thread, isn’t it?

Mumsnet isn’t a safe space for those triggered by the wealthy, who are just as entitled to post about things relevant to them as anyone else.

InterIgnis · 13/09/2024 18:08

Good for you, OP. My parents also worked in finance and we travelled a lot when my brother and I were children. Absolutely loved it, and I love travel as an adult too.

Lemonadeand · 13/09/2024 18:08

This isn’t a question, but when I was 3 (getting in for four) we lived in the USA for three months as my Dad was working there and I remember it. So everyone saying he won’t remember - you don’t know that.

I’ve just looked at your list. You’ve got to go to Canada! Are you into hiking? Stunning and so family friendly.

I've been to Canada and love it! I'd want to move there. It's on the list to visit with my hmDH abd DS.

What's your average monthly income from social media related to your travels?

I don't get much. Maybe a couple of hundred. Sometimes I'll get discounts on the hotel and free tickets to attractions.

Surely being able to afford to do this is not some sort of virtue? It just means the OP has the money and the time. If we all had that money and that time, we could all make the same choice or do something else like cross the Andes by frog or buy handbags. So isn't this just "I'm wealthy, this is how I spend it, AMA" - ?

Dinoswearunderpants · 13/09/2024 18:14

MolkosTeenageAngst · 13/09/2024 17:52

How many countries had you visited before having your son?

I've visited a total of my 67 countries. I think I've visited maybe 10-15 new countries with DS. The others are countries I've been before but sometimes new areas.

I was on a flight to Paris once with a woman in her 30s who was with her daughter aged about 10 and her mum, in her 60s. They all went to a different European city once a month, Friday night to Sunday night. They shared a hotel room and said it was really affordable. I thought that sounded really great.

i haven’t made any comment re climate change but I am sure I am not alone in saying I have never bought anything from Shein or Temu, and I don’t drive. We have a car and my partner can drive but we very rarely use it.

I don’t think you can just project lifestyles onto other people and talk about glass houses when there is no indication whatsoever that they have a similar carbon footprint to yours.

Quite.
and anyway, accusing people of hypocrisy is a logical fallacy yourlogicalfallacyis.com/tu-quoque, it doesn’t matter whether people criticising the OP practice what they preach because it makes no difference at all to the fact that the OPs lifestyle is producing I frankly obscene level of carbon emissions
