Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

How are you recovering @Martinisarebetterdirty ?
I had my surgeon appointment today. Went soooo much better than I'd feared, after his previous dismissive attitude.
Told him how alarmed I am by how much they've dropped and the big indent on one side.
He took one look and said some internal sutures have failed. And that I was absolutely entitled to be concerned.
I'm booked in for revision on the 31st!!
He won't charge for the surgery either. It couldn't have gone better.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 18/01/2024 07:22

@Weatherwax13 that is wonderful news! I am delighted for you. I’m doing ok, struggling to sleep but that’s more because of HRT issues than anything boob related. The pain has settled down (I can’t remember if I posted but I had a bubble of fluid and blood build up that was drained earlier this week so that explains the worse pain than last time, nothing to worry about just to keep an eye on).

Singletrackmind · 18/01/2024 09:09

@Weatherwax13 fantastic! What a relief, very pleased for you 🙌

Bigtitsbetty · 18/01/2024 18:52

@Weatherwax13 great news!

Thanks @Bigtitsbetty @Singletrackmind I'm so relieved. Knew by my week 6 check up that something wasn't right and he barely even glanced at them. They'd dropped dramatically in just a few days and the indent formed at the same time.
So presumably that's because the sutures had given way.
This time, I stated my concerns and pretty much whipped my top off as I finished speaking, so he didn't have a choice.
@Madagascary I had pretty bad fluid build up on one side which had to be drained a few times.
The relief afterwards!!

Madagascary · 19/01/2024 05:38

oh I didn't have fluid? That was just my boobs pre op. Breast tissue apparently

I did once have a cyst aspirated and that was incredible

Madagascary · 19/01/2024 05:39

Glad Im not on facebook. Groups sound grim

Madagascary · 21/01/2024 12:49

After reading about your failed sutures I had a nightmare
in it one boob was back to being 34G. My right one. It was massively asymmetrical
I woke up (in my dream) with it like that.

lol. I can laugh now but in my dream was bad!

Madagascary · 21/01/2024 12:50

@Weatherwax13 whens the op

Madagascary · 21/01/2024 12:51

@Martinisarebetterdirty are you on the mend?

Martinisarebetterdirty · 21/01/2024 13:38

I think so thanks @Madagascary , back in for a check up tomorrow so hoping no more bleeding when I get the tapes changed.

Singletrackmind · 21/01/2024 13:46

@Madagascary Yeah I only joined Facebook for the info on the groups ... there's a reason I never went there before .. haha!!

Hope you go well tomorrow @Martinisarebetterdirty and that everyone is OK in their various recovery stages or pre-op planning.

CatrinVennastin · 21/01/2024 14:47

@Weatherwax13 hope your op goes ok

CatrinVennastin · 21/01/2024 14:50

I had a call from the surgeon’s PA to say she has an operating slot available for 14th May. My daughter starts her A levels on 16th May.

we have talked it over and I am going to go ahead with that date. My physio made a good point as she said if you were on an NHS waiting list you would have to take what you were offered.

the next date would be October when my daughter is starting uni so not good either.

I just want it done now!

second consultation is going to be by phone tomorrow as I have work stuff I can’t get out of.

will update tomorrow!

Bigtitsbetty · 21/01/2024 15:40

@CatrinVennastin I would see it as a positive that you will be able to be at home for your daughter and not preoccupied with other things. My son has his A levels too.

CatrinVennastin · 21/01/2024 18:59

@Bigtitsbetty as my daughter pointed out her A levels do go on for 6 weeks!

the thought of going through another heatwave this summer with big boobs is horrendous.

CoolShoeshine · 21/01/2024 20:16

@CatrinVennastin You’re making the right decision to go ahead in May, I find that during exam periods you cannot go out much as a family as your dc need to concentrate on revision, so by the time the A levels are over you’ll be feeling amazing and wanting to go places together!

My dh was busy with work whilst I had my operation so I was mainly looked after by my teens when I returned home, although I didn’t really need much help when the time came. It was nice having them around though, just in case.

@Madagascary I’ve become a regular dreamer about breast surgery too! Luckily no nightmares yet though 😂

I agree wise to go ahead. You’ll be burny and T rex but fine.
I had an adult son at home who doled out medicine and cooked for me . It’s nice just to STOP rushing.

im so exited to you! You’ll be so happy.

Weatherwax13 · 22/01/2024 07:58

Oh christ @Madagascary that's a horrible dream!! Reminds me of those vivid dreams you can get in pregnancy. I had a few doozies where I gave birth to all kinds of very non human babies 😱
Is your pain improving?
I go in next Weds 31st. First on the list:)
@CatrinVennastin that's excellent you have a date. As PPs said, it could actually work really well as you'll be home and lots of opportunity for DD to come and chat if she needs to.

Bigtitsbetty · 22/01/2024 12:01

@CatrinVennastin The best thing I did for post op recovery was make up a basket of things I’d need. It had iPad, chargers, pain killers and a few snacks and drinks in. My husband or son topped it up each evening but it meant everything was close at hand and easy to move. I could just ask them to bring my basket when I moved from bed to sofa etc. You can task the topping up role to your daughter so she feels like she is helping but you are asking too much of her when she’s stresses or revising. It will give you two a chance to check in with each other every day.

@Weatherwax13 new February boobs! woohoo!

Madagascary · 23/01/2024 14:52

I was way more mobile than I expected. Washed hair over a bath on day 4/5

but sleeping upright was a bummer

CatrinVennastin · 25/01/2024 20:55

Thank you everyone for the sound advice.

I had my second consultation by phone on Monday and have paid my deposit of surgery on 14th May. It works well as I'll be able to visit my family at Easter. I'm not planning to tell anyone apart from my Aunt who I am very close to. I know my parents will stress about it as they are getting on a bit and stress about everything these days.

In her letter the surgeon recommended Recova bras and I was having a look but noticed most of you went for Macom bras. Any aside would be gratefully received.

I've also realised that by the time I have my op I will have qualified for company sick pay so that is a relief. DH has booked two weeks off work and DD1 will be on study leave so dog walking is sorted.

I am so excited, nervous too, but I cannot wait to be free of these gigantic annoying boobs.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 26/01/2024 06:54

Brilliant news @CatrinVennastin , you won’t look back with anything other than wishing you’d done it earlier. My surgeon has his own bras he gives out, but from reading on here each one does things a little differently, I was taped up for less time than others and encouraged to moisturise my scars once healed so I think best to go with what your surgeon suggests. You need 2 bras minimum, I (stupidly) only took one in for my revisionary surgery and had a bleed through it - thankfully had a sports bra I’d worn in and they were ok with me putting that on or I’d have been buying one from them.

Singletrackmind · 26/01/2024 09:34

@CatrinVennastin fantastic! Excited for you. You will not look back! I had Lipoelastic bras & as @Martinisarebetterdirty said, make sure you have a couple. Some people get a bit bloated/ swollen after the surgery … not just the boobs 😁… so be prepared to maybe go up a band size, although mostly it’s S/M/L sizing etc with a soft/ compression, crop top style.
