Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

I should get commission for the amount of times those bras have been recommended.

... ps my surgeon didn't measure me either .. they pretty much do it by 'eye'/ proportions I think.

It was when I found out that is how they do it in the theatre too, I was askance

Waddya know! - measured self and seems according to my measuring tape I’m a 36! but still an E cup …
I have some under arm stuff going on - I mentioned liposuction to my consultant but he said that it wasn’t fat but breast tissue so lipo wasn’t an option.. hoping it’s the tail end of breast tissue so will be removed with rest of excess…

Your surgeon sounds odd

I had axillary tissue under both armpits. Both lipo, one needed skin excision because more than the other and that patch of skin had hair on it. If he didn’t remove skin would have looked odd

scar on it was the toughest tbh and lipo takes a while to heal , but not agony

Martinisarebetterdirty · 11/12/2023 18:35

Yes I had lipo under my arms too.
@Weatherwax13 I’ve seen my guy again today, having further surgery to even up (just on one side) mid Jan. He said only an hour in theatre and back to work after a couple of days so nothing like redoing it all again. Have to say I am delighted to be moving forward with a plan.

Weatherwax13 · 11/12/2023 19:11

That's fantastic @Martinisarebetterdirty
You must be so pleased. And mid January is only a few weeks away.
I saw my surgeon too. He seemed very puzzled that I had concerns. Assures me that all will be well by my 12 week appointment.
The practice nurse kept repeating that "it's the size, not the aesthetics that are important ".
But the aesthetics ARE important to me!
And the size is perfect, exactly what the surgeon predicted. I'll hold fire and see how I feel before the next appointment.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 11/12/2023 19:53

Of course the aesthetics are important! Yes the size is the most important but you need to be happy with how they look too. Good he is confident they will be fine by your 12 week appointment. Don’t let them talk you out of your concerns, yes give them time to settle but if you aren’t happy they should sort it.

Singletrackmind · 11/12/2023 22:11

@Martinisarebetterdirty good news! Did he say what he’ll do given that it’s a short procedure … interested! And yes @Weatherwax13 of course you are concerned about aesthetics 🤦🏼‍♀️… so hopefully he’s right & time will help. It is true that they settle loads … mine look so much more natural now than they did in the first few months … the Barbie thing lasted quite a while for me!

Weatherwax13 · 11/12/2023 22:53

@Singletrackmind the barbie effect was gone by week 4 for me. It's now that I have the opposite concern. They've dropped so quickly so I worry what the coming months will bring.
Was not encouraged by surgeon's comment "oh gravity is the enemy"
Hopefully I'll be more positive soon.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 12/12/2023 07:00

@Singletrackmind he’s going to take a crescent out of the bottom of one, so no nipple moving just some of the excess tissue. I’m not sure he’s best pleased tbh as kept saying how he’d taken a lot more out of that side than the other but I didn’t have to argue for it he just said well it needs doing doesn’t it. I’m glad it’s soon but will have to be sensible with eating over Christmas (not sit on the sofa with a box of chocolates balanced on my chest all day)

Singletrackmind · 12/12/2023 10:21

@Martinisarebetterdirty thats interesting … and sounds much more manageable. Hope you are feeling ok about it now.
@Weatherwax13 it is such a work in progress & hopefully you will feel better about stuff as time goes on. I still have really up & down days. My surgeon was pretty clear that even if you can go braless - if your want to preserve the lift then you should wear one, including at night … which I’m still doing cause I’m bloody paranoid now 😱

Martinisarebetterdirty · 12/12/2023 12:00

Yes all happy here @Singletrackmind . You’ve scared me about the lift - am now wearing a bra more often than not at night too because of you 😂

Weatherwax13 · 12/12/2023 21:04

@Martinisarebetterdirty @Singletrackmind
My surgeon was adamant that a support bra was unnecessary, would make zero difference (actually said its a myth) and would hinder the scars healing .
The more I read here I realise he's the only person who's said this and I wish I'd ignored him.

God @Martinisarebetterdirty sorry….😬😆

@Weatherwax13 who’s your surgeon? Even with the various individual things that surgeons do/ recommend…. it’s pretty much universal advice that you wear a support bra for at least the first 6 weeks. After that you can get out of the surgical ones but you still need support as there’s still so much healing happening.

Weatherwax13 · 13/12/2023 00:57

@Singletrackmind I'm in Australia atm so the surgeon's name won't mean anything to anyone on here. But he's a very highly regarded plastic surgeon. Gets great reviews and his surgical technique is the most up to date from what I understand.
But yeah, the after care has been woeful. I'm wearing wireless bras of my own volition but I wish I'd had support ones for those first six weeks as you said.

Singletrackmind · 13/12/2023 15:34

Yes of course .. I forgot! Although I did end up checking out some Aussie surgeons on my research … so may have spotted him! Anyhow, sounds like you are in it now … I absolutely felt like I needed the compression bra security for the first 8-10 weeks and some days am happier still with them on 😁

Lesserspottedbex · 13/12/2023 23:24

Me again. So does anyone have scars that extend further laterally - so round your sides a bit? My surgeon has said that this may be likely in my case in order to get a good contour...
wondering how far they extend and if able to be hidden under bra..?.can't find any images so far online to have a look at to see... TIA.

Lesserspottedbex · 13/12/2023 23:29

Also did you all read the book 'less is more' on breast reduction...' - I've now read it twice through...

Martinisarebetterdirty · 14/12/2023 08:32

My scars go up the sides of my breasts but not straight around my ribs (if that makes sense), if I wore a string bikini you’d be able to see them but otherwise you wouldn’t.
No, I’ve not heard of that book, but I possibly did a lot less research than most on here, I just knew I wanted it done and just researched surgeons.

Singletrackmind · 14/12/2023 13:08

@Lesserspottedbex Haven’t read the book. Got to a point where all the info was fuelling my indecision & I just needed to do it.

Scarring will depend on your shape/ the surgeon's preferred technique. Mine are pretty good and I’m really pleased with the outcome. Naked you can only see the nipple/ front scar, everything else totally hidden in the inframammary fold. Scars stop at the side where the boob starts if that makes sense. I cld wear a tiny bikini if that were my thing 😁… it isn’t …😉 But I had no tissue under the arms as some people do & my surgeon did lipo at the sides for shape.

Lesserspottedbex · 14/12/2023 13:39

I get the indecision thing… I’m still oscillating one way and then the other.. 🤦‍♀️

One year past and indecision about it seems very odd 😀

do we need a new thread? On my phone and can’t see post number but it’s getting laggy @Bigtitsbetty

Singletrackmind · 20/12/2023 09:58

Just checking in as I'm now winding down for Xmas, bunking off work and getting sorted for the festivities.

Wanted to say a big thanks to you lovelies for all the supportive chat here over the last year.

You'll have seen me seesawing over the months as I've got my head around this huge change and I think slowly but surely I've settled into my new boobs.

Needless to say I think however you come at it/ however much you are prepared it's one massive head fuck. So just to say to say to all of you still in the early recovery days or those of you contemplating this journey .. hang in there, it's worth it and you will wake up one day feeling massively chuffed that you were brave enough to do it!

Have a lovely Xmas all when you get there! 🎄🎉😀
