People aren't ' a bit disgruntled' . They are frantic because they can't get to hospital meaning they don't get treatment, might die/ be very ill /disabled/miss the chance to say goodbye to a loved one. They might lose their job, lose money, not be able to pay bills. The knock on effect is huge and immediate.
They haven't won me over;quite the opposite.

But all they have to do is contact the OP and her friends, and they'll beam them up into the air and over the miles of traffic jams.

And the best bit is they'll arrange transport on the other side of the jam - Phew!

All we need now is for the OP to answer the repeated questions about how this all works?

GoodChat · 01/08/2023 10:52

we use code names to maintain anonymity, so one person cannot give evidence, deliberately or unwittingly, about another rebel to the police - even through a phone being confiscated and searched.

Ahh that makes sense. Thank you for answering Smile

loislovesstewie · 01/08/2023 10:28

Even if all the people who are stuck in the traffic jam created by the eco warriors phoned,NOTHING would happen, there is no way they would get off the carriageway and allow people to go about their lawful business. look at the mother pleading with them recently ,trying to get her baby to hospital. I think they enjoyed that.

I felt physically sick and stressed seeing that footage having had to rush my baby to hospital previously @Market1 would people in your terror group really be so cruel and arrogant to tell her in that situation that it wasn't a big thing if her baby died as a result of your actions because #whatabouttery?

XR do not target hospitals. Mostly it’s banks and other institutions. The big public events are widely advertised in advance so the public - and the emergency services- can adapt.

loislovesstewie · 01/08/2023 11:06

Well , it's clearly not working is it? People are still driving where they want to rather than protesters.

I don't believe anyone has suggested they target hospitals. They are blocking people on roads so they can't get to Hospital.
I somehow doubt when a frantic parents loads their sick child into the car for an emergency they think "Oh stop and minute, lets go and check where XR and protesting so we can adapt"

  1. Most people wouldn't know where to look for that info
  2. All they are thinking is get in the car quick lets get to the hospital
  3. Most people aren't interested in your protests and want to get on with their day.
Darker · 01/08/2023 11:21

There are lots of reasons people are delayed getting to hospital… your smartphone will tell you where traffic is bad.

ambulances certainly use this technology.

I am very against these actions on roads etc. So my question is if you accept humans will be on the planet for in effect the blnk of an eye in historical terms why does it matter if we go a bit sooner due to climate change? Do you put humans above other animals or indeed rocks and if so why?

We are not going alone though, are we, we are taking much of life on Earth with us. But I also think humanity is worth saving, yes,

I've manned various forms of emergency transport and escort in the past, it works some of the time for some people. And of course there are routes around blockages, too, which most people use.

We do our best to facilitate emergency journeys, and as I have said, many more people are harmed by the roads being open than the roads being closed

What's your occupation?

Teacher, so if I get a criminal record I might lose my job, however I am coming towards the end of my career now, and am fairly hopeful that I could find another job and another source of income if I needed to

brokenlore · 01/08/2023 11:32

How do you get time off for protesting? Or do you only protest at weekends / holidays?
What do you teach and do you tell the kids you are part of ER? I can imagine some quite fun classroom discussions!

Market1 · 01/08/2023 11:33

MichelleScarn · 01/08/2023 10:17

Will your arrests not show up in enhanced disclosure?

well yes, if I am convicted of anything I will tell my head, and I might lose my job, not if it were up to him personally, as I know he supports ER, but he might have no choice

MEMO to you, your best isn't good enough re getting people to hospital. No one should have to plead to be able to get a person to hospital, no one should be stressed by that, no one should be prevented from getting to work on time.
I'll say it here, if anyone prevented me getting my child to hospital when it's an emergency, they wouldn't actually be standing up for long. I mean that.

I protest weekends and school holidays, no, I don't speak about ER at all at school

people who protest know they are risking being the victim of abuse and violence - it takes a lot of courage to protest.

Most people are supportive though

Jesus another politicians answer.

HOW do you facilitate them? HOW do you get from the middle of a massive traffic jam, to you and your mates to be facilitated?

And minimising the pain and suffering that's been caused to the dying, sick, injured and grieving with "many more people are harmed by the roads being open than the roads being closed", is disgusting.

Are you also the sort of person who minimises violence/poverty/racism/homophobia because "Many more people have it worse"?

You're not covering yourself in glory here at all.

loislovesstewie · 01/08/2023 11:44

I don't give a toss about you and your fellow protesters . I actually think you all want to be martyrs, so fine.I find your attitude bizarre, you don't help your cause one iota.

lostinfusion · 01/08/2023 11:47

I would be interested in attending a protest, they occasionally do them at a private airport nearby - how would I know when one of these is going to be happening?

GoodChat · 01/08/2023 11:48

Could you afford to lose your job OP?
I'm just interested in the process behind your willingness to risk a lot.

Don't answer if it's too personal, or feel like you have to give a detailed response.

I think you've been very measured in this thread and it's an interesting read/

Look on the extinction rebellion website, lots of information about plans, protests and lots of training and information available.

Nonsense! We can see from this thread alone this is not the case, and you have no evidence-based research to support your theories. You are choosing to ignore most people's views and contorting reality to fit your agenda. This is true ignorance and arrogance.

I think I could - my mortgage is paid ( I am in my 50s). I could probably pick up a local job fairly easily, care work, or similar - Being convicted for environmental protests does not cause the same issues as being convicted for other criminal offences, lots of employers are fine about it. I might not even lose my job, some school staff get criminal convictions and keep their jobs.

But yes, it is a risk, and it was not something I was prepared to risk while my children were still dependent. I understand why some very keen protesters wait until they are retired.

I used to do other things to support the protests but that did not cross the line into arrest territory, such as police liaison. There are a lot of protesters in this camp, want to protest, do not want to risk a criminal conviction. It depends on your stage of life, and what you are prepared to risk.

It's a personal choice - if I found myself in severe financial difficulties because of a criminal record, then I don't think I would regret it, I think I would still be happy with the choices I made.
