I lied on my CV - AMA

Following on from a recent thread about cvs. Nc for this.
I have a fabricated cv- not completely but in my 20s what is on my cv isn't what I actually did.
After having children I changed career and couldn't find a job so I invented a job history that was fake. It worked and for the past 12 years I've been doing this career. I no longer put the fake history on cvs as I now have the experience to back it up.
Never got into trouble and always kept track of my lie.
So AMA

Always wondered about this. At what age was the lie added for and at what age did you add the lie ? Can you give us an example of what level of your career the lie covered ?

Itsallok · 04/03/2023 06:39

You've been lucky. I would not recommend it.

Cvlying · 04/03/2023 06:40

The lie was added after uni for 10 years. So everything I did from 21 to 31 on my cv is a lie. So junior positions. I mannered to get a middle manager job with it and I'm now in the senior management team.

You've got some balls! How did you learn the relevant skills for your new job?

barmycatmum · 04/03/2023 06:42

what Did you do for recommendations/ references?

Palomabalom · 04/03/2023 06:42

Wonderful

Itsallok · 04/03/2023 06:43

If I ever found out - I'd have you sacked.

incognitodorrito · 04/03/2023 06:44

Thank you - the lie covered upto 31, so how old were you when you went for the middle management job ?

incognitodorrito · 04/03/2023 06:46

ps. If you produce good results now, and you must be to get continuously promoted, I don’t see why you would be sacked imo !

Cvlying · 04/03/2023 06:46

I did a Msc in the relevant qualification so got a education reference and my dh wrote one as ' someone I used to work with" I was v lucky the company I went to work for bought it.

Doing this is a criminal offence; obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception

iusedtobeasize8 · 04/03/2023 06:50

I couldn't live a lie like that. The stress!

Cvlying · 04/03/2023 06:56

I really don't think about it now as I have over 10 years of actual experience now. So I only refer if needed back to my real experience

That. And you'd be bloody replaceable, most liars are.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 04/03/2023 07:00

Now that you’re in management, if you found out a member of staff had done this, how would you deal with it?

PortiasBiscuit · 04/03/2023 07:01

Well I wouldn’t put more than ten years on a CV anyway and you’ve probably got away with it.
Not sure why you’re boasting on here though, it’s not really anything to be proud of. You almost certainly took the original job away from someone more deserving who actually told the truth.

Donnashair · 04/03/2023 07:01

I have a friend who did this. Almost exact same story.

it’s now unusual but often does end in ruin for the person.

My MD tried to get to work for him for 2 years. By the time I said yes, he didn’t check my references.

Cvlying · 04/03/2023 07:04

The original job I was actually over qualified with my relevant master for. So I did have the theoretical knowledge for the job just not any practical experience. I wouldn't get away with it now.

Having a masters does not make you overqualified. It never does. You lied and for the sake of honest people I hope it does come back and bite you. Karma and all that.

MissPoldark · 04/03/2023 07:14

Why did you start the thread, is it because it still plays on your conscience?

Doesn’t worrying about someone finding out keep you awake at night?

what do you think would happen if someone you work or your employer with finds out?

what have you put on your Linked In profile

Cvlying · 04/03/2023 07:18

My linkedin is real as in it only goes back 10 years..
I posted this as I was inspired by another thread.
It doesn't worry me now as I do have the experience for my current job.

I'm assuming/hoping it wasn't a medical position?

If not, fuck it, well played for getting the jobs and bettering your career for it! I'm glad it worked out for you!

WhatWhereWhenHowWhy · 04/03/2023 07:40

Wow! Well aslong as it's not a position needing medical or life changing input then lucky you!

Cvlying · 04/03/2023 07:41

No nothing medical or anything like that just boring management.

So you have no feelings of remorse for lying at all?
