What do you want to know about Waitrose?

@tickticksnooze Why more stressful?

It just seems so different, working across different floors in a bigger team and having to be really knowledgable about tons of different products, from electrical to babycare. I have a lot of respect for the people that work there!

I think thats why my friend is a bit unhappy, she said there's expectation you have to have so much knowledge about all different departments but no time to learn anything. Im going to tell her to consider waitrose if she can.

Thanks but it's pretty obvious to customers seeing as the machines are so nice and clean and no longer being used as extra storage, it's pointed out to us every day 😂

Not pretty obvious to most customers and def not meant to be advertised on a much used forum? ! Please be aware of what you are posting . S X

I agree. I have known people disciplined or sacked for less.

Don’t worry. This is a recruitment campaign

Pratners · 18/09/2022 20:28

I'm mystified too! I haven't done a rescan for ages so maybe it's changed.

Could this be because sometimes shop lifters scan a cheap item instead of an expensive one, to try to get away with tricking the self checkout?

Doesn’t sound like your selected items were particularly cheap but perhaps it just randomly selects a couple to try to combat this.

Do you think someone who still wears a mask could or would be hired?

Yes, of course. Plenty of us wear masks still. 🙂

I think @Pratners information is making me aware that waitrose sounds a great place to work, and they sound very positive and happy there

Thank you 😊 I wasn't actually sure if I'd like it, but I do! There are a few Partners who really don't like their jobs though. But I think you get Negative Nancys in every line of work.

Oh, it tastes better because it's free-got it.

It actually tastes foul. I suspect they started to use very cheap coffee beans in the end.

wallpoppy · 18/09/2022 21:46

Why did you get rid of the free newspapers? I loved doing my shop sunday morning and then coming home to eat my lovely fresh pastry while doing the guardian crossword and reading the supplements over coffee. Perfect combination of productive and lazy sunday activity.

Pratners · 18/09/2022 21:47

IMPORTANT COFFEE DISCLAIMER:

I don't drink coffee, I've no idea what it tastes like. Like anything else there are lovers and haters.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to that. That does sound like a perfect morning though.

Do you have any interesting characters that come into shop? I used to work for a supermarket and some of the regulars were very colourful. What’s the most ridiculous complaint you have ever had?

Whynobreadpudding · 18/09/2022 22:03

The free coffee was a big incentive for me, and I used to spend about £20 as well. Now I go to Sainsburys.

We do have interesting characters but you get them everywhere don't you 😁

I haven't really had any ridiculous complaints, just the usual sort of "why have you stopped selling (favourite item)" and I understand because I hate it when I can't find what I want! I try to find them an alternative and give it to them free, although sometimes they don't want anything different - free or not.

@Pratners , how can you give away free stuff, i dont get that?? Are you a manager?

No I'm not a manager. We are allowed to use our discretion to give something away if the situation seems appropriate. Nothing massive, you're not getting a free iPad or anything 😁

Do you have the Waitrose app linked to your MyWaitrose card? Have you been getting weekly emails reminding you to check your personalised offers? If you have been getting the new personalised vouchers which were introduced in the spring, and if you were a regular newspaper buyer who had been getting the price taken off when you scanned your loyalty card, as long as you spent a minimum of £10, you should have a separate ‘Newspapers’ tab alongside your offers. It allows a digital voucher for one paper each day with no minimum spend, and if the stated paper isn’t available the voucher will work for an alternative choice. Just ask the cashier if you’re not sure where to look.

OP, as others have said, I’m not sure your line manager or BM would be supportive of this thread.

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2022 22:17

I would be worried that this thread will end up in the Daily Mail if I was the OP.

TheUntiedShoelace · 18/09/2022 21:03

I've got my free newspapers back - I moaned in every single online survey Waitrose asked me to do. The squeaky wheel gets the Daily Telegraph...

What do you mean? They give you a free newspaper but no one else?

wallpoppy · 18/09/2022 22:21

@YourWinter holy guacamole you're right. I've got seven free newspaper vouchers on my app. I had no idea! Thank you! You've made my day.

thismeansnothing · 18/09/2022 23:06

Oooooof I'd be careful with this thread OP. There is a policy on social media use 😳

My local branch, south woodford , has now started to only reduce items by a few pence....even at closing time....used to be very good for bargains...why are the reductions now so miserly....not worth buying items now....!!

Our branch is the same. It's almost as if they want to discourage the sale of items. Very odd,

YourWinter · 18/09/2022 23:20

:) happy to help! The personalised voucher scheme is inexcusably clunky and possibly the worst-executed loyalty scheme of any supermarket, but it’s a shame to miss out when something you do want is there for free. The vouchers refresh every Wednesday and if you’re one of the customers who gets the newspaper vouchers, you’ll still get offered one every day whether you use them or not.

Fish Friday never went away, but for a few months the MyWaitrose card ALSO gave a 20% discount from the meat, deli and bakery counters too, every day of the week. It might now shuttle between one or other fresh counter, but if it’s say, deli this week, Fish Friday will still apply.

YourWinter · 18/09/2022 23:29

wallpoppy · 18/09/2022 22:19

What do you mean? They give you a free newspaper but no one else?

If you get emails about your weekly personalised vouchers on the app or online, then previous regular “buyers” who got the cost of their paper deducted are likely to have vouchers for a free paper too.

This scheme has been in place for several months but it’s not user-friendly at all!
