What do you want to know about Waitrose?

I used to have Waitrose shopping delivery. If the delivery was more than 5mins late I got a free bottle of wine, then it changed to a free bar of chocolate. Now if they are late, they are late. 😕

I do love Waitrose. Wish I had one nearer.

That's never been official policy but will have been a decision made at the branch fulfilling your order. It's possible your deliveries changed to being fulfilled by a different branch who didn't do this. Sometimes this happens when one store is having a refit. It also could just depend on who you speak to when you call to say your delivery is late - some partners might offer you a freebie and some it might not occur to them to do so.

What chips would you recommend to go with my steak?

I remember that thread lol*

Oh did I miss a joke right at the start of this thread? 😁 What did I miss??

Why did they take out the patisserie counters?

karmalama · 18/09/2022 20:14

@Pratners no weirdly it wasn't random
I could actually see on her handset 48 dishwasher tablets and pork joint, then she looked for them and checked they were in my bag, that's why I'm so mystified 🤣

SausageinaBun · 18/09/2022 20:14

How does discounting food close to sell by date work? Whenever I see discounted stuff, it seems to be 30p off a £5 item and that seems a bit pointless to me. Am I just there at the wrong time?

IAmTheUsername · 18/09/2022 20:15

the discounts i see tend to be good but not many hardly anything last time but the time before got two sea bass fillets with some sort of herb butter for £3 instead of £6.50 it was about 2-3pm

spongedog · 18/09/2022 20:22

I applied for a role and was invited for interview. Day before i/v I was checking my account and saw a role that I was professionally more suitable for, so started the application for that one. I i/v and was offered my original role but had to decline the offer as I couldnt have 2 live applications open. I i/v for the 2nd but was rejected. If I reapply for the 1st am I likely to be rejected totally as a timewaster? I did keep the store totally up to date and did inform them at 1st i/v of the situation. I have never worked for an er where you cant have multiple live job applications!

I'm not sure as there hasn't been a patisserie counter in my branch for the few years I've been there.

Why did they change the butterscotch pecan yum yums to those dreadful square things filled with over sweet crap. Bloody ruined my day when I bought one and took a bite. Find out who made the decision and sack them for me please.

I second this! I came onto this thread to ask exactly that. The new ones are an ABOMINATION!

I'm mystified too! I haven't done a rescan for ages so maybe it's changed.

Things I like about waitrose

  • staff always seem to have time to genuinely help, they don't seem to be constrained by a clock if that makes sense?
  • Range of food
  • Ethical employer and this shows in the happiness of staff
  • The flower section.

Most questions I'd have are already answered, so I'll do a general one: what has surprised you most about working in Waitrose?
Also, what one thing would you change about working there?
What one thing would you change from a customers point of view?

It's an algorithm that we can't control at branch level. The later in the day it gets, the bigger the discount will be. On days like today when most branches are shut tomorrow, we are able to override the algorithm and set much cheaper prices, particularly for fresh food dated tomorrow (or Christmas Day, Easter Day etc)

My local branch, south woodford , has now started to only reduce items by a few pence....even at closing time....used to be very good for bargains...why are the reductions now so miserly....not worth buying items now....!!

Infinitemoon · 18/09/2022 20:36

What's so good about the free coffee? Everyone seems to really miss it is it a special blend or something? 🤔

It is actually awful coffee tbh.

IAmTheUsername · 18/09/2022 20:15

Where do you do your shopping?

As mentioned upthread, I order most of my weekly shop from Waitrose online and collect it at the end of my shift the next day, because of the discount and convenience. I also shop at Tesco and Sainsburys depending on what I need. Oh and Morrisons occasionally.

GreenClock · 18/09/2022 20:36

Any funny stories? Any famous customers?
Will the free newspapers be reintroduced?

ToootToot · 18/09/2022 20:37

Where oh where did Baby Bottom Butter go?! It was obviously extremely popular as it was very often out of stock over the years. It was the best moisturiser I’ve ever had and nothing else comes even close!

I think it's worth trying for the first role again. Especially as you did keep them informed of what was going on. You don't seem like a time waster and I don't think they would see you as one either. Good luck 🙂

How do you decide who gets a freebie at the till? Bouquet of flowers, toy for a child etc. I occasionally see posts from local residents "thanking Waitrose" on local Fb pages because someone gave them x item for free when going through the till.

NeckFanInSoftPlay · 18/09/2022 20:44

Why on earth did you post this?!? Why would a supermarket worker be bombarded with questions?!

What has surprised me most is how accepting my branch manager and team managers are of us as Partners. We really are encouraged to be ourselves and speak up if we're not happy about something. We're also encouraged to have goals and have support to ensure we meet them.

What would I change? There are a couple of Partners I would fire 😂 Seriously though there is so much paperwork! I understand why but it seems a bit excessive to me.

From a customer's point of view I would make the signage better in store. I get customers asking me where a certain few things are all the time, it's not as obvious as it should be.
