What do you want to know about Waitrose?

My local branch, south woodford , has now started to only reduce items by a few pence....even at closing time....used to be very good for bargains...why are the reductions now so miserly....not worth buying items now....!!

See previous answer, it's an algorithm

What chips would you recommend to go with my steak?

You win! 😂

FayeGovan · 18/09/2022 20:55

Waitrose staff are always so nice, is it a great company to work for? My friend works in john Lewis and is a bit meh about it. I thought they would be fantastic but shes not impressed.

Kriskristoffifee · 18/09/2022 20:57

Op I hope you aren't recognised, the coffee was not not meant to be shared publicly. Maybe if you had read currents ?? Ouch

I think it's worth trying for the first role again. Especially as you did keep them informed of what was going on. You don't seem like a time waster and I don't think they would see you as one either. Good luck 🙂

Thank you. I loved the people I met at my local branch. But the other role was cracking!! Had to give it a go!

Any funny stories? Any famous customers?
Will the free newspapers be reintroduced?

I don't think the free newspapers will be reintroduced.

I personally haven't seen any famous customers but I've heard stories from other branches.

Unfortunately all my funny stories have the potential of outing me, sorry!

Where oh where did Baby Bottom Butter go?! It was obviously extremely popular as it was very often out of stock over the years. It was the best moisturiser I’ve ever had and nothing else comes even close!

It was discontinued due to supply issues ☹️

I've got my free newspapers back - I moaned in every single online survey Waitrose asked me to do. The squeaky wheel gets the Daily Telegraph...

Iovewinter · 18/09/2022 21:03

Silly question but years ago you do an amazing carrot cake muffin is there any chance that would ever come back

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 18/09/2022 21:03

Some branches also have dedicated Partners who cook breakfasts, lunches etc (also made from Waitrose ingredients) although I think branches like this are few and far between.

I used to work in a branch that had this. It was about 10 years ago so may have changed but it was lovely. Really cheap fully cooked breakfasts on my Sunday shift - and it was when they paid time and a half for Sundays. Do they still pay that now?

Thanks but it's pretty obvious to customers seeing as the machines are so nice and clean and no longer being used as extra storage, it's pointed out to us every day 😂

How do you decide who gets a freebie at the till? Bouquet of flowers, toy for a child etc. I occasionally see posts from local residents "thanking Waitrose" on local Fb pages because someone gave them x item for free when going through the till.

We just do it when it feels right and natural to do so. Some Partners are probably more inclined to do so than others.

Used to be a partner (not my choice I'm not now), my kids lived Brownsea Castle, can you book us in please? I think you have to come too 😀

We wil pay our own way and give you a gift 🙏

But what would the gift be? 😆

Thank you! I think it's a good place to work, but I guess like anywhere it can depend on your boss and the team around you. I haven't worked in John Lewis but I would imagine it's more stressful than Waitrose.

Only if you joined before a certain point in 2016, I believe. Anyone who joined after that gets single rate.

You sound happy in your work. Are you? Are there downsides?

Because you're making me want to come and work at Waitrose too. 😆

Roomytrouser · 18/09/2022 21:12

Why is the butter currently 45p more expensive than M&S?

Why more stressful?

Op are your line managers aware of your declare all about Waitrose and Partners . Please re read currents . Do not share with general public.

I agree. I have known people disciplined or sacked for less.

I am happy there, yes. Downsides are when we're under-staffed due to illness and it's really busy. You have to juggle a lot of plates and that's when teamwork really kicks in.

I don't know, pricing decisions aren't my decisions.

@tickticksnooze Why more stressful?

It just seems so different, working across different floors in a bigger team and having to be really knowledgable about tons of different products, from electrical to babycare. I have a lot of respect for the people that work there!

FayeGovan · 18/09/2022 21:25

I think @Pratners information is making me aware that waitrose sounds a great place to work, and they sound very positive and happy there
