Cute! What do you do with them? Just look? Are they 'clever'?

Riseabove · 16/09/2022 22:41

How did you get over your phobia? Your pet spids are very cute!

SomethingFast · 16/09/2022 22:41

Would you like any more? Happy to send over all of the the ones in my house!

KeyErro · 16/09/2022 22:43

They're beautiful! How did you change your mindset?

They're jumping spiders so don't mind being handled (though it's still dependent on individual spider)

So I hold them. Watch them. Feed them.

They're very enquisative.

Oh, they're ever so cute. I like spiders and spend a lot of time saving house spiders from my cats, who always want to eat them - I pick them up and pop them safely outside! For that reason I couldn't have pet spiders, as my cats would regard them as lunch, but lovely to see your pics, OP.

I saw a random video of a jumping spider and thought it was really cute. So I watched a few more. And a few more. And eventually after watching hours of videos I got a teeny jumper from a petshop. I was still quite scared of her, they're fast when they want to be.

I had her 14 months before she passed away.

After that I continued to watch videos of larger spiders and I eventually held a tarantula which really helped!

Thankyou!

Yes, I've gone from killing ANY spider in the house to relocating them to the downstairs toilet so they can be dry and warm 😂 Even the nasty hairy ones. I don't think I'll ever be a fan of those.

I.want to get a tarantula akd a giant millipede but dd1 won't entertain the idea

Mydpisgrumpierthanyours · 17/09/2022 10:30

Do your neighbours know? If so arent they freaked out in case they escaped?
Have they escaped? Can you breed them/interested in breeding them?
Have they escaped? Do you get visitors decline to come over?
Sorry I'm just desperately hoping your not my next door neighbour 😂

PoseyFlump · 17/09/2022 10:35

I don't know why I clicked on this when I'm super scared of spiders! But I have to say, Lydia is pretty cute.

How big are they and do they 'jump'?

Yep. They eat mealworm and flies.

No, because at most they're the size of a thumbnail at most and they're in a secure enclosure so never had anyone be too worried.

My direct neighbours don't know but I don't think they'd be bothered.

My neighbour afacing me had a tarantula so they're not bothered.

They've never escaped.
You can breed them but I have no interest, they produce around 100 babies in a sac and you have to eventually separate them and feed them individually. Too much work for me!

Lydia looks like Lucas the spider! I have no questions but I want one now.

Some people keep them in their enclosures and don't take them out often. I handle mine a few times a week, for fun and they're enquisative and want to come out. Especially Dookie.

You just have to be aware and careful and have a cup on standby to catch them.
