Good for you. Did you make em bigger or smaller?

Did your consultant talk to you about menopausal shrinkage? Does it worry you?

Hi op

Joining you in the club to support against the stupidly flippant comments

I had it done at 19 and am so, so glad I did. I can now sit down without having to worry about pain when my labia got caught in the middle seam of my trousers or jeans, I can wear the underwear I like without it getting caught and pulling as I walk or move.

I can now also have sex without them getting caught, pulling or chafing. So my life has been improved from the procedure

Anyone suffering the same symptoms should certainly look into labiaplasty things do they want to.

Ewww, this reminded me of something I saw on Twitter recently; a woman had the same procedure and posted a photo of her “off cuts”

The post got a lot of traction (mainly people saying how gross/why would you post that) and it ended up on my timeline and I can’t unsee it 🤮

How painful was the recovery?
I can't beleive some of the puerile comments on here.

Why did you have the procedure ?

Cosmetic or medically necessitated?

I actually considered it about 20 years ago as I used to do a lot of running ( jogging ) in my younger years, I did half marathons etc and you sweat a lot and I always thought that “it” was too big/long , if you get me .
But I suppose I was too vain and a bit insecure as I was married at the time and my husband told me that it was fine .😮.
Anyway I went to my GP who told me that “it” was normal so that was the end of that until I got divorced many years later and went out with a guy who asked me if I had ever been a man ?
That’s the Truth and I was mortified to say the least .

Yes that’s the joke NiceGerbil

Menopausal shrinkage - yes I do worry about it a little. Surgeon was fairly dismissive of this concern, as he was about the chance of tearing in childbirth. I asked him to remove less than he intended to, for these reasons.

Thank you Bingbangbingbangbong I am 100% with you!

Not painful at all Housewoes23, more boring, a bit gross (can’t clean it really for a few days) and uncomfortable. Also nerve-wracking as it looks a lot worse before it looks better.

I had it because I don’t like the way my vulva looked or behaved.

The procedure was fine, no discomfort andy quick. Recovery is long (at least a week before you can do anything much) which is the worst part).

It was cosmetic for me. My flaps also felt awful and uncomfortable beforehand, but I can’t pretend there was a medical need to remove them. They just were in the way.

Just out of interest - do you people who have had the surgery work? What reason did you give for being off work. Did you just say "operation" and if so did colleagues ask what you were having done?

FlagFlaps · 29/07/2020 09:53

More about recovery... you have to lie on your back for a few days, putting ice between your legs when needed. I took codeine the day I had the surgery, but not sure if it was needed. I had stopped taking anything (ibuprofen etc) within about 2 days. But my recovery was quite easy and I also didn’t have much removed. People who have more removed have a tougher time I think.

How much did it cost?

Report
FlagFlaps · 29/07/2020 09:57

JaJaDingDong I wasn’t working at the time but I did have to make excuses to some people. I would make general reference to “women’s troubles” and no one asked any more questions Grin

If I had’ve been working, I would have timed it to coincide with a holiday (first week) and then tried to work from home for the second, if that’s an option for you.

I did have to meet a friend around the end of the second week and I just said I had a bad back. At that point I was just moving a bit stiffly (walking is not a good thing to do when you’re still healing so you have to be careful).

Good on you op - if you feel happier now it was the right thing for you...

GiddapGreyWaynesKeat it usually costs around £4000 I think. I found a great surgeon who does it for £2000. No regrets. Couldn’t have afforded it at £4000 and he is totally above board. PM me if you are interested

Good for you being brave enough to do something about it if it was bothering you.
Silly I know but I always assumed most vulvas were the same. As women we do not normally see others do we?
Mine are neatly tucked away and whilst yes ' everyone is different ' if you are not happy with them from an aesthetic point of view and or derive discomfort from them I am glad something can be done to resolve this.

“ Silly I know but I always assumed most vulvas were the same. As women we do not normally see others do we?”

Well crimsonlake I think it’s really common to think that, when you have the kind of vulva that is popularly represented (anywhere from medical illustrations, tampon leaflets, art, porn, etc).

People with my kind of vulva are not represented at all. So ‘we’ know what ‘your’ kind of vulva might look like, but you have no idea about ours.

It’s a depressing place to be.
