I'm a semi-successful musician in a rock band. It's my only occupation, has been for some years. I've been a lot of places, seen a lot of stuff and met a lot of people. Ask me anything. I can't answer everything for various reasons but let's see how it goes...

OP posts:

I was thinking Wolf Alice but can’t see they played same festival as prince.... think that’s key.... op said the did a festival with prince!

Op referred to a second child too so ruled out female in Wolf Alice

Mynameisntsusan · 19/10/2020 15:15

This is really bugging me, hope we find out

tywysoges · 19/10/2020 15:45

Tim Rice-Oxley, is that you? Grin I’m sure Keane have a couple of top 10s but the mention of Tracey Emin made me suspicious 🤔

MrDarcysMa · 21/10/2020 00:01

Magic numbers didn't play the Fuji rock fest when it was still at my. Fuji did they?

stuckasastuckthing · 21/10/2020 05:18

Hmmmm...

I don't know much (anything!) about Fujifest so just looked it up. According to Wikipedia the festival moved in 1999 so no band formed in the 00s could have done?? Slightly addicted to the mystery so will look into it some more tmrw. Did op say they played while it was at Mount Fuji?

Jammysod · 22/10/2020 20:52

Pretty sure it's someone from The View.
They said the bass player dove off the stage & broke a fans nose: www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailyrecord.co.uk/entertainment/celebrity/exclusive-i-dived-into-crowd-and-broke-fans-1001981.amp

5 studio albums.
Nominated Mercury prize in 2007.

HyggeTygge · 22/10/2020 21:28

Hmm, they've had one UK no. 3. But I'm assuming they may have changed a couple of details....

whyareyoulying · 22/10/2020 21:54

Obviously a dead threat but I'm convinced it's someone from the futureheads.
Definitely fits.
Formed in 2000
Lots of festivals
6 albums

@stuckasastuckthing yes op described seeing Mount Fuji at the festival which can only have been the first one?

HyggeTygge · 23/10/2020 23:16

I hadn't realised that! The first one in 1997 was a disaster apparently, day 2 had to be cancelled because of a typhoon. The second one in 1998 was in a temporary new setting elsewhere. Ever since 1999 it has been at Naeba ski resort, which is a long way from Mt Fuji. However, it is possible that you can see mt fuji from there: info.jmc.or.jp/fujisankoko/#8/35.809/138.510 (this is a map of where it's possible to view Mt Fuji from).

OP said "probably FujiRock in Japan was a favourite. Japanese people enjoy music is a different way to westerners. They made us feel like we were Michael Jackson. The festival is set with view of Mount Fuji, there are giant tropical insects and humid weather. All the bands are in the same hotel (always fun) and they stop to listen between songs, going dead silent. It's all quite an experience!"

TheMagicDeckchair · 27/10/2020 23:48

Racked my brains on this one for a while and my guess is The Pigeon Detectives- played Fuji Rocks, and ties up with explaining the name.

Could be miles off though- thanks OP for keeping me up late thinking about this! I loved 00s Indie rock.

They didn't form until 2004 though, so it's unlikely
TheMagicDeckchair · 28/10/2020 08:11

@whyareyoulyingwhy the band hadn’t formed by the 90s but toured in the 00s decade. We know they were playing festivals by 2007 thanks to the Aimee Winehouse story.

They’re also signed to an independent label.

So band in question formed sometime between 2000 and say 2006. Doesn’t narrow it down much!

stickyg · 28/10/2020 08:13

I just skipped to the last page to say I’m thinking Jon from Glasgow band The Fratellis. I saw them support Kasabian back in the day, I love them.

RuggerHug · 28/10/2020 21:58

My money is on someone in the Zutons. If OP ever comes backGrin

wishywashywoowoo70 · 30/10/2020 22:47

TOM CHAPLIN?

wishywashywoowoo70 · 30/10/2020 22:50

Or Alex Kapranos??

RainbowRaine · 30/10/2020 22:54

@SweetnSaltyPopcornPlease would you write a song for someone else?

MINEareCRAFTy · 13/11/2020 16:51

Editors

HyggeTygge · 13/11/2020 18:43

Editors have had 2 top ten singles.

MINEareCRAFTy · 13/11/2020 19:15

Damn

stuckasastuckthing · 13/11/2020 19:52

I think the View as suggested above sounds the most likely because of the broken nose story.

DonnaQuixotedelaManchester · 15/11/2020 19:42

I have missed out on so much lairs indie music. Don’t know where I am as musically at that time , a bit lot I think. Have been following Tim Burgess listening party on Twitter lately and it is great. Also Dave Haslam. Feel like there is loads of music I have to catch up on starting with Wolf Alice

While you are at home during this pandemic, do you do other paid work from home?
