I'm a semi-successful musician in a rock band. It's my only occupation, has been for some years. I've been a lot of places, seen a lot of stuff and met a lot of people. Ask me anything. I can't answer everything for various reasons but let's see how it goes...

How have you managed during lockdown and how can you see the entertainment/ music industries surviving?

We as I'm sure you did, lost all our work in about an hour.
Just after a gig on our latest tour, everything went. One ping after another of notified cancellations.

Have you ever played at Dagenham Roundhouse?

Well I think you're amazing anyway. I spent my student loan (over 25 years ago 😂) on watching bands. Totally in awe of anyone in the music business.

Have you just been doing a lot of day drinking .. what the f are you doing on Mumsnet ... are you a student lying about on the sofa taking the piss ?

The music industry still seems to be incredibly sexist - female artists being pressured to dress as sex objects, vast majority of people in positions of power (e.g. at record labels) being male, female artists usually singers, rarely guitarists or drummers. Do you agree? Do you see things changing at all? I've heard KT Tunstall speak about this on stage, encouraging girls to be rock musicians. Taylor Swift seems to be leading the way in speaking up.

Do you get to go to any live shows where you are incognito in the crowd? What was the last gig you saw live?

I would hate to be so famous that I couldn't go to gigs. I miss live music.

Thanks, it’s a shame you say that about music school. Our thinking is he has to be in education for the next two years regardless so he may as well be studying something he loves. It will get him to know like minded people and he can network from there.

Yes it is better he study something he is passionate about. Problem is music students get no proper guidance on what to do when they hit the real world. Encourage him to study towards a paying career - that he can drop when he starts making good money from music. Best of luck to him!

Ha, once or twice but nothing noticeable. The crowd singing along would cover the mistake.
