As requested @IdaBWells Smile

There was a thread before but I can't find it. When Mumsnet has its brain fart a few months ago I could never get back in to my old account.

I live on a little island off the coast of Maine. I moved here after living in London for 15 years.

Is it islesboro op?

IdaBWells · 11/08/2019 19:54

He also asked me if I spend weekends on "my country estate?".

catofdoom · 11/08/2019 20:01

@IdaBWells yes actually you're probably completely right!

I've had people say 'tally ho' in a piss taking way and it really boils my piss. AngryAngryAngryAngry

How were you and DS after the birth?

NobleRot · 11/08/2019 20:03

@Ida, while I would love to claim that there is indeed a south London hunt that hunts in Brockwell Park, and I am the MFH (riding sidesaddle, obviously, and commanding hounds in fierce RP tones, while looking rather like Princess Anne), this would be a lie. Grin I am an ex south Londoner who does now live in hunting country. No country estate, alas.

I find the more upper class the American the more intimidated they can be by a British accent. I found some of then to be very cool and insecure around me which at first I didn't understand. But then I found that genuine Britishness is the one thing that money can't buy and also in their ignorance they had no idea I was an absolute nobody and my accent wasn't posh at all. This was 20+ years ago however and I was serving them from behind a cheese and wine counter or pouring wine as "help" in their home, not hobnobbing Grin! Times may have changed.

catofdoom · 11/08/2019 20:11

@IdaBWells his first apgar score was awful but the second one was fine. He was fine as soon as they got him breathing. Longest moments of my life though.

I was fine apart from the fact that in all the hours of pushing I also managed to push my bladder partly out. Angry

I've definitely found the hostile people to be the less travelled and I hate to say it but it's pretty much always Republicans.

I don't do things on the phone if I can help it like book hotels, car repairs etc as I feel like people think I'm foreign and charge me more!

NobleRot Brockwell Park Grin!

The soft spot Americas can have for Brits does mean your accent opens doors. I have even had people bitching about "immigrants" to me as if we are birds of a feather of which I have needed to point out the obvious Hmm. Sad to say they might usher me into their inner circle while blanking a much better educated doctor or engineer from Morocco or Pakistan. Although to be fair, where I live has become very international and diverse over the past 20 years. Large populations from India, China, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Russia etc.and people are very warm and welcoming to each other generally. I am speaking of when I was first here in 1996/97 and the people I am talking about would be in their 70s and 80s now.

IdaBWells · 11/08/2019 20:25

Ah well what's a little loose body part between friends? Have you seen that thread about the MNer checking out her "undercarriage" after giving birth?

Somerset UK....it’s no metropolis but we love it.

catofdoom · 11/08/2019 21:08

@IdaBWells on the birth notes is "16.45 - "where's my fucking dentist Xanax?" and "give me some fucking vodka". BlushGrin

My midwives were shocked I think. I'd presented this lovely, hippy, gentle person to them over the months and turned in to full, North London ghetto lass!

OP posts:
IdaBWells · 11/08/2019 21:49

Well who hasn't started roaring or demanding relief of various kinds? In labour all bets are off. I don't think I could keep vodka down though.

IdaBWells · 11/08/2019 21:52

Blimey I just got chewed up and spat out by MN. Note to self, NEVER start a thread on birth stories.

IdaBWells · 11/08/2019 22:14

catofdoom what happened to the cat?

JengaNonConfirming · 11/08/2019 22:52
