Since there have been a few hair related threads lately I thought people might have questions.

TY again! Flowers

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 19:33

@pacmansGapingmaw the grey thing is still going as far as I can see. Balayage still hugely popular. Bobs are growing in popularity among my clients again, and fringes. Bloody fringesGrin I’m hearing a lot about chocolate cake hair at the minute too. Not much on google really but it’s kind of like balayage for brunettes with warm coppers and caramel tones

Since having a black henna tattoo im allergic to hair dye. Are there any brands you know of that are hypoallergenic?

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 19:38

@galwaygirl I never use gloves at the backwash. Ever. It’s either as Redken said a dermatitis flare up but more commonly to protect their nails or tan. Its never ever because of you or your hair so just ignore it! Smile to yourself at their vanity!

@jacktomydaniel I keep saying this and I sound like a broken record but bring pictures of what you want! If it’s just to cover the grey and match with your natural colour that’s very straightforward but if you want a change bring pictures! They really do speak a thousand words😊

Is hair everything?

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 19:44

@Lwmommy ppd is the major allergen in colour. It’s probably that that’s causing your reaction. The darker the colour the more ppd it has generally. There is a professional one. It’s called MyColour by alter ego and it is ppd free and can be used by even the most reactive people. Hopefully you can find a salon, look on the Facebook page alter ego Italy uk and they should have a salon guide.

@Rufflecrow maybe not everything but it’s right up there! I think hair is very important and I think it has the power to transform. To make people feel amazing or to make them feel crap. I love that my job is to make people feel good about themselves.

I decided recently that I really wanted my hair curly without having to constantly curl it (it was curly as a kid but sadly its just unevenly wavy now) and figured I'd get a perm. However I'm struggling to find pictures of permed hair in the style/shape of cut I want. Could I just take in pictures of curly hair in the right cut or would that be unhelpful? And do you prefer people to bring pictures printed or just on their phone?

lisamac28 · 16/04/2019 19:47

Do you ever get bored of cutting the same styles every day I'm just back from hairdressers after getting my bob cut in again

brizzlemint · 16/04/2019 19:55

@Brizzlemint honestly? We’re probably thinking we won’t hire them if they ever come enquiring🤣🤣

I was asked once and not in a complimentary zone of voice. They were Shock when I said 'here'

Another question, my hair is really curly but when I brush it it just goes straight, it'll go back to curly during the day but how can I keep my curls? It's all new to me as I've only had curly hair for the last 12 months, it was totally straight before.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 19:56

@fmowersinaugust pictures in your phone are perfect. Find as many as you can but be warned perm rods are small. I haven’t seen big ones in years so the curl you get might not be the curl you want

@lisamac28 no I don’t because every head is different and even though it’s the same cut for you your hairdresser has probably done loads of different ones the same day. And it’s a compliment to them if you love it enough to keep going back for the same style.

I have ashy brown hair with some natural glints of blond and copper. I’ve previously always had blonde highlights and last had blonde balayage done at the end of last summer. I’d like to change it up a bit and try some strawberry blonde balayage. Is this something I could do with my hair colour?! And what could I ask for to ensure it lasts longer? I’d just like a slightly light red colour for something different!

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 20:02

@brizzlemint oh I’ve asked a client that before and been told that a hairdresser friend of mine did it. It looked like she’s used her teeth🤣🤷🏻‍♀️

If you want to keep your curls out the hairbrush away! Don’t brush it. Was it, comb out knots in the shower, wrap in a towel for 15 minutes and leave it alone! Or apply whatever products you like. Hard to recommend products for curly hair because it doesn’t like silicon and everyone is different! Try some out and you’ll find what suits you. Google the curly girl!!

@Appletree09 it absolutely is possible, again I’d say find pictures of something you love, be very clear about what it is and try to get them to use an actual colour in a strawberry blonde as opposed to a toner over blonde. It will last linger that way, also be careful what you use on it afterwards. Shampoo has a big impact on how well your colour lasts

*longer!

Flowerplower · 16/04/2019 20:23

My stylist said she wouldn't cut my hair shorter than a slightly above chin length style because then she would have to cut above the hairline in the back. Why would it have been a problem to cut it shorter as many people do have their hair short of course. Did she mean it wouldn't look good on me or that it would be more work for her? I'm growing my grey out so wanted to go quite short to get rid of the remaining dyed part quickly.

flowersinaugust · 16/04/2019 20:27

LorelaiRoryEmily Thank you! I'm currently using a chopstick wand to curl my hair and I'm hoping to get curls that are a similar style so I reckon small rods won't bother me at all Smile

NewYoiker · 16/04/2019 20:33

What do you think of the dyson airwrap?

Bluelonerose · 16/04/2019 20:35

Hi. I'm trying out shorter and shorter hair but not really sure what to ask for. I tend to ask for a bit shorter but it just doesn't look right.
Ideally I want something short enough that it's completely off my neck not flapping around my face but doesn't make me look like a man.
Any tips?

Chickenwing · 16/04/2019 20:38

Do you mind if people turn up with greasy hair? My hair goes greasy very quickly (like on day 2) but I hate washing it before going to the hairdressers just for them to wash it again.... also does greasy hair affect colour from foils sticking?

NewYoiker · 16/04/2019 20:40

Also I had chemo 2 years ago and lost my hair it's grown back now but it's changed colour and now it's so curly. Is this normal?

Can I do anything about the colour? It was very ginger, and now it's kinda of dark red but more brown but it's so upsetting as I loved my old hair colour! When I tried to colour it when I was younger it refused to colour at all because it's too porous? (No idea) if anything it's drier and thicker than it was before so can it be coloured? Or am I doomed to have sad dark hair forever now? :(

HungryForSnacks · 16/04/2019 20:43

I'd love to be able to have cool ash-brown hair with ash-blonde highlights but my hair always defaults back to warm red tones a week after visiting the hairdresser.

Is there any hope for me to have Ash-hair ever?!

sanmiguel · 16/04/2019 20:51

@NewYoiker
Sorry jumping in here but after chemo my hair was also initially very different after it grew back. Darker and thick, bushy curls. It did however calm down and is now much lighter (as it was before) and much thinner/straighter. Hope all going ok post chemo SmileThanks
