I still hear so many daft claims about certain aspects of living in KSA. Happy to confirm or deny what you've been told!

@famousfour it's only taken 33 pages, but thankfully they seem to have buggered off now 🙌

SeaEagleFeather · 03/05/2019 08:47

I suspect Mumsnet took a look at the thread and asked them to 'cease and desist"

Orchidflower1 · 03/05/2019 09:24

Thanks op

Shock at the gastric band thing!!

Shmithecat2 · 03/05/2019 09:59

@SeaEagleFeather do they do that?!!

PattyCow · 03/05/2019 10:10

They do if enough people report it as not being in the spirit of the site.

LimeKiwi · 03/05/2019 11:03

Confused [ people can have differing opinions, or ask questions you don't like. That's the nature of here!
They don't tell you to cease and desist at all. If you were constantly being deleted or abusive you'd probably be contacted though to behave Smile

SeaEagleFeather · 03/05/2019 13:43

They do indeed ask people to step away from threads if their input is consistently unhelpful enough.

it's got to be pretty extreme though, they don't do it for simple disagreements and differences of opinion and they don't do it all in AIBU. But given enough unpleasantness in ohter topics, they will.

Orchidflower1 · 03/05/2019 20:11

seaeagle I did not know that so thanks for the info.

SeaEagleFeather · 03/05/2019 20:26

yw ... I've reported a few threads over the years and sometimes you get feedback that it's just a difference of opinion and sometimes you get told 'we've asked that poster to concentrate her efforts elsewhere"

It does have to be really fairly extreme though

Claire1987luck · 04/05/2019 10:38

I saw you mention you have Doctor friends, is it possible to work in a clinic only catering for ex-pats?

Claire1987luck · 04/05/2019 10:49

One more question if I mayGrin

You mentioned that your husband had 30 years experience in his industry, do they generally recruit more experienced candidates ?

Shmithecat2 · 04/05/2019 11:12

@Claire1987luck

Not that I'm aware of. I'm not sure how it would work tbh. As it's all private healthcare (apart from for Saudi Nationals), you tend to go straight to the hospital to see a specialist, rather than a GP, and you can't really pick who you treat.

You mentioned that your husband had 30 years experience in his industry, do they generally recruit more experienced candidates?

Not necessarily! One of the best recruits my dh ever had was a 26yo Scottish guy - so very young, but just brilliant. But to get into a fairly high position (Head of, Director etc), same as the UK, that kind of job requires a bit of experience which is generally gained over a fair amount of time.

Claire1987luck · 04/05/2019 17:27

Thanks shmithecat2.

I'm also sorry, but I must correct you! Family medicine is also specialisationWink I know you meant there is no focus on primary care, but GP's also work hard Wink

That's a shame, I would be a little apprehensive to work there in that case. I've heard from other Dr's working in ME countries that the locals can be a lot more demanding and they tend to blame Doctors for things, then of course there is the issue of autonomy.

Sounds like you have made a great choice for your family though.

Shaggydog99 · 06/05/2019 02:21

Would you move to Brunei if the salary was good enough?

Shmithecat2 · 06/05/2019 11:26

@Shaggydog99

Possibly, never really looked into it. Glad the Sultan has addressed the law about execution of gays. Hope he keeps his word.

Tiscold · 06/05/2019 12:10

Well this thread took a turn for the worse Grin

ColdCottage · 07/05/2019 23:53

Did you give birth there? What was that like?

Shmithecat2 · 08/05/2019 14:17

@ColdCottage

No, I didn't.

ColdCottage · 09/05/2019 00:10

Did you fly back to the U.K. to give birth? I hear that's a thing.

Shmithecat2 · 09/05/2019 04:56

@ColdCottage

Did you fly back to the U.K. to give birth? I hear that's a thing.

No, it's not a thing really. Many many expat women stay in KSA to give birth. There are some fantastic obstetricians in Riyadh.

ColdCottage · 09/05/2019 08:33

I just wondered. Some of my friends friends who lived in the Middle East flew back to have their children but they may have been in more remote locations.

Learntheropes · 22/05/2019 15:11

Saudi Arabia to execute three scholars after Ramadan

How the fuck can anyone support this country?

LimeKiwi · 15/06/2019 22:21

Beyond me @LearnTheRopes!
