I still hear so many daft claims about certain aspects of living in KSA. Happy to confirm or deny what you've been told!

i know when I'm beaten, moussemoose, I wouldnt dare try to persuade you of anything.

Moussemoose · 13/10/2018 12:42

You can't persuade me that beheading children is wrong - the implication is that you want to. That I am unreasonable to think it is a bad thing.

The fact that you want me to consider a point of view where stoning adulterous women is an option does not reflect well on you.

You want to paint me as the unreasonable person with entrenched views when you are the one implicitly supporting a regime that murders journalists.

Could I persuade you that public execution is a bad thing? If you are more 'open minded' than me can I change your mind that public crucifixion is a reasonable punishment?

You could persuade me about lots of things, but you are not going to persuade me that treating women as second class citizens is good.

SeaEagleFeather · 13/10/2018 14:59

It's quite curious to watch your thought processes, although - and im not in any way trying for humour now - a little bit disturbing.

Im slightly curious, did no one ever tell you that it's a very bad thing to assume you know what other people are thinking, and to try to control their thoughts? anyway, I'm out.

Anyway, OP, I found it really interesting to read your posts, get a tiny glimpse into your life and Im a bit sorry for tweaking mousse's nose and derailing further.

Moussemoose · 13/10/2018 16:42

I didn't tell you what you were thinking @SeaEagleFeather. I used the term "implication" specifically.

By suggesting my thinking was fixed you implied I needed to be more open minded. You were critical about the fact I was 'grinding my axe' again a reasonable inference from this is that you did not agree with the points I was making.

The tone of your post suggested you did not agree with me and that I was being inflexible in not looking at another point of view.

My opinions are "entrenched" and can't be moved - that sounds like criticism. You claim I'm "not interested in any other comments".

I don't claim to know what you are thinking but looking at what you have posted I have drawn these conclusions. That's kind of how MN works.

Considering the subject matter is the KSA which indulges in public crucifixions and regularly beheads children you are entirely correct my opinions are very "entrenched".

The corollary to that is that your opinions are not entrenched (unlike mine) and you think we should consider what the KSA has to offer as a viable option.

In terms of what is and is not disturbing you find my comments disturbing I find public executions disturbing. I know which one most people would be more bothered about.

Defrack · 14/10/2018 10:59

I agree that some of the practises are abhorrent in the KSA.

However just because OP lives there doesn't mean she supports these policies or in anyway likes these policies. OP isn't responsible for the policies and shouldn't be made to feel guilty about her choices.

Otherwise is every citizen in America also a bad person as they've the death penalty in many states there. Is every American citizen bad because they've a racist and sexist president?
Is every citizen of the UK racist because we voted brexit?

The answer is NO. The OP is trying to make a life for herself and her family that provides them with the best quality of life. She isn't responsible for the government's actionsb

Moussemoose · 14/10/2018 12:08

If you read my post of 8th Aug 18:39. I address the point about the OP not being responsible. She isn't responsible but she is colluding with and by implication supporting the regime.

Would you Defrack go to the house of a know child abuser? I would hope not.

Someone born in a country has a different set of responsibilities and obligations to someone who chooses to go and live there especially if you are just doing it for the cash.

SeaEagleFeather · 14/10/2018 14:03

OP sorry if I've missed this but do you get to socialise much with ordinary Saudi families?

SegmentationFault · 04/11/2018 12:27

I wonder if you still think MBS is so great?

YenneferOfVengerberg · 29/11/2018 08:55

@Shmithecat

Sorry to bump an old thread but you can't seriously still think that the crown prince is some liberal revolutionary.

makingmiracles · 21/12/2018 07:44

@shmithecat what do you think of the situation with princess Latifa?
Do you believe she is still alive?

Whowouldfardelsbear · 21/12/2018 08:52

Late to this thread, and just read it the whole way through - thank you moussemouse for sticking with it and your points. I am shocked that other posters seem to be getting at you for being "stubborn" in your belief that human rights are questionable in KSA.

setAsProfile · 29/12/2018 14:30

I've read this with interest as DH and I are moving to Saudi next academic year.

Are you still around @Shmitheca

Such a lovely country.

SegmentationFault · 08/01/2019 13:24

@setAsProfile Why?

BalloonFlowers · 09/01/2019 09:19

@setAsProfile
I tried messaging you, but cant. I'm not the OP, but am in KSA. Happy to chat if you want to.

Can't help but wonder if OP was being paid.

Are you going to respond @Shmithecat? Or are you no longer a paid shill of the Saudi Arabian state?

SeaEagleFeather · 10/03/2019 12:34

Dear god, an OP doesn't happen to come back to the thread - which turned really weird and soapboxy - and now she's a paid agent of another country.

Sometimes Mumsnet is like a fantasy world.

Tiscold · 14/03/2019 13:19

Christ alive, the op answered most questions and left and may have forgot about the thread or changed names due to the attacks etc.

That doesn't make her a paid agent. Or are you lot paid agents to discredit the ksa?hmmm... you could be!

SeaEagleFeather · 14/03/2019 16:37

They're certainly pretty good woodcutters, to judge by how well they grind an axe :D

Windowsareforcheaters · 14/03/2019 22:18

Grinding the axe and standing on a soap box and banging on about human rights is nothing to be ashamed of.

If you are getting irritated by people saying that beheading is a bad thing then that reflects upon you not them.

It's a shame you are bored by those annoying people who want to stop the KSA torturing people. Fancy that.

Itssosunny · 20/03/2019 11:02

The End

SeaEagleFeather · 20/03/2019 12:36

Grinding the axe and standing on a soap box It's generally pretty ineffective tho. Especially when you're ascribing emotions to other people (irritated, bored) that are simply inaccurate.

Anyway, I really will bow out now, nowt I can do.

Shmithecat2 · 26/04/2019 10:56

Sorry, I'm here! And yes, still in Saudi. When MN logged us all out, I couldn't remember which email was linked to my account or the password, so created this new one. Hence I wasn't getting notifications. I'll go through what I've missed. LMAO at paid shill though 😂😂
