Op , you are so articulate.
I really envy your customers, I would so love to have a hairdresser who could talk about intersectional feminism.

Ohyesiam · 06/08/2018 23:41

Sorry just read my post from yesterday and it sounds like I’m being sarcastic or dissing my usual hairdressers.! I didn’t mean either, just that it would be great to have those discussions while having my hair doneBlush

Ohyesiam Grin I didn't read it like that at all. But you're right, most hairdressers I've met aren't particularly feminist-leaning.

I don't force all my clients to discuss intersectional feminism (maybe I should?!) but if we get chatting about something that offends my feminist principles then I'll certainly make that clear. I told a client off the other day for saying her adult son was "babysitting" his own children Shock Grin

@VauxhallVectra just coming on to echo what others have said: I find you and your story very inspiring. I also think you wound wonderfully placed for an academic or somehow advisory role.

Have you ever asked your DD for her perspective?

bobstersmum · 07/08/2018 22:40

You really sound like you have done an amazing job bringing up your child, while being so young yourself. While not ideal as you say, you made it work.

VauxhallVectra · 08/08/2018 10:51

Ah thanks @bobstersmum and @OVienna You're very kind Smile

I haven't really asked my DD for her perspective as such but I've always been completely honest with her about things (that I was too young, that my mum fucked me over etc.). I'm really honest with her now, telling her that I can see the benefits of having had children young (though 15 is a bit too young!).

DD basically agrees with my reading of the situation and we've discussed at length the issues of there never being a right time for women to have children. I guess when she was younger she didn't really have a choice because I sort of presented my reading of the whole situation as the truth but as she's got older I think I've given her the space to make up her own mind about it and she's still on the same page as me.

She's decided children will ruin her life whatever age she has them so she's planning on being child-free for now Grin
