I was in a closed prison for 2 months then 4 months in an open prison. It was 5 years ago for a 'white collar' crime.

I know a lot of my friends irl always had lots of questions so wondered if you lot had the same?!

Did you make friends and if so do you keep in touch? If so are you planning a heist?

buckeejit · 10/07/2018 17:11

What was the best, worst & most surprising thing about it?

Sunshiness · 10/07/2018 17:12

How did you feel?

BIWI · 10/07/2018 17:14

What did you do? And, more importantly, why?

0range99 · 10/07/2018 17:14

How were you treated in prison?
How were you treated on release from prison?
Are you open about it to people?

MalloryLaurel · 10/07/2018 17:14

How friendly we're the other prisoners?
How much bullying was there?
Did you have to make a shiv?
We're the guards kind?

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 10/07/2018 17:15

Have you found it hard to get work as a result of being in prison?

puguin86 · 10/07/2018 17:16

If you have children do they come visit you. Do your family visit

Harrykanesrightsock · 10/07/2018 17:18

What is the food like. And did you lose weight or put weight on?

NameChanger1987 · 10/07/2018 17:19

Amyerda I did sort of make friends but no I didn't keep in touch, they were more like colleagues!

buckeejit The closed prison was truly awful and really quite scary. The open prison was more like Groundhog Day. Every day was identical to the last so just very boring. The 'best' if you can call it that was learning how to make all kinds of meals in a kettle!

sunshiness I felt very alone and homesick.

BIWI fraud- I fiddled with mortgages, I did it for money. Thought I was being clever.

OP posts:
BIWI · 10/07/2018 17:23

Why did you think you were being clever? (Sorry, that sounds judgemental - I'm genuinely interested in your thought processes)

Mouseville65 · 10/07/2018 17:25

Was there violence between the prisoners? What was it like on your first day?

BlancheM · 10/07/2018 17:26

Did you feel you were in the minority having committed a white collar crime and did that affect the sense of camaraderie with the other prisoners?

PugwallsSummer · 10/07/2018 17:27

What was the food like?

Did you have a job in there?

DryHeave · 10/07/2018 17:28

Are you male or female?

NameChanger1987 · 10/07/2018 17:30

Orange99 In the closed prison I was treated, sort of like an animal that might be dangerous. The searches etc. are clearly designed to humiliate and beat you down. In the open prison, I was treated fine. I live in a small community so I was lucky in so far as people knew me already so more thought I was an idiot rather than evil. I'm not open about it at all to new people.

MalloryLaurel I didn't see any bullying in the closed prison but I had no time to see people, I was kept in my pad most of the time and the girl I shared with was OK. In the open prison some women brought me coffee and a radio on my first night. The guards/screws were arseholes in the closed and mostly fine in the open. I defo did not make a shiv!

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale I was lucky enough to find a job with a friend pretty much straightaway.

Puguin86 I had 2 children at the time and yes they came to visit. My family visited too.

HarryKanesrightsock I lost a load of weight and the food was OK- in a school dinner way. We would save up dried noodles and sauces etc. to make food in the kettle- very weird.

How did you get caught?

Itscominghomeyesitis · 10/07/2018 17:32

Are you male or female? Female prisons are infinitely better environments than male .

lottsco · 10/07/2018 17:33

Was it like orange is the new black in anyway?

Whisky2014 · 10/07/2018 17:33

Well from prevous answers we know shes female..

Itscominghomeyesitis · 10/07/2018 17:35

Oh I missed the sharing with girl bit sorry.

Womens prisons are far easier. Still unpleasant however.

NameChanger1987 · 10/07/2018 17:36

BIWI I just thought 'oh if I do this, I'll get this and nobody will know'. Just really stupid.

Mouseville65 My first day I pretty much bottled everything but really wanted to cry. It was very loud and lots of shouting. I didn't see any violence in either other than friends having a push/shove.

BlancheM No people don't ask what you did. When you've got to know people they might tell you. In the closed I didn't have any opportunity to make friends, I don't know if it's normal or they were doing something but I was locked up pretty much all the time, only out for meals and a short time outside. In the open prison I made friends with the women who brought the coffee and radio.

PugwallsSummer Yes I got a job doing gardening. Food was like school dinners.

DryHeave I'm female.

Whisky2014 By insurance, the info on the insurance didn't match the mortgage. I was stupid, I have no idea how I thought I'd get away with it. I'm no criminal mastermind!

lottsco Other than gossiping instead of working, absolutely not!

NameChanger1987 · 10/07/2018 17:52

I wasn't married but my partner didn't know and was very shocked/angry/disappointed.
