No eggs or onions. Our portions are generous- we love to see you full and happy.
-I prefer scraps to chips-.
Not confirming my location, busy enough without you guys coming in and quizzing me 😂

what about pea wet?

TheQueef · 01/07/2018 18:10

Red hot scraps loaded with salt that burn your fingertips......

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/07/2018 18:11

Oh thought of one
How do you clean the fryers?

My own DeepFat Fryer is a 4 litre Magimix . love it , but its a bugger to clean.
Do you soak them in something or boil them? Or is it just a case of detergent and a scrubby thing?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 01/07/2018 18:12

Queef is right, proper fish cakes are a South Yorkshire thing. DH was beyond flummoxed when he moved to Sheffield.

(That and breadcakes) .

x2boys · 01/07/2018 18:12

left of the fish even!

Starlightjazz · 01/07/2018 18:12

I want trade secrets to make the perfect chippie shop chips? Fresh potato or frozen? What type of potato? Cooking methods ie par cooked? Twice cooked?

Chipshop123 · 01/07/2018 18:12

Pea wet? No idea sorry!
We have cleaners in to do it. The range comes apart for cleaning.. every single night we clean everything removable. A specialist company does the rest. Hot soapy water works a dream. No fancy cleaning fluids for us :)

Fresh pots every time. Maris Pipers are well loved.
Never twice cooked- though we did have a stage of people asking. It's a ball ache so no.
We're proper old school 😀

pea wet is the juice off the mushy peas , it might be a Bolton thing?

GorgeousJaws · 01/07/2018 18:16

I'm pretty close by in Rochdale x2boys and I've never heard pea wet.

Chipshop123 · 01/07/2018 18:16

No pea juice for us. We cook our peas from dried so no real juice left. I love chip shop idiosyncrasis from other places.

Star perfect chips need the Heston Bluementhal Triple Cooked Method.

My DC friends used to ask me to make them chips when they visited, they were legendary Grin

x2boys · 01/07/2018 18:19

try it Gorgeous ? tis a delicacy Grin

TheQueef · 01/07/2018 18:20

Pea wet (or tomato dip/wet at breakfast time) is around in south yorkshire.

I have a big Dutch family and whenever they visit we celebrate with a chippy buffet. They seriously love it.

I can accept strange regional names for breadcakes but the fake fishcakes are just a disappointment.

GorgeousJaws · 01/07/2018 18:22

I'm going to ask for it! Grin

OrdinaryGirl · 01/07/2018 18:23

NOW I WANT FISH AND CHIPS. 😠

x2boys · 01/07/2018 18:24

i dare you to ask for fish ,chips ,scraps and pea wet? Grin

ineedwine99 · 01/07/2018 18:25

Do you mind when someone wants a fish with no batter? So floured then fried

TheQueef · 01/07/2018 18:26

Ask for paper wrap, not a tray.
The polystyrene makes the scraps sweat.

WindyWednesday · 01/07/2018 18:27

Now I want a fish and chips with scraps.

My local chippy owner told me that the scraps can spontaneously combust. They had a fire and it was due to that. She said there’s a very very slim chance of your scraps combusting on the way home.

GorgeousJaws · 01/07/2018 18:28

I think I'll just call it pea juice for starters, and them bits off t'fish Grin

x2boys · 01/07/2018 18:29

Gorgeous GrinGrin

ILikeyourHairyHands · 01/07/2018 18:31

Ha Queef, we also have a large Dutch family who insist on a visit to the chippy when they visit!
