Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep review featuring two images of the machine in testing and one main image of product

Price on writing: £140

Overall rating:
What we like
  • Easy to set up and use for first time (our tester recommends using the app instructions rather than the booklet)

  • Makes formula feeding a newborn easier

  • Easy to keep clean

  • Good value for money even when combined with breastfeeding

What we don't like
  • Measurements are in fluid ounces rather than ml which can be confusing

  • You have just two minutes to mix the powder and hot water before the machine resets, making multitasking harder

  • Great for the newborn phase, potentially less useful as baby grows up

How we tested the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep

Mum-of-one and parent tester Tamsin used the Perfect Prep over a testing period of several months while combination feeding her newborn. During this period, she used the machine for daytime feeds when she wasn't breastfeeding and for the occasional nighttime feed.

"As our newborn needs feeding every three hours, we used the Perfect Prep around four times a day on average." - Mumsnet tester Tamsin

How easy was the Perfect Prep to set up and use first time?

"Set up was easy, with helpful instructions included with the machine and through the app. There was minimal set up required in terms of getting the machine going, and the main consideration was ensuring the filter was cleaned before use."

"The machine is easy to use, but I’d suggest following the app instructions rather than the booklet in the box." - Mumsnet tester Tamsin

How does the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine work?

"Measure out the formula powder, press how many fluid ounces of water you need and press the on button. The first shot of water comes out (hot), then you stir the mixture and put it back under for the cold water to be added."

"We use this when we’re at home and when I’m not breastfeeding, so for the afternoon and early evening feeds." - Mumsnet tester Tamsin

How long does it take to prepare a bottle?

"It’s super quick to prepare a bottle, I’d say on average it takes three minutes as I usually do it while I’m changing my son."

Does the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine make formula feeding easier?

"It certainly makes formula feeding easier and quicker in comparison to waiting for a bottle to cool down in the traditional way. However, you do only have two minutes to mix the powder and hot shot of water, so if you're changing a nappy at the same time, you need to be aware of this. If you don't mix within the two minutes, the machine resets, and you need to let the hot shot come out before putting the cold shot in."

Is the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine easy to clean?

"Yes, it's very easy to keep clean, and the app tells you how to clean it and when."

How long do you think you will use the Perfect Prep machine?

"We'll continue to use it while our son is a newborn, but as feeds start to reduce and we move to solids I can see us moving away from using it quite so much."

What would you change about the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine?

"The app is good in terms of keeping on top of cleaning, but I thought there’d be more features, such as starting the process hands-free. Also the measurements are in oz which can be slightly confusing when you're used to dealing with millilitres."
