If you're looking for something heated and wearable, but close-fitting heated gilets aren't for you, this versatile heated wrap is a great alternative. I love that it opens out flat and can double as a mini heated throw - perfect for draping over my knees while I'm working from home.

Lined with soft, velvety fleece and with high-quality, recycled polyester quilted outer, it's comfortable to wear and holds heat well. I like that the heated wires are distributed down the front and back of the wrap, giving you an even spread of warmth where you need it.

I tend to get chilliest on my neck, so the wrap's high, heated collar works really well for me. There are three heat levels to choose from, all accessed via one chunky button on the front of the wrap.

At £100, it's a little cheaper than an Ororo Heated Gilet, but about twice the price of a Mia & Coco Heated Throw, so it's a good buy if you want that mix of cordless versatility and snuggly comfort.

How I tested

I tested the Thaw Heated Wrap over the course of four weeks at home on the South Coast of England. My home office is super draughty so I was able to put the wrap through its paces at my desk, as well as over a jumper while walking the dogs in dry but cold weather.

Is the Thaw Heated Wrap easy to operate?

With just one button located at the front of the wrap, it's very straightforward to use. There are three heat levels - long press to turn the wrap on and the button glows red (highest heat setting), then short press to toggle between the different heat levels, indicated by amber (45°C), orange (50°C) and red (55°C) lights.

The battery is unavoidably quite heavy, and sits in a discreet pocket on the inside of the wrap, with a Velcro fastening. The wrap comes with a USB-C charger, and the battery takes a few hours to reach full charge.

Does the Thaw Heated Wrap keep you warm?

Yes, very warm. The snuggly lining is really cosy, and the tougher outer keeps heat from escaping. The collar of the wrap comes up quite high, so it keeps my neck warm, too.

With ten heated zones, I was really impressed with the distribution of warmth. It's designed with versatility in mind, so it can be laid out on the ground, or draped over your (and a friend's) legs or shoulders to take the edge off a chilly evening round the fire pit.

From a full charge, the wrap can run at the highest heat setting for an impressive three hours, or four hours at the lowest setting. That's long enough for a long walk, but won't keep going for a whole working day.

Is the Thaw Heated Wrap machine washable?

The Thaw Heated Wrap can be machine washed on a gentle/delicate cycle. You need to remove the battery and put the little rubber cap over the power cable (it's attached to the wire so it won't get lost).

It dries quickly - I popped it on a delicate wash last thing at night and it was dry and ready to use first thing the next morning. The lining does lose a little of its original silkiness after being washed, but it's still very soft and snuggly as I write this.

Is the Thaw Heated Wrap good value for money?

At £100, it's right in the middle of the price range for both heated throws and heated gilets. There aren't very many heated wraps on the market, and many of them only have one heating zone on the back.

The Thaw Heated Wrap has an impressive ten heating zones, and can function as a wearable shawl or a blanket. With a rechargeable battery and no cords, it's perfect for camping, too.

If you're looking for a versatile solution to staying warm without central heating at home and while out and about, it's a great product. Heated gilets can be worn anywhere too, but they can't double as a blanket like this heated wrap can. It's soft inside and made from high-quality materials - I think it's a really useful product to have on hand in the winter.
