if you're looking for an all-terrain pram that's both sturdy and easy to handle, the Cybex e-Gazelle S stroller is a great choice. After testing the e-Gazelle S for a few months – primarily as a double buggy with her toddler and six-month-old, mum Suze particularly liked the e-Gazelle S’s adjustable, ergonomic handle that makes steering a breeze, and large suspension wheels that allows the stroller to glide smoothly over rough terrain and uneven surfaces, both on and off road.

“The seats are well-padded, which kept my children comfortable on longer outings, and the spacious 23kg storage basket underneath the stroller is perfect for carrying essentials like snacks and a changing bag,” Suze adds.

A game-changing feature of the e-Gazelle S is its e-powered function, which works much like an e-bike, helping you push one or two children uphill and controlling your speed on downhills. The speed is managed by a lever on the handlebar that’s connected to a motor on the rear wheels, and the user-friendly interface lets you check battery life, and power the system on or off. Plus, this stroller has an automatic rocking system that moves gently back and forth to soothe and encourage sound sleep.

However, at just over 14kg, the e-Gazelle S is heavier than some other all-terrain prams, like the Out N About Nipper V5, which weighs under 10kg and Suze found it tricky to manoeuvre when testing it on public transport like trains and buses. If you're looking for something lighter, more compact, and nimble for navigating city life with your children in tow, check out our guide to the best lightweight strollers. Overall, Suze feels that the e-Gazelle S is best suited for suburban areas, parks, and light off-road paths, where its stability and storage capacity really come in handy.

How we tested the Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S stroller

  • Two months of using the e-Gazelle S multiple times a week as a double buggy with a two-year-old and six-month-old.

  • Used for neighbourhood walks around London, park visits, shopping trips, and visits to friends and family.

  • Taken on public transport including trains and buses

“We primarily used the e-Gazelle S around our home in North London, where most areas are flat and smooth. However, some streets like the tree-lined ones, are a bit rocky and have a slight incline, making them trickier to navigate with a stroller.

Suze also took the e-Gazelle S to a very hilly area near her home, which really put the stroller through its paces. She agrees that it performs well on public paths and surfaces like mud, gravel, and grass, though its weight makes it a little more challenging, especially when navigating public transport.

Once testing was complete, Suze scored the e-Gazelle S on eight key criteria, including: performance, quality and durability, ease of use, value for money, safety and stability, ease of folding and unfolding, comfort and storage.

Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S: what’s in the box?

  • Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S frame including wheels

  • Seat unit (hard parts and soft goods)

  • Shopping basket

  • Shopper basket (Can be attached to stroller in place of second seat)

  • Bumper bar

  • Sun canopy

  • Battery & charger

  • User guide

The e-Gazelle S can convert from a single to a double stroller (with two seats), or you can attach a compatible car seat like the Cybex Aton B2 i-Size, the latest Cybex Cloud G i-Size, or any Maxi-Cosi car seat like the Maxi-Cosi Nomad Plus (also featured in our best toddler car seat roundup) using the car seat adapters (sold separately). The Gazelle Second Seat and Gazelle S Cot (which is lightweight at only 4kg) are also available for purchase separately.

How easy is the Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S to assemble?

Very! One of the main benefits of the e-Gazelle S is that it’s ready to roll in minutes, with Suze adding that the initial assembly was incredibly easy, and she didn’t need any tools to put the stroller together. “We did follow the instructions in the user guide, but a lot of the set-up was self-explanatory,” she adds.

If you want to use the e-Gazelle S as a double stroller like Suze did, adding the second seat is simple. Start by locating the attachment points near the rear wheels, which are designed to securely hold the second seat. Then, align the connectors on the second seat with these points and ensure they click into place firmly.

Once the second seat is in place, adjusting the seating positions for both children is straightforward. The e-Gazelle S allows for various configurations, whether you want both seats facing forward, one facing you, or both seats reclining for naps. Plus, you can attach the Gazelle S Cot or compatible car seat for younger children.

Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S: how does it look?

Despite its heavier weight and wider frame, Suze loves the overall design of the e-Gazelle S. She says, “We got it in black and it looks sleek, stylish, and high end. I like our frame which is mat black, and the seats are sturdy, plush and comfortable. The materials are all excellent quality and you can see that attention has been given to every detail of the design.”

The e-Gazelle S offers the flexibility to use it with or without the bumper bar, depending on your preference. One of its key features is its versatility, allowing multiple configurations. You can attach a carry cot, car seat, or second seat, and the seats can be adjusted to be parent or world-facing depending on your child's age or needs. These different setups not only make the stroller highly functional but also change its overall appearance, giving it a fresh look as it adapts to various stages of use.

The e-Gazelle S frame is available in black, taupe or silver and you have the option of choosing between six colours including Moon Black on the black frame, Stormy Blue, Seashell Beige or Almond Beige on the taupe frame or Stone Grey or Ocean Blue on the silver frame.

Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S: is it safe and sturdy?

Yes, it is. Thanks to its larger back wheels and enhanced suspension, the e-Gazelle S is designed to glide smoothly over uneven terrain, offering more safety and stability for little passengers. When it comes to securing your children in the seat, Suze likens it to a car seat, saying, “It feels very sturdy, and you can fasten one strap at a time, which is really helpful when your little one is reluctant to head out the door!"

Additionally, there’s little to no risk of the stroller toppling over during use. However, Suze notes that it didn’t feel balanced when folded. “This could be due to human error, as I struggled to fold it flat at times,” she adds.

Overall, the stroller is a safe, reliable choice but when using it in double mode, Suze points out a few considerations. “The child in the lower seat can feel a bit more distant and exposed, even though the stroller offers a parent-facing option. We found that with our toddler’s longer legs, it was tricky to decide whether to place her or our six-month-old in the bottom seat. Navigating certain terrains, like curbs felt a little more challenging in double mode but this improved with time as we got used to it.”

How comfortable is the Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S?

While the stroller is generally comfortable, Suze mentions a few things to keep in mind, especially for taller children. She explains, “The padded shoulder straps are great for babies and easy to adjust, but a small plastic piece under the strap can be uncomfortable for taller children like my two-year-old.

Although the seat offers three recline options - 90°, 135°, and 180°- my toddler often bumped her knees against the bumper bar due to the limited legroom. However, the bumper bar can be removed if additional space is needed. The leg adjustments are also limited to three settings.

The seats are snug and comfortable, and although my eldest said she likes them, she prefers the roomier seats of our Uppa Baby Vista. While the completely flat recline is perfect for my six-month-old, when my toddler lies flat in the lower seat, she’s positioned further away from me, which I find less convenient.

On the positive side, the e-Gazelle S offers a range of flexible configurations, making it versatile for different needs. The handlebar is incredibly comfortable, extending easily to accommodate various heights. I often use it at its full length (I am 5’6”) and find it easy to push, but I can see it working well for much taller parents. The soft faux leather adds to the overall comfort and style of the stroller."

What is the Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S stroller like to use day-to-day?

It’s great! In all honesty, the e-Gazelle S is a breeze to use on country walks and over longer distances, thanks to its gentle motor assistance on uphill climbs and controlled descent on slopes. No need to worry about the stroller rolling away from you, the motor is equipped with smart sensors that monitor the stroller's speed and the amount of force being applied by the user. This allows the system to adjust the level of assistance provided based on how much effort you’re exerting and your preferences for different terrains. For example, it offers more support when you’re pushing harder and less when you’re cruising.

The brake is also easy to engage and secure; however, Suze feels that the wheels lack grip, which can make it challenging to fold the stroller on smooth surfaces like wooden floors.

One standout feature is the decelerator, which allows for greater control when walking downhill, making it feel much safer and more comfortable, especially when configured as a double buggy.

“When used with a single seat, there’s ample storage for bags and shopping, along with a separate removable shopping basket, though this setup requires your child to sit further away. In double mode, space is more limited, but you can still manage a handbag or changing bag at your child’s feet. The sun canopy is excellent, fully extendable, and includes a sun visor, though it doesn’t always provide adequate shade when children are lying down,” explains Suze.

Another useful feature of the e-Gazelle S is its motorised rocking function, a first in stroller technology. “I mainly used this function during those moments when we returned home and my children were asleep while unloading the pushchair, to avoid waking them. The rocking lasts for a few minutes, which is usually enough to help them stay asleep. The battery life is impressive and charges quickly; I charged the stroller weekly but used it very little, even with a heavy load.”

How well does Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S stroller handle rough terrain?

As a sturdy all-terrain pram, the e-Gazelle S can handle most situations, and Suze believes the motor assistance is only really necessary on steep or hilly terrain that can exhaust parents. “For us, the best feature is the decelerate function, which stops the stroller from running away on downhill slopes."

Is the Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S stroller easy to use on public transport?

The Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S can be a bit challenging to use on public transport, especially when configured as a double buggy. However, in single mode it would be a lot easier to manoeuvre.

“Tipping the front to get onto a bus and navigating tight corners can be tricky. Due to its weight, I opted not to try it on the tube, as managing it on an escalator felt too risky,” says Suze. That being said, it has a great compact fold and can fit in most car boots comfortably, despite its size.

Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S stroller: how easy is it to fold?

Suze found the e-Gazelle S easier to fold in single mode compared to double mode, but she eventually got the hang of it.

To fold the e-Gazelle S in single mode, first fold the stroller seat in half, then press the handlebar buttons, squeeze the safety lever at the left of the handlebar, and lower the handle to fold the stroller frame. When folded, the frame locks in place automatically and the stroller can stand on its own.

While most double buggies with tandem seats require removing the second seat before folding, you can fold the e-Gazelle S with both seats attached- a great time saver! With the upper seat forward facing and the lower seat rear facing, lift the upper seat to ensure the leg rest sits over the lower seat’s bumper bar, then push the handlebar buttons to lower the frame and raise the lower seat’s backrest into place. You can also fold the stroller with both seats forward facing or both seats rear-facing, although the fold might not be as compact as it would be with the seats tucked in.

Rain covers on Cybex e-Gazelle S stroller

Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S stroller: Does it come with accessories?

Absolutely! The e-Gazelle S comes with rain covers, which Suze appreciated. She remarked, “They’re easy to put on, and the zip feature allows us to adjust their length, ensuring our children stay dry and protected. The material feels quite sturdy and doesn’t seem prone to tearing.”

The e-Gazelle S also comes with a bumper bar and large shopper basket (that can hold 23kg) that can be attached to the top of the frame in place of a seat when using it in single mode. As mentioned above, the car seat adapters, second seat and carrycot are sold separately.

Does the Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S stroller fit in the boot of your car? How much space does it take up?

Suze notes that this stroller occupies only slightly more space than an average pushchair, which is impressive given its robust size and weight. “I have a Kia Sportage, and there’s plenty of room for the stroller along with groceries or other bags.” However, it is quite heavy to lift into the boot and may require some manoeuvring.

Is the Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S stroller easy to clean?

Yes, Suze says this stroller is easy to clean because the fabrics can be removed.

To clean the e-Gazelle S, start by removing the fabric components, such as the seat cover and canopy, and washing them either by hand or on a gentle machine cycle with cold water. Always air dry the fabric to avoid damage. For the frame, use a damp cloth and mild soap to wipe down all surfaces, and dry it afterward to prevent rust. Just be cautious around the electronic components—only use a slightly damp cloth near them.

Lastly, clean the wheels and suspension by removing debris and wiping them with a damp cloth.

Do you think the Cybex Gold e-Gazelle S stroller is good value for money?

Suze feels that, although the e-Gazelle S is more expensive than other all-terrain prams like the UPPAbaby Vista V2, its solid build and multiple configurations make it worth the price. The stroller's ability to accommodate more than one child enhances its functionality and longevity as your family grows. Its standout feature is the e-powered function, which reduces the effort required to push it uphill or on longer walks, adding convenience. For those on a budget, the original Cybex Gazelle S (without the electric motor) remains a great option and is around £300 cheaper than the e-Gazelle S.
