Cybex Talos S Lux review: a versatile all-terrain travel system that’s practical from day one

Parent tester Ash tested the Cybex Talos S Lux with her newborn and toddler across daily walks, park trips, car journeys, public transport and even a trip to Butlin's. She found it strikingly smooth to push, roomy enough for different ages and genuinely useful for everyday family life.

Our verdict

The Cybex Talos S Lux stands out as a genuinely capable all-terrain travel system that delivers on both performance and day-to-day practicality.

Parent tester Ash tested the travel system out over the course of a month with her newborn and toddler. It proved itself across a wide range of environments - from pavements and park grass to buses, trains and car journeys - delivering the kind of versatility many all-terrain travel systems promise but don’t always achieve.

What stood out most to Ash was the ride quality. She repeatedly commented on how smooth it felt - so much so that her partner jokingly dubbed it the “Rolls Royce” of travel systems. It was easy to steer, remained stable on grass and gravel thanks to its puncture-proof tyres and all-round suspension, and provided a calm, comfortable ride that helped her baby settle happily in both the carrycot and lie-flat seat (although the carrycot was the clear preference).

She also praised the practical, thoughtful details that make everyday use easier, from the generously sized shopping basket and adjustable handlebar to the mudguards and responsive suspension: “This pram is great on cobbled streets - any terrain really,” she says. Visually, it also made a strong first impression, with a more premium look and feel than her previous Joie Chrome travel system.

That said, the Cybex Talos S Lux isn’t without its drawbacks. The carrycot release proved fiddly enough for Ash to mention more than once, and the folding mechanism took time to master. Because the pushchair frame doesn’t stand upright when folded, it’s also prone to getting scratched when being loaded in and out of the car.

Overall, though, the Talos S Lux is an easy recommendation for parents looking for a single pushchair that can handle mixed routines and varied terrain without feeling cumbersome. Its compatibility with the Cybex Cot S Lux carrycot and infant car seats further adds to its flexibility from birth. Ash’s verdict? “I absolutely love this pram!”

How we tested the Cybex Talos S Lux

Ash tested the Cybex Talos S Lux for a month with her two children, a six-week-old newborn and a two-and-a-half-year-old toddler. During the main testing period, she used it every day, taking it on nursery-run style outings, walks, trips on buses and trains, and regular journeys in and out of the car. She also tested the Talos S Lux on a holiday to Butlin's.

Her newborn baby was the main passenger, but Ash also had the opportunity to try the seat with her toddler to see how it fared for different ages and stages.

Once testing was complete, she scored the Talos S Lux on eight different criteria: performance, quality and durability, ease of use, value for money, safety and stability, ease of folding and unfolding, comfort, and adjustability and storage.

Ash also had the opportunity to try the Cybex Talos S Lux out with extras including the Cybex Cot S Lux carrycot, rain covers for both the main seat unit and carrycot, the Newborn Nest insert and the Cybex Gold Footmuff. She bought the car seat adapters herself to test the travel system with the Cybex Aton B2 i-Size car seat.

How easy is the Cybex Talos S Lux to assemble?

The setup was pleasingly straightforward. Ash assembled the Talos S Lux on her own in around 10 minutes, without needing any tools. The process mainly involved unfolding the chassis, clicking the wheels into place and attaching the seat unit, all of which felt intuitive and clearly designed. Her take on the whole experience? “Easy peasy.”

The Cybex Talos S Lux is available in four colourways

How does it look?

Ash was initially unsure about the Stormy Blue colour. She says, “If I were to choose I would probably go for a more neutral colour like black or beige.” However, that hesitation quickly faded once she started using it day to day: “We’ve grown to love it! The quality and the overall performance definitely outweighs the colour preference for me.”

In terms of design, the Talos S Lux strikes a confident balance between practicality and polish. On first unboxing, Ash felt it was a clear upgrade from her previous travel system. The thicker fabrics stood out immediately, and the leather handlebar adds a more premium feel than many everyday pushchairs.

Cybex describes this latest version of the Cybex Talos S Lux as having a refreshed, more outdoorsy look, with a reshaped canopy and updated wheels.

The materials also proved practical in use. Ash found the fabrics breathable and quick to dry after light rain, although she noted this wasn’t often put to the test thanks to the effectiveness of the rain covers when used.

In terms of colourways, the Cybex Talos S Lux is available in Moss Green, Stormy Blue, Almond Beige and Moon Black. All options come with a taupe frame, except Moon Black, which is paired with a black frame.

How sturdy is the Cybex Talos S Lux?

Ash described the Talos S Lux as “very sturdy yet lightweight.” She tested it on hills and uneven ground and felt confident in its stability throughout. “The brake is fine on all hills so far and is easy to use,” she added.

The Cybex Talos S Lux boasts a one-pull five-point harness system on the seat unit. Ash found the harness secure in use for both her “tiny 8lb baby” and her toddler. The seat unit includes enhanced side protection for the upper body and hips.

How comfortable is the Cybex Talos S Lux?

Comfort is one of the Talos S Lux’s strongest areas. Ash’s newborn settled in it quickly. She says, “It’s so smooth that my baby didn’t realise she was moving at first so it took her a while to nod off to sleep! But it didn’t take her long to get used to travelling in luxury.” Her toddler was also well accommodated, with plenty of room to sit comfortably during rides.

That extra space is worth noting. Ash found the seat noticeably roomier than her previous pushchair, with enough space for her toddler to sit comfortably when he did use it, and plenty of room to grow.

Ash found the recline easy to use, with three positions that adjusted smoothly. Cybex also states that the seat can be set to an ergonomic lie-flat position from birth, and Ash felt the newborn insert (an added extra) and soft cot/shell (included in the box) made this a genuinely usable option in the early months.

That said, she generally preferred using the carrycot for her newborn, which she felt was the better and more comfortable choice for longer stretches. The carrycot and accompanying mattress are approved for overnight sleeping, meaning it can also double up as a travel cot when needed.

The leather handlebar was another standout feature. With four height positions and a soft grip, it’s designed to suit a range of users. Ash favoured the higher settings - even at 5’4” - saying, “The handle bar comes up really high. Much higher than my double buggy [Joie Evalite Duo] and previous pram [Joie Chrome], so it’s nice to steer.” She pointed out it would work well for “taller dads over 6 feet, no problem.” That adjustability is genuinely useful in shared use, allowing each person to push comfortably without stooping or overreaching.

How adaptable is the Cybex Talos S Lux for different ages?

The Talos S Lux is designed as a travel-system-ready pushchair, and that adaptability is a big part of its appeal. Cybex says the frame can be used with the seat unit, a carrycot and compatible infant car seats, making it suitable from birth through to toddlerhood.

In practice, Ash found most of these transitions straightforward. Both the seat unit and carrycot were simple to attach, with carrycot no adapters needed, which makes day-to-day setup quick and easy. Removing the carrycot was less smooth, however. She says, “The levers are in a really difficult spot to press at the same time to release the carrycot off the pram frame.”

She also paired the frame with the Cybex Aton B2 i-Size car seat and found the adapters simple to use, attaching and removing with “just one big button” - note that you'll need to buy car seat adapters separately if you're using the Talos S Lux with a baby car seat. Switching the seat between parent-facing and world-facing positions was equally as simple using the side handles.

What's it like to use day to day?

Ash found the Cybex Talos S Lux “super smooth” to push, handling kerbs and rougher ground with very little fuss. She was particularly impressed by the front- and rear-wheel suspension, noting, “The suspension is great when bumping up the kerb or on a dog walk with gravel under foot” and “I love the mudguards.”

The high handlebar also made it comfortable to steer, and she had no issues navigating tighter spaces like doorways or manoeuvring on buses and trains. Overall, it feels well suited to a mix of everyday errands, public transport and more uneven terrain.

Accessories also play a big role in how it performs day to day, although some aren’t included as standard. Ash tested the footmuff, newborn insert and rain covers for both the seat and carrycot as added extras. She was particularly enthusiastic about the rain covers, saying they fit “like a glove” and praising the ventilation holes and little access flap. She also rated the footmuff and found the newborn insert useful - especially because the head cushion can be adjusted as your baby grows.

The extendable XXL sun canopy, which is included, made a strong impression too, offering “great coverage” with UPF50+ protection.

Cybex also sells additional accessories separately, including (but not limited to) a 2-in-1 cup holder and summer seat liner, which allows you to tailor the pushchair to your needs over time.

The rain covers did not disappoint

How easy is it to fold and unfold?

Folding is a bit more mixed. Ash said unfolding the Cybex Talos S Lux is straightforward, but folding the frame can take time to master. “It’s by no means difficult,” she explained, “It just takes a few attempts to click it into the right spot using your thumb and the handle at the same time.”

She also notes that the Cybex Talos S Lux “doesn’t stand up on the wheels when folded which has resulted in a few scratches.” While that’s more of a practical annoyance than a dealbreaker, it’s worth bearing in mind - particularly if you’re regularly folding it down for car journeys or public transport. If you're using the Talos S Lux, with the carrycot, you'll also need to remove the carrycot from the frame to fold.

On the plus side, Ash found the Talos S Lux relatively lightweight for its size and manageable to lift in and out of the boot. It folds down to a fairly standard size, with folded dimensions of 53 x 59 x 78cm.

What’s the storage basket like?

Ash found the 10kg storage basket spacious with “plenty of room to fit everything I need for a full day out for my two children.” The design also helps here - it’s not positioned too close to the seat or carrycot, making it easier to load bulkier items.

She also liked the small pocket in the carrycot for essentials like keys or a phone, although there’s no equivalent pocket on the main seat unit itself.

The storage basket is generously sized and easy to access

How easy is it to clean?

Ash found the Cybex Talos S Lux very easy to keep clean. The seat fabric is breathable and quick to dry, and she described it as “super easy to take off” and put back on after washing. Both the regular seat cover and carrycot cover are machine-washable, which makes everyday maintenance simple.

Is the Cybex Talos S Lux good value for money?

Ash felt the Talos S Lux was a noticeable step up from her previous Joie Chrome travel system, describing it as “MUCH better quality” without feeling dramatically more expensive. That comparison is telling, as Joie typically sits in the mid-range, while the Talos S Lux delivers a more premium feel without pushing into the highest price bracket.

In terms of value, the Talos S Lux strikes a solid balance. You’re getting a robust frame, genuinely smooth suspension and thoughtful features that make everyday use easier. What’s included in the price feels purposeful - the seat unit, bumper bar, sun canopy and large basket all contribute to day-to-day usability. However, some extras you might expect, like the carrycot, rain cover and car seat adapters, are sold separately, which is worth factoring into the overall cost.

More broadly, it positions itself as a practical all-rounder rather than a stripped-back budget option or a design-led luxury buy. The focus is on performance and usability, particularly if you need something that can handle mixed terrain and regular use without feeling overly bulky.

If your needs are fairly simple - mainly flat pavements and short trips - a lighter, more basic stroller may be enough. But for parents who want one travel system that can handle mixed terrain, regular use and the demands of a newborn-first setup, the Talos S Lux still feels like money well spent, even if you’ll need to budget for a few extras.
