Over the past month, my family and I have used the Cuisinart Tri Zone Air Fryer & Oven almost daily, and it's quickly become the most-used appliance in my kitchen. It looks sleek and modern, fitting neatly into our minimalist space, and it feels solidly built - the mix of high-quality metals and plastics gives it a premium finish and the impression it’s made to last.

Performance-wise, it includes all the cooking modes you’d expect from one of the best air fryers - air fry, grill, bake, dehydrate and re-crisp. Its generous 13.6-litre capacity is split across three zones (two 4.3-litre baskets and a 5-litre tray), so it’s far more flexible than your average dual-drawer air fryer but still has that familiar basket-style design we know and love here at MNHQ. This separate-zone setup is also ideal in my household of one vegetarian and two meat eaters - it’s practical to keep one drawer for veg and the other for meat, which makes mealtimes so much simpler.

The lower tray acts as a mini oven, working slightly differently to the two air fryer drawers up top, with three set functions - pizza, toast and manual. We’ve found it especially handy for heating up Crosta Mollica pizzas; both the smaller pizzettas (which our son loves) and the larger ones fit perfectly. The pizza setting does a decent job, though it doesn’t quite crisp the base as well as my full-sized Neff oven - but for the speed and convenience, it’s good enough, in my opinion.

Our biggest gripe is the auto-pause feature, which stops cooking in all three zones whenever you pull out a drawer. But that small irritation aside, it's a practical, versatile and genuinely time-saving addition to our daily lives.

How we tested

MNHQ tester Sajana Neil put the Cuisinart Tri Zone Air Fryer & Oven through its paces in her family kitchen over the course of a month, cooking everything from homemade chips and Korean fried chicken to pizzas, vegetables and frozen favourites. Testing it as part of her three-person household’s daily routine, she explored all three cooking zones to see how it handled a mix of meals for everyone.

Sajana then shared her experience with Mumsnet’s kitchen editor, Natasha Gregson, answering a comprehensive list of questions about the Tri Zone's performance.

The Cuisinart was then scored against MNHQ’s core home review criteria - performance, quality and durability, ease of use, and value for money - each marked out of 15. Sajana also rated it out of 10 for product-specific measures, including cooking results, cooking functions and features, capacity and size, and ease of cleaning. These results were then combined to give an overall score out of 100.

Cooking in the Cuisinart Tri Zone Air Fryer & Oven: how easy is it to use?

Cuisinart Tri Zone Air Fryer & Oven control panel

How easy was the Cuisinart Tri Zone to get started the first time you used it?

Set-up was straightforward and the controls were all clear and intuitive. The unit itself slotted together easily, so we were up and running in no time.

How do you find using the controls and settings?

All the controls sit on a touchscreen, and the labels and buttons are really clear and easy to understand. Each zone has its own button, so you can activate them independently, set the temperature and time, then hit the play button to start cooking - it’s as simple as that.

The only small frustration is that the controls reset after every use. So if, like me, you tend to air fry most things at around 180°C, you’ll need to lower it from the default 200°C each time and reset the timer too.

What has the noise level been like during use?

It gives off an audible hum while it’s running, which lingers for a couple of minutes after cooking finishes. It’s not as quiet as my old air fryer, but I’ve gotten used to it.

Is there anything else about operating the Tri Zone that you’d like to mention?

The handles stay cool to the touch, which makes it safe and easy to check on food mid-cook. It’s also much easier to see what’s going on inside compared to my old air fryer, thanks to the viewing windows - a small but really handy detail.

On the downside, the auto-pause feature - which stops all cooking when you open any of the drawers - can slow you down a bit. In my opinion, it’s more of a hindrance than a help when you’re trying to multitask in the kitchen.

Cuisinart Tri Zone 13.6L Air Fryer & Oven results

How has the Tri Zone performed when cooking different foods?

Overall, performance has been excellent. It heats up quickly and cooks evenly, even when the drawers are three-quarters full. One standout test was a Korean fried chicken recipe made specifically for air frying. I started with raw chicken, seasoned it overnight in the fridge, patted the skin dry, gave it a light coating of flour, and cooked it until it turned a beautiful golden brown. The skin came out so crisp that I could run a knife across it and hear a satisfying scrape. It had all the crunch and texture of deep-fried chicken, just without the oil or mess. Best of all, it cooked in about two-thirds of the time it would take in our conventional oven.

How well does the Tri Zone cook homemade chips?

I used the Tri Zone to crisp up homemade chips for testing. Firstly, I soaked them in salt water before boiling them slightly. Then I put them in the air fryer for 30 minutes at 190°C and the result was perfectly crisp chips that were crunchy outside and fluffy on the inside.

Cuisinart Tri Zone Air Fryer: design and style

What are your impressions of the Tri Zone's style and build quality?

It’s a well-built, premium-feeling appliance. The stainless steel finish looks great in our modern kitchen, and it feels sturdy and solidly made. The touchscreen controls are logical and well laid out, and the viewing windows with interior lights are really useful - especially if you don’t want to keep interrupting the cooking process.

How practical is the 13.6-litre capacity for your household?

The size is generous, but that’s to be expected from an air fryer as large as this one. Its three independent cooking zones - two drawers and a central oven - make it incredibly versatile for cooking multiple dishes at once. It’s easily big enough to feed our family of three.

Cuisinart Tri Zone Air Fryer & Oven: cleaning and maintenance

How easy have you found the Tri Zone easy to clean inside and out?

The air fryer drawers have a practical square shape, and the lower drawer includes a small removable baking tray, making it very easy to disassemble and clean. All the drawers are dishwasher-safe, so once they’ve cooled down at the end of the evening, I just pop them straight in.

Price: is the Cuisinart Tri Zone 13.6L Air Fryer & Oven worth it?

How do you feel about the Tri Zone's value for money after using it?

Given its quality, versatility and size, I’d say it’s absolutely worth the price. It’s not the cheapest air fryer out there, but it’s certainly one of the most capable. It cooks beautifully, looks great on the counter and has truly made my life easier.

Do you see the Tri Zone as replacement for your oven, or more of an additional appliance?

I’d say it’s replaced our conventional oven for most meals - though that’s true of many air fryers, as they cook faster and use less electricity, making them the obvious choice day to day. The only real limitation is size, like when cooking a full roast chicken or anything larger that won’t fit. That said, this model strikes the right balance of practicality for our family. The three drawers are especially useful, and we now use our traditional oven even less than we did with our previous smaller air fryer.
